  1. It does seem that your truck is not standard. Otherwise there is no real reason to put in a boost gauge. The standard turbo on your Isuzu gives a max boost of about 14 psi when pushed. You would probably reach more than that with a different turbo. Take a look at your turbo, I assume you know where it is, and then compare it to one on another car similar to yours. You can also then compare the engine bays (take pictures) and see if there are differencies anywhere.

The switch #7 could be an on/off to regulate if you want to run your engine with all the power available or if you prefer (f.i. if you take the car to Isuzu for service) to run it in more or less standard power. Also if you have a wife or gf who drives it, you may not want them to accidently use too much power.

A simple test for switch #7: Drive at around 80kph with the switch in Off position and feed the throttle down to the floor (no kickdown)and keep an eye on the boost gauge and how high it goes. Then slow down, turn #7 to ON and do the same again.

Does the boost gauge go higher and do you feel the car's acceleration is stronger and more powerful? If it is, then you have the answer to the use of switch #7. If there is no difference either way, I have no solution to write here.

Thanks for the advice. You were somewhat correct, the #4 switch disables the piggyback chip. Turning it off eliminates the black smoke and and definitely reduces power. I still don't know what #7 does after playing around with it. Well, I guess I know what all but that last switch does. Thanks everyone for your help.

    Cheers

  2. I would buy from here in Thailand. You can get the updated v11.0 on various websites. Also, they are releasing v11.1 within this week, so you might want to wait, but I am sure it will not be a major update. BTW, I am using a very old Garmin Nuvi 270 that I bought in the US at least 5 or 6 years ago with Thailand map v8.0 and I seldom have had problems in the last couple of years. I just updated tonight to v11.0 and will be testing it out tomorrow. Even so, the old version worked fine for me. Check your settings also, do you have Avoidances on (tollway, u-turns, etc.)? This does definitely make a difference on your route. When I use it on my motorcycle, I turn avoidances on to avoid driving illegally on the tollways, but turn them off in the truck. I also set mine to fastest route, and that makes a difference also as opposed to other routes. The only real problem I have had is that it does not know when I am driving on the elevated portion of the road or the main road underneath. But it sorts itself out eventually.

I would like to upgrade to a new model with intersection views and lane assist, but mine works so well know I can't justify it unless I gift my old one to my brother. He definitely needs it.

  3. Sound's like this one has been chipped. If it's been done well you wont find the Chip without a search. Have had mine done and If you lift the Hood/Bonnet you will see nothing. You have to take the glove box out and know what you are looking for. Go have a real look. If you cant find it contact the last owner. Interesting to know the outcome.

I thought the chip would be in the engine bay connected to the commonrail. Can you give me some detail on what to look for? I cannot contact the last owner, I picked it up used from a second hand dealer, and there was only the previous owner's name. The dealer did not want to give me his contact information when I asked about the installed equipment in the truck.

  4. http://www.mrtrally....ce/whytimer.htm turbo timer explained.

3RD START MODE provides non-slip starting on slippery roads

i suspect the little power switch may be a bed light, but not sure.

Nocturn, thank you so much. Actually, you gave me relief. Today, driving the truck I wanted to see what it had and drove quite fast on the motorway. When I turned off the truck, it kept running! i was shocked, because I had the key out. I thought something was wrong, but your link for the Turbo Timer explained it all. Thank you.

  5. Does your Thai friend have a phone capable of email? I send emails from Thailand to US based mobiles as an SMS from my email. When the person in the US replies, it comes to my email on my iPhone. When I reply, it again goes to them as an SMS. All major phone services in the US have the ability to receive SMS messages from emails. Example, if your Verizon number is 810-515-5555 and your Thai friends email is [email protected], then your Thai friend sends an email to [email protected] from [email protected], and your replies go to [email protected]

The only costs are the data and SMS plans. So if you already have these plans, then messages are essentially free. It is not a perfect solution, but it works great for me. You both receive the messages on your phone. It also works if this person sends an email to you from their phone to your computer obviously. Data plans are cheap, 599 baht a month from True.

  6. So, I just picked up a second hand 2007 D-Max LS 3.0 Cab 4 from a dealer here in Bangkok. The dealer had no clue as to what any ofthe installed aftermarket accessories were except the Locktech PedalLock. This is my first diesel vehicle I have owned, and my first vehicle in Thailand that wasn't a plain company supplied vehicle. This truck did not come with any kind of owner's manual. Can I pick up a manual from the Isuzu dealership? Is there a repair manual for it in English, such as a Haynes or Chilton? I have no idea what the maintenance schedule is, what fluids to use, etc. Also, I briefly looked to see if the engine has been chipped, but I couldn't see any obvious added wiring and I didn't take off the engine cover. I looked because it seems to produce a lot of black smoke on acceleration but no Check Engine lights, and also it seems to have quite a bit more torque and acceleration than my company supplied 3.0 Toyota Vigo 4 door I drove a couple of years back.

Can someone please enlighten me as to what the purpose of some of these switches and gauges are? I know that I can take this into a shop that deals in vehicle customizations and ask, but I just got this truck today and thought I would ask here first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Refer to the photos for these:

    1. Sits next to the gear selector. This looks like a gear lock, such as for towing. I had one on my Chevy Tahoe in the US, and it keeps the truck out of overdrive when towing a heavy load. Is this correct? This one looks factory installed.

    2. This is a digital gauge, but it hasn't come on yet. There doesn't seem to be a switch to turn it on. It has L m R on it, I assume Left Middle Right? What is this for?

    3. Ok, this is the Racetech PSI gauge for the turbo charger. I understand what it does, but why is this important to me?

    4. These two switches sit to the lower left of the steering column. The lower box is a simple On/Off switch with a green LED next to it. I have not touched this, and the LED is always a constant green.

    5. This saysTurbo Timer on it. It is usually a 0 when driving, but I have seen it go to a 1 under heavy acceleration. I also have not changed this switch position.

    6. This is the Locktech Pedal Lock. It is made in Thailand, and it disables the starter when engaged. It has a pedal visible in the photo, similar to the brake pedal. I am assuming I depress this and it locks the vehicle down, then I use the supplied key to unlock the wheels and disable the starter kill. Does it lock all four wheels? Can it be easily removed, because it seems to get in the way of some of my shoes while I drive.

    7. This actually looks factory installed also, but I have changed the position while driving and it seems to have done nothing. I thought it might be for the foglights, but it didn't switch them on or off. The fog lights are activated on the factory switch on the Turn Signal Indicator stalk on the steering column along with the headlights.

I used to be such a gear head, and now feel quite silly not knowing what these things are, but otherwise I love the truck. If anyone wants to physically inspect the vehicle with me, then the beers are on me.

    Cheers

    John

  7. Jebhead, my family is from Kanchanaburi, so I know it well. Here are some tips:

    1. Don't stay overnight on the River. The party boats start from 5AM until midnight, and there are usually 2 or 3 every 5 minutes or so. Their music is so loud it will rattle your windows. I couldn't sleep at all.

    2. Don't miss the Erawan Falls, it is spectacular, but getting up all 7 levels is a bit of a hike. Be prepared for a 1-2 hour hike up to the top, and remember they will ask all at the top to head back down by 4pm. Take some water and/or snacks, there are no vendors on the way up, but there are no trash receptacles, so please take your trash back with you.

    3. There is a great dam also, never a tourist there at the lake, but not much to do if you don't like just the view.

    4. There are some nice caves not on any map our guide. Ask some locals, and they will be happy to give directions.

    5. Not much English spoken outside of Muang Kanchanaburi, so prepare for that.

The rest you can pick up from guide books, websites, etc.

Have a great time. Thais love going to Kanchanaburi, but not necessarily to the bridge. There are many other things to do.

  8. I did laugh a little at this post, sorry OP, not being an ass, but not once but twice. Ok, so you don't need to be able to read Thai. All tollways are marked with bright blue signs with a picture of a two lane road on it. Simple as that. Don't go up there! Also, most but not all have signs showing a motorbike circled and crossed out. Don't go up there either! To go between Bangkok and Pattaya, stay on the Bang Na Trat motorway, but on the ground level. Don't go up the ramp! The ramps all have big blue signs for the tollway. You really aren't supposed to be on the motorway either, you should be on the frontage road, but when I drive it, I stay on the motorway. Most big bikes do also that I see.

Ok, so if you find yourself at a toll booth, why not either try to get through or just turn around? Sounds bad, but I see it so many times when I am in my car. BTW, 2000 is high, but you were clearly wrong both times. There is no such thing as prison time for that offence, he was just trying to scare you.

This is the sign that you avoid. Same as in the UK, I believe.

  9. Great price OP. I did a quick comparison on a custom PC build site in the US and I came up with the following (notice no external drives):

    GMT-QX / 100

    Intel 130W TDP Core i7-950 (3.06 GHz) 4-Core $428.00 x1 $428.00

    GPC-715 1U Socket-1366 Active Heatsink $68.00 x1 $68.00

ASUS Rampage III Extreme Intel X58 ATX $548.00 x1 $548.00

    Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G DDR3-1333 4GB CL9 $128.00 x4 $512.00

    WD Caviar Black 500 GB $88.00 x1 $88.00

    WD Caviar Black 1 TB $128.00 x3 $384.00

    LG GT10N SATA Slim 8X DVD+/-W / 8X DVD+RW $92.00 x1 $92.00

    EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1-GB $348.00 x1 $348.00

    Zalman ZM-RS6F Surround Sound Headphones Retail $69.00 x1 $69.00

    Quiet 8x 120mm+ Fans EATX Cooler Master ATCS 840 $308.00 x1 $308.00

    Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W 90% Efficiency PSU $398.00 x1 $398.00

    Samsung P2570HD Black 24.6" Widescreen LCD Display $438.00 x1 $438.00

Logitech Black USB Wireless Desktop MK300 Keyboard and Mouse Retail $80.00 x1 $80.00

Mozilla Firefox Browser and Thunderbird Email (Free With Any OS) $0.00 x1 $0.00

1 Year Parts and Labor Standard Warranty Included Free $0.00 x1 $0.00

Self-Assembly Of System (Install Performed By You) $0.00 x1 $0.00

    Total: $3,761.00

Also, I made some substitutions to approximate the price of what you chose, but I think they may be poor choices. Your speakers I couldn't find, so I chose a headphone with a middle of the road price. Also, there wasn't an option for 2 20' monitors, so I chose a 24' to approximate the price of 2 LCD's. So add in the price of 2 WD external drives at say $65 each, you get an approximate total of $3891 USD. At current exchange rates, that would be 117,635 THB. So you got a savings of approximately 33,635 THB. Did your 84,000 include the additional 8GB of RAM?

Regardless, a great PC for a good price. Good job.

  10. You should call the DLT. They should be able to help. My insurance agent (of all people!) helped me. Long and short, you can keep the plate. He applies for a new one and gets a red plate until his arrives. In Thailand, plates are owned by the owner and go with the owner, not the car. You keep the plate and then register it to a new car later. I don't know all the details, but a phone call to DLT will clear it up.

Department of Transport 1032 Phaholyothin Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900 Telephone Number (center) 0-2271-8888.

  11. I found myself on a day trip to Bangkok so stopped by the True office in Fortune Tower to initiate "MNP" to transfer my DTAC prepaid account to a True 3G postpaid account for use with my iPhone4. It was pretty straightforward as discussed above, but I did encounter a few speed hiccups:

The first hiccup was the friendly "helpful" staff at the DTAC shop saying that my number was not registered, and I had to wait seven days before going to the True shop. I had owned that DTAC phone number for six years, and the reason for my visit to the DTAC shop was simply to update my passport number so that when True contacted them, the passport numbers would match. After that encounter with DTAC, the True sales person actually called DTAC customer service and verified that my number was, in fact, registered.

The second hiccup was accessing True WiFi Hotspots. True needs to enter the MAC address for your device (iPhone or iPad, probably, in most cases) into their system. Otherwise you will be presented with a username/password screen and you will not have (and don't need) a username or password.

There was a short gap in service: my DTAC account was deactivated shortly after midnight, but my True account was not active until about 1000am.

I had the same issue with the Wifi hotspots. They can add your MAC address to the system my just calling True. They can pull your MAC from their system.

Now, further impressions, True EDGE is horrible compared to AIS EDGE. I never had a problem anywhere in Thailand with AIS EDGE, but even in Bangkok, if I disable 3G to save battery, EDGE is extremely slow.

  12. Maybe these messages are built into your phone or sim? maybe timed to receive messages at certain intervals. when i put my iPhone in airplane mode, it is definitely not sending or receiving. I tried to connect with an Apply program to locate, send messages to, and erase my phone in the case that it is stolen. in airplane mode, it couldn't locate it, and messages didn't go through. as soon as i switched it out of airplane mode, the messages arrived and it located my phone.

  13. Thank you all for the input! I will have to think about this a bit more. Maybe a small netbook is a good idea...

I have brought over 3 desktops so far, with LCD monitors also, over the last 2 years. Never a problem. No questions from customs, and a couple of the bags were opened and inspected. I never disassembled anything. I just packed clothes all around and all was fine.

  14. This is Thailand, as far as I'm aware we don't have 3G yet. Only a few hotspots littered around Bangkok city centre afaik. Pleae correct me if I'm wrong.

This is wrong. 3G has been here for quite some time. I have True 3G on my iPhone. I switched from AIS. Edge was too slow. I also used the same phone number. I get consistent 3G all throughout Bangkok and on the outskirts down nearly to Chonburi. It is also cheaper than AIS.

  15. For cleaning or for agriculture? Since you're in BKK would assume cleaning but thought I'd ask.

Oops. Good point Buckaroo. I guess I should have asked that.

I assumed you meant a powered sprayer for cleaning. Do you mean one of those hand-pumped plastic reservoir sprayers filled with a solution of insecticide or fertilizer? I used to use one to spray insecticide on my cherry trees and other fruit bearing plants.

  16. You can try Tenant also, but I couldn't find anyone there who speaks English if that is important for you. We use them also, but their prices are higher, although they sometimes have things that Nilfisk doesn't. Between the 2 you should find what you need. I can't remember where Tenant offices were, but in Bangkok as well.
