  1. I just got back from Savannakhet (non-o multiple) yesterday they were issuing tourist visa's as usual but I'm not sure on how many entries. The place was mobbed by laotions with a queue right down the street. They also closed the doors on time stopping a lot of people applying. I got there about 8.15 and was number 21 in the queue, the pick up the next day was a bit of a free for all, the rain didn't help.

I would suspect it's going to get worse before it gets better, from what I saw at the bridge - the bus was a fight to get on I would stay at the casino. It is more expensive but they stuttle you around, across the bridge and I also believe will take you to the consulate.

What papers did you take with you can you give me a list of what thy wanted

    Cheers buddy

Copy of wife's ID card signed and dated by her

Copy of wife's house book (tabien baan) signed and dated by her

I don't have the original marriage paper (wife lost it) so went to the local amphur and got a print out, which I believe is what is been referred to in the other post as a KR2, anyway easy to get from any amphur. A copy of that plus the original.

Copy of my passport main page

    Application form.

He did ask for copies of my childrens birth certicates which I also had.

    2 Photos

That was it, he took about a minute to look at everything asked for 5k and gave me a ticket to come back the next day for collection.

    Good luck

  3. Google chiang mai gourmet. Probably the best bacon and sausages in town.

It's really down to personal taste, I really like Chiang Mai Gourmet's bacon especially his American streaky, plenty of smokey flavour and his burgers are the best I've had, my kids love them. I haven't tried his sausages, the frozen pork sausages from Makro are good a little bit heavy on the pepper but I like them, the bacon is all streaky and not heavily smoked, it's good. They also have some Canadian back bacon in the freezer which looks good although I've not tried it.

SausageKing's products are okay but best to buy direct from him, as I don't live across that side of town I generally don't bother with them.

  4. We have a small fresh herbal juice business and also stock a few other healthy items. I have been constantly looking for a local media to advertise in that targets the permanent CM expat market (not tourists) and gets good traffic. I am willing to pay for decent exposure. Other than advertising here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/28-chiang-mai-forum/ (which I am considering, great traffic, but for some reason the banner ads do not show up on my computer???, how many others cannot view them?) I cannot find an appealing local media outlet. Perhaps www.chiangmainews.com but the tiny online banner ads do not allow any description whatsoever. I want to be able to mention at least 4-5 items and a link to our website.

Don't know if this helps but just my 2 cents from a frustrated potential small business advertiser looking for a popular media outlet. I do not know how typical our situation is but my guess is there are hundreds of small area businesses like ours looking for better exposure that does not "break the bank".

Have you considered Facebook advertising, with the right targeting it can be very cost effective. Also with the addition of a small amount of javascript on your site you can re-target people i.e. just display an ad to people who have already visited your site. With the correct setup you can also track conversions.

Expats living in Chiang Mai would be relatively easy to target, "lives in Chiang", members of CM related groups, gender, age and some behaviour can also be targeted.

To do it cheaply just target people you visit your site.

  5. I just tried that place and thought it was good, considering it's close to home. I had a club world which is basically 3 types of meat, cheese and salad, I chose the wheat bread which to be honest wasn't that great will have white next time. Got 2 BLT's for my two children and they really enjoyed it. It's open late which might be useful and I also got two vouchers which will give me a free drink and chips (crisps) next time.

    Will go again.

  6. How about the hour requirements for schools in Chiang Mai?

And has anyone had immigration "testing" you on the language or checking on the school for your attendance?

It's currently 4 hours (2x2 hours) a week and as yet immigration have not checked my school although the school have taken many pictures. I have done my first extension without any testing, not sure about the next one. I talked with my teacher yesterday and she said not to worry as my Thai already passes any level of testing that has been used so far. I understand there is a minimum attendance rate although not sure what that is, I'm currently 100% and enjoy every lesson.

  7. I have 2 kids and recently bought 2 lenova 7" A3300 tablets and I am impressed. One was 3500 and the other on special from Lazada for 2500. I did a fair amount of research because although they are cheap I don't like buying crap. The Lenova is the only one with Dolby speakers on the front, has a slot for micro SD and sim card should you need it. Kept my two quiet for the whole school holidays. Android Ice Cream Sarny I think.

I see Lazada have it at 4990 at the moment, so you need to shop around. The one I got for 3500 was the best deal because it came with a folio case and screen protector, bought from IT City in Chiang Mai.

950 baht ! Wow! you got screwed. It is either 500 baht or $10 American dollars. When foreigners get over charged and or don,t know any better, as with hotels , taxis, massage shops . Then the next guy that comes along they figure they can demand the same. I have to visit Ranong in a few months and hopefully won,t get screwed because you either did not know any better or refused to stand your ground. In the twenty plus years i have lived here have yet to pay in baht. I hide all my baht and tell them to take the $10 or nothing. Works every time. Better learn to play the game.

You should learn to get your facts right before posting such rubbish

The $10 is the visa fee to enter Burma, this does not include the ferry fare.

When you go in a few months time let us know if you manage to get to and from Burma buy boat for free, I can pretty much bet the answer will be no.

The longtails are cheaper than the Catamaran the OP travelled on however even a longtail is going to cost you 2-300 Baht return

Indeed the Andaman Club is a civilized option with immigration on site, a nice big safe boat and if you wish a reasonable restaurant in the hotel at the other side.
