  1. If the Moderators dont keep a close eye on this thread i can see assassination attempt on ThaiVisa in the not to distant future.

They'd better hurry, the nicotine will beat them to it. :o By the way, we give out all of our plastic bags and live at ground level.

    Here's the score:

Drug related executions: 2000 or so.

    Southern lawyers: 1

    PM: 0

Vegas bookies would say the odds are pro-life for him.

Anyway, no arrests have been made or names revealed. Pure spin that I'm sure can be matched to outdated threads on many Thai forums.

  2. I've switched to Firefox when I read about others praising it on here some months ago. I use it 95% of the time now. I only go back to IE to understand my messy bookmarks sometimes. Tab browsing is simply great.

  3. Three soi dogs no one owns rule on our street . So far, they've killed, 1 prized rooster, about 4 of the neighbour's cats, gutted one expensive dog and broke it's back and left him there squirming and howling. Many more small dogs have also been killed. One motorcycle has flipped in front of our house one evening and the injured driver seemed to think they were ours. ANother person has come brandishing a bamboo spike in front of our house because one bit him. They run after cars and motorcycles constantly. There's a kids park in front of our street, mauling waiting to happen. They steal and chew everyone's shoes and doormats. They come to sleep in our carpark and infest our dog (always tied up and clean) and our place with hundreds of ticks. Another neighbour came over tonight, angry that his daughter's new cat has been killed, again. For months, the village office has been told about this, nothing done. Police has been called nothing done. The temples already have more than their share of dogs stupid owners were too irresponsible to have spayed/neutered or take care of, an endless cycle.

I've been up all night cooking prime meat and greasy fried eggs for them, sprinkling and mixing rat poison on their last meal. I'lll remove the bowls from the park at dawn, once they're done eating so that no kids or other dogs get poisoned.

  4. Maybe maintaining the existing paved roads should be the priority. A road here that is about 2 kilometers long, leads to the Amata industrial Park, used by tens of thousands of workers, twice daily, is a total mess as one part is managed by the tambon, the other by the province and another part by who knows... It's a total mess, people are flipping off bikes and motorcycles right and left, broken jaws, arms and legs aren't too useful for the factories and workers families.

New roads will only end up destroyed by the overweight trucks and buses in no time only to receive the same treatment as above.

    Smells like another election promise.

  5. That's the first thing I ate when I went back to visit my relatives. Walked out of the airport and drove to straight to my favorite deli for a giant sized Montreal smoked meat sandwich on rye, mustard and pickle on the side.

I remember someone mentioning previously a deli would open in Pattaya.

    Very cruel!! :D

There should also be a large order of fries/chips/french fries next to that. :o

  6. For those of you that are in Bangkok, have you noticed a subtle change in some of the campaign posters that started going up about 10 days ago? Some of the ones with the number 2 had a small cameo of Thaksin in the upper right corner. In face I remembered where a few were because I walked past them daily. Now they have been replaced with ones without Thaksin on them, and the ones with Thaksin have been moved or removed. I suspect that’s a significant read of happenings behind the scene in that guilt by association may be occurring. They more than likely were printed some time ago.

I noticed the same thing, but it seems to be getting more extreme. In one district, the TRT candidate doesn't even display the party's logo on his campaign posters - only the party's name is displayed in small text on the bottom of his posters. On some of his posters, there's no mention of the party's name at all! Seems like as far as Bangkok is concerned, Thaksin is more a liability than an asset for

    TRT.

Tricky. I guess if you can't mess with the ballot boxes or their content next time around you 've got to come up with more of these dishonest tactics in order to win votes desperately by fooling voters. Making it hard for voters to know which party a candidate is from should be illegal.

  7. Us debating things here in our own secure little internet world is one thing, but venturing out there into the real Thai world of politics is full of danger for an expat. Admins paranoia about subjects that can be posted here is not totally unfounded since the authorities sometimes monitor these types of boards.

I hope John Krukowski is not your real name.

Well it was only a suggestion and not a request and I would suspect they were already on the case.

I have to agree with Ando on this John. Our AOFT site, and probably this one as well, is regularly monitored by the Thai government. A foreigner talking on a forum is one thing but that same foreigner actively involving himself, not just you, in Thai politics especially now could bring some retribution if seen as meddling. It's not like we, I'll include myself, unlike some others here, are not hard to find as we have relevant information posted on our websites and elsewhere. In your case a quick heated call to the College, or the body that licenses your profession, by some government bureaucrat could lead to a licensing review or worse a revocation, something no one would like to see.

The Freedom of Information Act has 9 exemptions and 3 exclusions. They are complex and not a fun read....but...does anyone really think that the FOIA would force the gov't to divulge the contents of diplomatic correspondence? It is laughable to think that it would...in my (hahahaha) opinion....does anyone think that the Thai gov't is going to adopt a law that forces the PM to divulge the contents of diplomatic correspondence?...or is it just idle speculation to consider that possibility?

Could happen, if diplomatic correspondence is used for personal gain in let's say, FTA accords and distorting facts about political crisis. Transparency is such a hip word with him these days, why be afraid to go all the way?

  8. I've unscrewed the air cylinder on our Fujika pump and the water that leaked out of it was rusty with small particles of corroded metal. I doubt these small models have a bladder, maybe a diaphragm, if so it's not very airtight anymore.

  9. I doubt any US or Euro legal download will let you download movies from Thailand anyway

They normally reverse-check your IP address is and if it is outside their legal area they will say you are not allowed to download it

Even game companies are doing this now - I cannot purchase any games on Steam because of this stupid rule.

In doing so, they're sending us to Panthip or any local shop that sells copies. :o

  10. Here's another fine example :o

    GLO faces probe into spending

State auditor to look at possible tax evasion

    AMPA SANTIMETANEDOL

The state auditor has stepped in to investigate the Government Lottery Office's (GLO) spending and possible tax evasion that may have cost the state around 10 billion baht over the past three years.

A source at the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) said the GLO has not paid a single baht in tax since the launch of two- and three-digit lottery on Aug 16, 2003.

The GLO is believed to have raked in about 82 billion baht from the two- and three-digit lottery over 58 draws of the national lottery _ from the first draw to Dec 15 last year.

The source said the proceeds from the two- and three-digit lottery that the cabinet snatched from underground bookmakers are considered taxable under the Gambling Act. This is because the sale of the lottery tickets is endorsed by a cabinet resolution, not by the Lottery Act, said the source.

Article 16 of the Gambling Act states that the proceeds are subject to no more than 10% tax before expenses.

The source said that the probe into last year's lottery sales showed that from the first issuance to Dec 15 last year the GLO earned 82 billion baht.

Of the total earnings, the GLO was expected to pay a 410 million baht minimum up to an 820 million baht maximum in gambling tax and 5.74 billion baht in VAT, none of which was actually forked out.
