  1. the dance prohibition is a big drag as I had intended to visit dave's club my next visit to Pattaya...I had anticipated watching with delight the suggestive wiggling of scantily clad young wimmin while abusing myself under the table...

    heh, heh... :D

Ah that explains it! Last time I was there I thought I kept hearing a knock at the door. :o

  2. The aircon still gets turned off between 12:00- 1:00 pm. at the licence bureau, even though the room is packed full of people and workers. I happened to be walking in when a wave of people rushed out, and we had to back up and get away from the doors. I doubt this measure saves any energy at all as the aircon will kick back in later on and work non-stop.

I had never experienced this before: taking a break on a Bangkok sidewalk, getting a cool refreshing breeze from the cold air coming from building entrances. :D Now that's wasted energy.

I still see people turning off refrigerators when closing up and plugging them back in the next morning. They may want to educate people on that. The fridge will work harder the next morning than it would have if it had been plugged in all night.

One thing I've been thinking about lately is the amount of fuel wasted by people driving around with pick-up trucks, burning huge amounts of fuel to sell vegetables, fish and other products. This , in my opinion, is a big contributor to wasting energy. They obviously cover the cost of fuel but only to make minimal profits.

Television seems to be the way to educate people around these parts but I haven't seen any ad campaigns so fa,r giving people tips on saving energy. If they did spend on some advertisement, they would surely come up with better numbers than shown above.

Please. pleaaaase get rid of that stupid law forbidding the purchase of fuel at gas stations past 10 pm. :o

  3. People get confused between millipede and centipede. The millipede is the rounded worm-like one that curls up when it senses danger. I remember reading that some millipedes ooze a toxic substance, it may be hazardous to handle them.

Here's a centipede caught at the in-laws house.

    gallery_6606_95_67475.jpg

I've seen a video where lemurs were sitting in a circle passing a millipede around, each taking a bite of on it and getting high, suddenly staring, shoulders dropping and drooling excessively. :o

  4. I posted a summary of the original Thai Rath article but it was bumped to the news section. If I remember correctly, the father had 3 or 4 bodyguards and was involved in an unspecified business which involved his travelling out of the country most of the time. One of the men was recognized as a guard, and at least one of the criminals spoke English and German. The police suspected that it was not so much a robbery but connected to a dispute with the father, and mentioned that the maid had not been paid for several months. That doesn't make the crime any less horrible. Very likely they will be apprehended though.

Mmm, raping a 13 year old girl for not paying the maid? Sounds like smearing to me in order to point fingers at the family.

  5. We just put in an order for 4 Nissan Frontier King Cab 2WD along with our business partner ( 1 for us 3 for him). He's been on it for months and concluded this is the model best suited for our needs.

    Type : 2.5 litre, DOHC, 16-valve, 4-Cylinder, Turbo Intercoole

Fuel system : ECCS, electric fuel injection control (VE type)

Combustion System: M-Fire DID (Direct Injection Diesel)

Gross vehicle weight (kg.) : 2570

I' ll post in a few weeks about the fuel consumption. The Nissan website does not mention it (or I missed it )but the Nissan catalog I have here claims 33.1 kms per litre.

  6. why would anyone elect to stand in the hot sun to catch mushy, boney and tasteless freshwater fish when one could simply purchase a nice piece of salmon or tuna down Foodland and grill it in A/C comfort and etc, etc...

'goin' fishin' ' was always a euphanism for getting pissed...

this thread belongs in the 'I drink to much forum'...

I've also stood in rain, sleet, snow when fishing, I dunno. Started when I was 5, on my own, I'd escape from the cottage at 6 a.m. put on my life jacket, hop in the canoe. My best experiences were up in Canada's great north, not a soul around.

By the way, I don't like fish or seafood (except for shrimp). I always release the catch or give it away to neghtbours.

  7. Most of them simply rip off feeds and redistribute on their own network. Don't you enjoy the underpaid, student/techs/teenagers constantly reprogramming channels live while you're watching and leaving home while the menu is still displayed on your screen? :o

  8. I am not evil, Thaksin should tells LA Thais

Dr. Pol. Lt, General Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra with Thai children born and raised in the United States who visited Government House yesterday, sadly, totally unaware of the damage he has done long before they were born.

Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday told tried desperately to convince overseas Thais living in Los Angeles that he is not evil, as his critics have portrayedknow him to be, and that the current political conflict has come about because the various changes evil plans he has introduced have caused unease among certain groups of people who used to enjoy special privileges he had not yet deceived or turned against in the past.

There has been I have caused severe distortion to Thai politics at present for years,” he should have told a Los Angeles-based cable network catering to Thais living there that also broadcasts via its internet website. “I am quite tired, but I have to fend off [various obstacles] get rid of some people first so that democracy can no longer exist side by side with in Thailand.”

Speaking after receiving at Government House a group of Thai children who were born and grew up in the United States, Thaksin said: “You can be sure that I am not evil as being accused even though I can't help lying about something once a day. I am determined and dedicated [to work for the country], but not so sure if it implies breaking rocks in Bang Kwang for the rest of my life, .”

The caretaker premier stated that Thai politics in the past was characterized by a system of patronage with his own personal interest groups while the majority of the people was left out. “This has resulted in the bulk of the benefits being concentrated among the interest groups in my own pocket but not being distributed among the people.”

He should have added that things have changed and the people are being patronized and receiving direct benefits today. will no longer take it. “In a real democracy, political parties must clearly spell spill out their platforms wallets and what they will do for buying the people's votes.

Thaksin told his audience that Thailand has come a long way since the 1997 financial crisis and is well accepted in the international community should maybe have added that the loop has almost been completed. He noted that the country’s his candidate for the post of United Nations secretary-general – caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai – stands a good chance since many countries that he visited recently have expressed their support, except the US, "George seems to be avoiding me like the bird flu nowadays..."

He should have added that the fact that Thailand is fielding Surakiart to contest the post has enhanced badly hurt the country’s reputation since no Thai has assumed this prestigious position before Surakiart praised the U.S. in a "schoolgirl meets rock star" fashion, instead of answering properly when interviewed by the U.S about the responsibilities of this position..

Thaksin revealed yesterday that he had canceled plans to fly to Germany tomorrow to watch the final of the World Cup, alone, in his hotel room, along with lifesize cardboard cutouts of world leaders in Berlin on Sunday.

He said he will be spending the weekend in Thailand with his family. Thaksin said that Germany’s failure to reach the final match after losing to Italy on Tuesday played a big part in his decision, even though he did mention publicly that he cheered for all teams earlier this week.

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - It seems that nothing will stop Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from being at the final of the World Cup - not even a deepening political crisis at home.

"As of this moment, I am confirmed to go," Thaksin told reporters Sunday of his plans to watch the final match in Berlin.

    "I support every team."

Germany fan Thaksin cancels World Cup trip

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Thursday scotched plans to attend the World Cup final in Berlin over the weekend, blaming his change of heart on Germany's loss to Italy.

"I'm not going to see the final match, not after the host lost to Italy 2 to 0," Thaksin told reporters.

He said he would spend the upcoming long weekend marking Buddhist lent in Thailand instead.

It was the fourth time Thaksin has cancelled a planned trip to Germany since he became prime minister in 2001. On three previous occasions Thaksin had to cancel official trips on account of political uncertainties either in Thailand or in Germany.

Thaksin's fourth cancellation, although the planned World Cup trip was a private one, may also have been linked to politics.

The caretaker prime minister is facing an escalating political crisis at home after he delivered a speech to civil servants on Thursday in which he claimed an unnamed "charismatic" individual with "extra-constitutional powers" was engaged in a plotting against his government.

Various groups have called on Thaksin to name the individual supposedly out to get him, widely believed to be Prem Tinsulanonda, a former prime minister who is currently chairman of the Privy Counsil of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Thailand, which has been run by a caretaker government since February 25 when Thaksin dissolved parliament, is gearing up for another general election scheduled on October 15, although there are now doubts it will be held.

Thaksin, either seeking a break from his political woes at home or hoping for some good international publicity, had initially planned to fly to Germany's southern city of Stuttgart on Friday and travel to Berlin for the final World Cup match on Saturday.

The planned trip had been described as "private," with no meetings planned with German government officials.

  10. I saw a policeman near our shop at about 10 am. I was wondering what he was looking for. We hopped in the truck and he comes over and opens the passenger door :D Wants a ride to the next corner at the main road, about 200 meters down. I think he watched the World Cup late in the night and slept through in the morning, :o

Once at the corner, he said thank you and hurried out of the truck, but did stop and smile when I replied with " Mai bpen lai". :D

  11. Glue trap and a shovel.

Rat gets caught on trap, guillotine it with a shovel, dispose of trap. I use cardboard and spread on the glue. Works like a charm.

Why release a rat so it can reproduce and bring in more rats...

Wait until they start urinating around the house, the smell is horrible, we had to clean out our storage room where rats had been locked in while we were away on holidays, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g smelled of urine and had to be washed with soap and bleach.

Be careful so your domestic pets can't come in contact with the glue! Not that it's toxic but nearly impossible to wash off. Use baby oil if needed.

  12. If your cable company is anything like PTV that I subscribe to here, expect channels to disappear or be reshuffled on a regular basis. From what I've observed here after 2 years, it looks like their technicians are quite young of age and seem to suit the channels to their tastes, along with the childish Power Point presentations between movies, very unprofessional. BBC World has recently disappeared, along with TV5. ABC Australia had a warning for 2 months at the bottom of the screen , instructing viewers that their signal would be carried differently and how to retrive it once the change has been made, ABC disappeared from PTV for 2 months...The same just happened to BBC World, gone... There are also about 10 music video channels, a bit too much if you ask me.

But hey, for 300 baht a month, they have the best movie channel I've ever seen, Star world? :o
