  1. Why not take a True Move H card (iSmart). It is 699 Baht. 20-30MBps. 6GB data usage a month. You should be able to coverage from Vientiane.

Then tether the phone to the laptop. Or buy a USB 3g Adaptor?

You can get a signal from Thailand - I presume you can get data.

Else, the hotel next to the Bor Bpen Yang pub on riverside had decent wifi as I remember....

  2. Not seeing a problem on 13Mbps 3BB in Chiang Mai. Try Pingtest.net to see your results. Mine are 240-250ms to San Francisco.

Thanks, Tywais. Am on 3BB here in Jomtien staying with a friend for a dew days and he has 3bb in his pad.

I just got back from Cambodia & it seemed faster there. Much.

Can you do me a favour - how long does that page take to load? From Chang Mai? It should be about 3-4 seconds....

Any my ping time is almost 500ms!

  3. I noticed the ping time to the states is typically around 300ms. Is it me, or are things slowing down? I ran some tracetoures and it seems to take a long while to get out of thailand....

I don't recall it being this slow.

Someone at my IT Centre mentioned it was due to the introduction of 4g onto the net / re configuration of servers that connect directly onto Internet internationally... i got lost at that point.

All I know is I have a VPS in the States with InMotion hosting my pictures on a blog there, and it loads 10/20seconds.

    Any ideas?

  4. Ok - following on from this. ( I just started a new thread but will continue here ).

I called the UK Embassy today - they said there would be no issue 'applying' for another visa.

    Here is my concern:

I had a triple entry visa last December. Have been back in the UK for summer.

Would I be challenged if I got another triple entry? Or should I get a double or single, and then re-apply in the region after a few months dependent on my travel plans?

I presume Immigration would want to know more about someone on a longer stay tourist visa. And would be quite annoying if they refused you entry based on this.

I know people are saying back to back tourist visas are ok - but do you think double or triple entry visas might cause issues?

I want to be able to move around the region freely for a few months without having to repeatedly go through acquiring visas in other countries for Thailand.

    Thanks

    P

At this time, there seem to be no issues entering with valid tourist visas, regardless of prior visa history. If there were to be any changes, I think it much more likely that they would take a jaundiced view of visas issued in Laos than those issued in your home country. In your position, I would try for another triple from the UK embassy.

    Thanks for the advice.

  6. Wonder if anyone has advice -

I had a triple entry tourist visa issued last december from London. Have been back in the UK for 2 months. I called them today and they said there would be no issue applying for another tourist visa - I plan to return in a few weeks - will be travelling around the region and want some flexibility.

Ideally I would get another triple entry but wonder if will be issues since I just spent 6 months in Thailand on the last.

Any thoughts? Apply for a double then review in a few months - and get another in the region? Do you think Imm will be against two subsequent triple entry visas?

    thanks in advance

    P

  7. A. Most likely, it will depend on the current regulations in place regarding triple entry visas at the Embassy on the day that you apply.

    B. Normal procedures. When you enter you will get 60 days permission to stay and each entry can be extended for 30 days at immigration for 1900 baht. If you want to exit and reenter during your permission to stay, without activating, your next entry, you can purchase a reentry permit. cost; single, 1000 baht, multiple, 3800 baht.

    C. If, for some reason, they will only issue you a single or double entry visa and you need more time, currently, you could go to Savannakhet, Laos, and get a double entry visa. They are currently issuing them on the day that you apply.

    Good luck!

    Thankyou both.

  8. Hi -

Last Xmas I returned to Thailand - previously I had a company there (WP & Non Imm) and had a few years of Non-Imm Bs etc... so very few visa exempts.

I got a triple entry tourist Visa from the UK last Xmas and stayed for around 6 months travelling.

I am thinking of heading back for a few months having been in the Uk for summer. I want to get a new tourist visa from the UK so I don't have any issues over the next few months if I want to stay and or leave to other countries in the area & return to Thailand as a base.

A - will I be able to get another triple entry tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in UK or will there be issues as I have just had a triple entry visa (though it expired back in July when i returned to the UK).

B - if yes - what will be the likely procedure at immigration?

C - if not - what could be issues / solution if I want to be able to come in and out easily for the next few months. (I may have to return to the UK for some work for a month or two and or travel around s.e. asia)

    Thanks

  9. Baht bus from Naklua to Pattaya is WAY easier than from Jomtien i ainec. Also some of the beach in Naklua is nice the bit near the Palm condos i mean.

I live in Golden condo which is near the Ayara hotel. I like it, it's pretty quiet which is my top priority. Used to have decent view but i counted 16 new condos gone up in 3 years so now not so much except 10th floor up.

    It's quite cheap too :-)

Cheers, Ace. Will add that to the list of places to check out. That is on Soi 16 as well, right?

    P

  10. Hi

To OP I live in naklua, about 4 years now, quite like it, also do like Jomtien when I on occasion visit.

From the main naklua road, say around sois 16 - 18 it would take you about 10 minutes by bahtbus to get to Central shopping soi 9 Pattaya ( Barring very heavy traffic)

I sometimes walk by this place, on soi 18, same soi as Leos Blues bar, about 1 minute walk to Beach, about 3 to main naklua road, bars, restaurants nearby.

Never stayed there, they list some 1 bedroom apartments at 25 K baht a month( bills electric, water cleaning internet etc are extra though)

It doesn`t seem cheap although location excellent.

    thanks, seasia.

I will swing past and see them next week when I am down.

Will possibly go down to the Blues bar as well. Maybe I should buy you guys a beer for all your help.

PM me if you fancy a beer etc...

    Thanks again, all

  11. I would go for Naklua over Jomtien any day.

Many good restaurants in both Naklua area and Jomtien but slightly cheaper in Naklua than Jomtien.

Easy access to central Pattaya, if you live in Jomtien you will have to sit in overcrowded baht buses each time you go over the hill.

Easy access to the bus station on North Pattaya road, buses to Bangkok every 15 or 20 min for 134 baht.

Okay the beach in Jomtien is better but filled with Thais each weekend.

As they say: up to you.

That was kindof my feeling and why I been feeling like going for Naklua. Just a case of finding the right sort of condo...

  12. I live in Naklua, in Park Beach, right on Wong Amat beach.

There are, as you have likely seen on the internet, many condo complexes in the area. Most, but not all, would likely have units which meet your requirements. Many restaurants, taxis and motos all over the place, and a few music bars up along Pattaya-Naklua Road, or just off that road, like Leo's Blues Bar. There is a Tony's Gym just opened on Soi NAklua 16, right across from Park Beach.

If I were on the hunt again, I would visit the offices at Park Beach, Nova Mirage, Laguna Heights, R-Con, and others on Soi Naklua 16, as well as Sky Beach on Soi Naklua 18 (near the Centara). Many of those have units listed for rent, although I am uncertain as to how many would be amenable to short term rental, nor of the effect that you are looking for the same right at the front end of the high season. There are also smaller places along Soi 16 which list monthly rates, but I have no idea as to the amenities.

Check out Pattaya Condo Guide: http://pattayacondoguide.com/condominium-and-apartments-developments/In-Wong-Amat,7.html

With a bit of footwork, I am certain you will find a place.

Thanks. The blues bar sounds up my street.

Ok - thanks for that list of offices/condos. Very helpful. I could maybe do 3 months - they might be more ammenable to that.

    Thanks again.

    P

  13. Thanks.

I've never been to Naklua or Wong Amat - this is purely on reading up on alternative areas and clicking around on Google Street View...

How long does it take to get into South Pattaya if you are heading up there for shopping/night out? I mean, from Jomtien?

And which of the VT condos in JT would be up to my requirements? I had a look at some of them and they seem (many of them) quite old in design/decor.

Any other condos you'd recommend? I will just spin around on a bike and take a look.

    Thanks, KK

  14. Am moving to Pattaya for a short-period(s). 1-2 months.

Could anyone recommend a decent condo in Naklua / Wongamat? I have just been researching and these sound like suitable areas, away from intensity of tourism etc... of Central Pattaya, and having some of their own character and lifestyle + access to beach.

I still need to get up to BKK quite often so presume better than being down Jomtien + I have been there before and it was a bit lacking for me in terms of staying there for 1-2 months in terms of character.

I'd like a place I can readily drop into for a month or two at a time:

    - 20-25k

    - 1 bed or big studio

    - Good Wifi

    - Modern or at least well refurbished. Kitchen facilities.

    - Balcony

    - Pretty near beach

    - Desk / workspace - somewhere you could be in most of the day working etc...

    - Facilities there - e.g. gym etc....

    - Local motor taxis etc... if I need to get into Central for shopping or a night out

    - Local places to eat ...

    - Few bars : places you could hang out with some fellow expats & thais / live music would be good

    That kind of thing?

I've been googling but keep ending up with broken real-estate sites, and old listings of Siam Penthouse.... or Woodlands Suites (which is too pricey).

Anyone know of anyone renting somewhere / or a decent agent etc.., or recommended Condos I could go down and check out?

    Thanks in advance,

    P

  15. True. Good point re. high-rise.

Any names of condos you'd say were worth looking at?

re. WiFi - wonder if True WiFi reaches out to Jomtien.

At your price point (10,000 - 20,000) you should be able to find something in all the View Talays (as a general rule, the higher the building number the higher the average price), and also Jomtien Complex and many other buildings near the sea without going off the bahtbus route. If you have your own transport then your choice will be much larger and prices will be lower, but you wont see so much of the sea.

True Wifi does extend to Jomtien though maybe not all areas.

You might like Pratumnak also though public transport can be a problem.

Thanks, KittieKong. Yes, I found about the VTs earlier. They look good. Thanks again for the info.

What/How is Pratunmnak - I presume an area?

  16. I would get a condo in Jomtien. Lots to choose from and a million more coming soon.

The only thing that might not tick your boxes is the good solid wifi connection, but that applies anywhere.

If you are to be on a ground/low floor, does it really matter if it is a high-rise building?

    True. Good point re. high-rise.

  17. Hi,

I live in bkk and want to find a monthly place (serviced appartment) in pattaya. I don't know the area that well having only been down once. Want somewhere to get away from bkk and have a couple of possible business things to look into.

Can anyone recommend a serviced apartment along the lines of http://www.diana-oasis.com ? It is *slightly* over budget but I like the look of it.

    - modern but not high-rise development

    - some character : not ultra modern but rennovated - like diana-oasis

    - budget pref. around 12-20k : nearer 15 would be ideal

    - I don't want to be right in the middle of things : read walking street etc... pattaya beachfront...

    - Jomtien could also work : and I guess a bit cheaper

    - need a balcony

    - and a place to work during the day : desk / work area for laptop

    - Good solid Wifi / Internet connection

    - prefer lower or ground floor : some privacy. own entrance would be good

    - some cooking facilities etc...

    Cheers
