  1. I suspect you do not understand Thailand as of yet.

My first clue to your comments is you cannot spell. Either you are drunk or you have difficulties with the language which speaks volumes about your point of view.

We, as human beings, react to what we are exposed to. Many of us complain because we have negative experiences. In general, I would say that all of us have negative experiences in Thailand thus the negative comments. We stay here because of the few experiences that we value. Wife, gf, etc.

Thais have as a genetic/cultural disposition of xenophobic behavior which explains our negative response. To simple say we need to be positive about Thailand is a total misunderstanding of the problem.

Put simply, Thais hate us but we stay because of the small positives that we create for ourselves. Thailand is a hostile environment for foreigners but if you have the adaptability to create that small environment for yourself to flourish, then you can survive here or better yet, be happy here.

  2. Just curious but if the vehicles have first class insurance will the company pay out for the damage to the vehicles, or is it down to the buffalo owner to cover the repairs ??

After living in the country for a while I have seen several cases of buffalos causing damage to vehilcles and in every case the buffalo owner was liable for damages.

  3. Of those polled, 41.7 per cent named Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra as a role-model politicians when it came to virtues and morality.

I guess this 41.7 percent don't know about her seized assets or the pergury she committed under oath....or don't care.

Not quite. Perjury is no longer a crime in Thailand. It was dropped from the lawbooks when Yingluck had to lie in court to save the family finances and face. Remember that if you ever end up in a Thai court simply lie to every question asked(the more outrageous the lie the better) and you will be acquitted.

Not just in court. That is true throughout Thailand.

  4. Do all Thais own guns? They whip out these guns like they do a mobile phone and use it just as easily. w00t.gif

All my wifes family in the village own guns either home made and a couple of smith and wesson pistols, and i was recently quite surprised when my next door neighbour here in the city tried to sell me a 357 magnum, then my wife told me most of my neighbours here have handguns, and i do drink with them, but have not seen one pulled out yet, then again i never get that drunk with them or talk politics.

Probably a wise decision not to talk about anything that inflame emotions around the Thais.

Myself, I don't drink with the Thais. They are always trying to get me to buy a round. You know, rich farang.

  5. "Industry foresees rising returns..."

This explains everything. They are making this crap up as they go. "Foresees" can mean anything.

I can foresee foreigners being treated properly this year and corruption declining as well.

  6. I am getting fed up with the xenophobia in this country. It's always been there but recently it is getting more and more evident, mainly aimed, particularly in Phuket, at Russians.

Has anyone seen any evidence of Russian gangs running anything here? Hasn't the beach chair business been in the same hands for many years?

    Adding to your point...

The Russians are going after the money and that is the number priority for Thais. Xenophobia IS getting more evident but the difference is the rest of us try to stay off the radar so they only hate our existence. Thais hate the Russians twice fold for being a foreigner and competing for the money.

I believe that the Thais moving into the AEC will create much stronger xenophobic tendencies. They don't need much of an excuse.

  7. Is this the new Thainess that Yingluck was talking about? Comparing Western obsession with Che Guevara? Are the Thais really that stupid that they never bothered to crack open a world history book or tried to Google who Hitler was? Che Guevara was a revolutionary not credited with committing genocide matter of fact he was a doctor that believed in saving lives he just wanted to help the common man. Hitler wanted to eradicate races that were not aryan and I am sure if Thais were in country they would have suffered the same fate. Thailand is amazing but on this point Thailand just seems ignorant and quite frankly, disgusting.

Cracking open a history book beyond Thai history would be the beginning of the Thai down fall. That would mean things exist outside Thailand.

  8. I've been a DTAC customer for ~ 15 months, 12 months pre-paid then transitioned to post-paid. They have ~ 24 million customers here.

Their web-sites seem to be the most comprehensive, well-organized and informative of the three major local service providers - I also use TrueMove H pre-paid, and have some recent experience with AIS/2100 MHz 3G as well. DTAC also seems to have the best English-language versions of their web pages. They also have a decent Android app., and an excellent web-based account management (e-Services) interface.

I've had very good experience with DTAC, especially with their 3G service. I have registered for the Tri-NET service but have not yet received any details on a potential transition. You may/will have to register (name, passport) in order to transition to Tri-NET as an existing DTAC customer, I think this is mandated by the NBTC. I think if you transition to the Tri-NET service you should be able to roam/fall-back to 1800 MHz for GSM/2G and/or 850 MHz for 3G in those areas where DTAC does not currently have 2100 MHz. DTAC does have the most total spectrum here, and their 850 and 1800 MHz concessions run until 2018. They will also have the options to deploy LTE on 1800 MHz or 2100 MHz.

The DTAC Tri-NET 2100 MHz network might show up as "52005" if you are scanning for nearby networks.

Existing, long-time DTAC customers may need a new SIM to access the Tri-NET network.

Depending on your equipment, location(s), budget, requirements DTAC/Happy/Tri-NET might represent a viable option. I'd certainly recommend at least experimenting with a pre-aid SIM (50 baht) and a daily (49 baht) or weekly (199 baht) plan if you might be looking for a new or replacement service provider.

Follow-up: The Tri-NET/52005 network is up and running in some areas and DTAC employees have been using it for a few months. I think the plan is to transition primarily post-paid customers initially, based on some public comments by management. New post-paid and pre-paid customers, as of now/today/the next 4 weeks, might be Tri-NET customers. New pre-paid customers might have to buy a new Tri-NET-branded SIM

Obviously, you have some self serving interest here. Sounds more like an advertizement.
