  1. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Just noticed the date, and its now 18 months off the booze

Feeling fitter and stronger and a lot better in health

    Gotta keep this ball rolling

Dont give up all of you who are getting on the wagon, it can be done.

  2. hi sweex

when i first came to thaialnd i had some advice from a doctor when i had a check up. it comes to mind now. something like 'take life a day at a time and make the most of each day'

so the stopping drinking can be said to be a day at a time, its easier than saying i am stopping forever, after all, a day is only a day.

    good luck

  3. Hi Sweex

its funny but i just thought i would have a look on this forum which i dont do much these days as pretty busy.

well today is now 15 months without a drink. some weeks ago i realised i didnt need to drink and dont care if i never drink again, so really i suppose i have stopped drinking. not only that but my lovely thai lady has now gone nearly 10 months without a drink as well.

for 5 years i had owned and run bars and pubs in thailand and 2 of those years we had been together. we used to drink a lot. when i look back now i realise how often we used to get pissed and our relationship was so destructive and abusive. although at the time i used to think i could hold my drink with the best of them.

your right about no alcohol means no alcohol. abstinence is the easiest way to take control and if you dont want to start drinking again, then you wont.

my life has changed such a lot now, although it takes time to get rid of the effects of alcohol, i am more relaxed and less edgy, look better, feel better and have started to study again and attempt to learn thai language. i can now put my trainers on a do a bit of jogging and i have just bought another bicycle as i am now into cycling again after a lay off of 25 years. life still has its problems, but i feel much better equipped to deal with it now

so good luck and well done to all of you who have also got the better of the demon drink and for those thinking about it, go do it as well.

  4. Have been reading on the internet about Ribose powder, which is supposedly good to use in cases of fatigue, for rebuilding energy levels.

Has anyone any experience of this product and does anyone know if it is available in Thailand?

  5. the uk are giving cialis to specific patients on a daily basis.

in teckilek, burma side of the border from mai sai, it can be got for 100 bahts upwards per box of 4 tablets, it looks genuine and it works

i believe that most of the cialis, viagara etc sold on the internet is fake

so the only guarantee of genuine product is from a hospital, but when you see the doctor tell him to give you a discount and the smaller private hospitals are more sympathetic to your financial requirements, so i have found

  6. you guys are so cynical about our friends the bib,

but yeah, the beauty of this crackdown along with all the recent announcements, is whilst the police are doing this and the airport taxis and baggage handlers and fake dvd sellers and looking for porn sites and checking out kids in internet cafes and girls sitting with guys in karaoke places and conducting a war on drugs and removing business competitors, not to mention their battle against crime and corruption [not there own of course] they will be spread a bit more thinly and might not pull in so many easy target motorcyclists.

as the song went 'lets look on the bright side of life" :)

  7. What you guys want? Rome wasnt built in a day and neither will any Thai government solve the countries problems all that quickly.

It all takes time and maybe a long time. At least something is happening, even if if seems ineffectual to lots of Thai Visa posters. So give 'em a chance, let them turn the screw a little bit here and a little bit there, it all helps.

Bet you dont like the increase in fines on the road now that the bib dont pocket the money and you got to pay the station so they get commission????

Come on, lets try and give these people a help instead of nitpicking all the time

  8. hello tim , i am not sure if you got my message back to you as the internet went down at the same time i send to you, just come on now

thanks for your support tim, feeling somewhat blue about this as dont have good financial position, going to start a tefl next week to see if i can earn some more money and needed a bike, so when i saw this and got all papers and looked so clean i left the rest of my brains at home. good job they didnt ask more as i would have paid more for a 150 late model low mileage

it says in log book, which is up to date every year from reg in 19 june 2545

    suzuki model fu125sa

chassis bf41b-th100604, and engine f423-th100604 all same same as orignal

has change of colour from blue white to blue black in book

has new chromework and paint, that was obvious, and engine and stuff is virtually unmarked, would they respray an engine? it doesnt feel big mileage!

    has 4 gears and no clutch. neutral down 1 2 3 4

2 owners, gf spoke to second owner, foreigner [burmese] he bought off a teacher for 13 k and traded in at this shop for an auto and got 10k part ex, he also got the change of colour registered as being a foreigner wanted it to be right. he thinks it is a 127cc raider [???]. thats what the shop told gf when she complained, last of twin cam 125 engined raiders [with 150 stickers]

no money back from dealer, just too bad, gf speak to different people and they say should have checked, so there we are, i nearly bought a sonic last week, pity i didnt as at least i would ahve know what it was

so looks like i am stuck with it or lose a lot of money

will go to police tomorrow and make a complaint , not that i expect any thing from them

gf says if we still in krabi then connections would sort it out, but chang mai not home territory

so i wonder what it is??????

  9. well heres a good one PB. unbelievable

the suzuki raider i bought is not a suzuki raider, god knows what it is, suzuki 125 with all the stickers on for a 150.

now my problems start as the dealer says i bought it and thats that, cannot have money back

so he sells something that is not what he claims and then its too bad i shouldnt have bought it

oh well. this really is thailand

    what next????????????

  10. Camerata

i am interested in the cartilage supplements. just over 20 years ago i had the cartilage removed from knee after an accident. in those days i did a lot of running. what do these supplemetns do? they cannot replace cartilage, do they increase bone density? like jogging/running do and cycling doesnt do

I don't think it's a morbid topic at all, but it would take me hours to go through all my stuff. I'm in my late 50s, don't smoke, don't drink, eat well, exercise by walking 30 minutes every day, and am the right weight for my height.

I'm amazed at all the weird things I've got that I'd never heard of before but aren't that serious. Let me start with one that has no name. When I wake up in the morning my eyelids are glued shut. If I force them open, my eyes will still like I haven't slept for 24 hours. So the best thing is to get vertical and let gravity open them gradually. The right one will usually open pretty quickly. The left is the worst and takes several minutes to open on its own. So early morning I am walking around with one eye closed. Sometimes I gently massage it open. Apparently, my tears ducts aren't producing enough water, so the oil produced at night solidifies like wax (I assume the aircon makes this worse).

I also have had asthenopia for many years. This is a severe form of eye strain that you get from focusing at short distances for a long time. For me it's using computer. Apparently my eye muscles are out of balance so one gets more stress and causes severe pain for 48 hours. Sometimes it causes a nasty headache instead of eye pain. Since I have to use computers in my work, the only thing that helps is artificial tears first thing in the morning and 4 or 5 times during the day - and no reading small text. To get to sleep I need a combination of Tylenol 8-hour and Celebrex 200mg. If you get any kind of eye strain it's worth remembering to try Cellufresh MD frequently throughout the day.

I've had knee problems for 20 years - caused by structure of the knee and a bad habit of squatting Asian-style - that got worse and worse until I finally stopped jogging, started doing the right static quad exercises every day and got a good supplement. The main supplements for cartilage is glucosamine and chondroitin. The brand I use is called Triple Flex, and it really works. Now my knees rarely ache and hiking up steep hills is not a big problem.

Another thing I got a couple of years ago was a kind of hot flush followed by a feeling that if it continued longer than a few seconds I might faint. Apparently it's called near-syncope. The heart gets old and worn, has the occasional short-circuit that causes it to stop beating for a few seconds. When it starts again there's a rush of blood to the brain. So my doc says.

    Anyway, more later...

  11. Thought amnuay were expensive when i went there. so now i use a place about 200metre along the superhighway from the doi suthep road. dont know what its called as all in Thai. did tell the lady today to put an english sign up. They are helpful and cheap.

  12. >>Unsolved murders? How many in how many years? Is it one a year? Daily events in a lot of western countries.<<

Thought the problems with the murders in this country was not how many or that they were unsolved, but that the perpetrators were not apprehended in many instances

  13. I have moved to Chiang Mai and unfortunately [!] still with Maxnet. Speedtest is much higher here but actual downloads are even slower here for me.

So i am thinking of replacing Maxnets standard router. Anyone else already done this? And was it worth it.

    Any recommendations?

  14. thanks everyone for the information. i went to ruam chok saturday morning and maybe 100 bikes for sale, generally between 15 and 25 k bahts, some private sellers and a lot of small dealers. books/papers available. also sundays sell bikes as well.

really i am looking for a small motorbike rather than an underbone/ stepthrough/ scooter like they used to make

will try sanpatong next saturday where i might be luckier being a farmers type market. GF has told me not to buy a buffalo but as i said to her i have enough clearing up after the 2dogs 2cats and 2chickens

  15. i know there was a post about this before but i cannot find it

i want to buy an cheap motorbike and remember it being said that they were sold at a farmers market on a saturday morning and another market on an evening during the week
