  1. Disagree, I have 3gs 32 gig running 4.2.1 and thelatest base band jail broken with greenpois0n it took 3 attempts for it tocomplete but they do tell you that’s possible, hardest part was getting intodfu mode (must be my age slowing me down) and its as fast as my friends iphone 4 and seldom runs out of resources because it doesnt automatically multitask, however with backgrounder app i can selectively multitask any app.

Previously I was running 3.1.3 I upgraded to 4.2.1 as soon as greenpois0nreleased the untethered jailbreak, Normally you only have to wait a month or sobefore upgrading your firmware and are able to jailbreak again, always makesure you have the latest version of appsync

from cydia installed if you don’t want to lose apps when syncing.

    Greenpois0n

The iPhone dev team are beta testing an untethered jailbreak for 4.3.1 andlatest baseband that has been proven to work by Stefan Esser (video on YouTube)they are not sure if it will be released as redsnow or pagewin yet but it seemsits only days rather than weeks away. Read the blog.

If anyone wants some good free cydia sources or has some to share lets PM

  2. Nothing out there?? I cant find anything useful. Looks like there might be some for Mac. Pretty ridiculous me thinks. Something like myphoneexplorer would be perfect.

If you are jailbroken get iblacklist you can select contacts and all their sms's and your replies are stored in the app, the app can be password protected and you can switch off notifications and allerts for those contacts.

  3. Seconded. That's barking.
Yes you absolutely and entirely correct!

dam_n, why do not i have friends like you that know it all?? why why?!you must be one of the 25 year expats who retired on wealth you made back home?

how about if i name at least 10 gogo owners by their first name, would that satisfy you? or would you prefer to see business registrations?

Are you actually aware that at least 6 bars on Walking Street are owned by the same person? and another 5 by a group of foreigners?

Not to mention a large number of bars owned by a Thai (wife) but backed by a foreigner husband or boyfiriend or owned by a company which is backed by a foreigner!

May i suggest you get out little more often and rather then drinking just read the names on the licenses, yes i know they in Thai, so some Thai lessons would surely help.

Lets be realistic, take away the bar scene and what would Pattaya be? What has Pattaya always been?

Who buys and rents all the condo's? and how many family's do you see around Pattata?

Pattaya is a single men town which was created just for that and always served just for that. Take that away and what would you be left with?

There are are thousands of not millions of men who save entire year to come to Pattaya for one reason and one reason only. Take away that reason from them and see how many will come.

Its all good and well to be a saint and preach the "good" but sometimes its very useful to wake up and see the reality of things and see things for what they actually are with open eyes rather then through shaded sunglasses

Correct, but you are sorely mistaken if you believe Happy is Thai Owned.

Are you not contradicting yourself now?

First you were claiming that most bars are Thai owned and now you stating that the biggest and busiest bar on Walking street foreign owned

Sorry I've never stated that, only that Happy is not Thai owned as you said.

  4. LOL

May be you do not live here or get to meet too many people, but i think there are only a handfull of bars that are 100% Thai owned

But i am talking about bigger, busy bars not a bungalow shack with few chairs.

From what i know there most on Walking Street are foreign owned or backed, including some of the biggest clubs.

Right now i can only think of Happy GoGo and Worldwide Gogo being Thai Owned.]

You obviously dont know a lot then

  5. i doubt it so....

how do you figure that.... 99% are foreign owned or backed?

Perfect way to kill even more tourism and investors.

I wonder would be Pattaya be without all the "bad" bars? a nice empty space in Thailand?! LOL

    PS.

  6. Circumstances also change; people run out of money, are sick, possibly medication or drink causes people to complain more and be short tempered. Very often people take frustration out on the easiest target, or the things that have bothered them slightly in the past; I agree people who are not suffering from an outside influence that is causing change are very likely to complain where ever they are.

I doubt anyone here can honestly say they have never winged at some point even if it was just in a moment of frustration. What’s important is to understand what affects us and deal with it, life is about solutions not problems.

I spent a year in ill health recently, taking drugs (prescribed) that made me get pretty nasty with loved ones, it took my 10 year old son to point out to me I was being a shit for me to notice the gradual change the year had on me.

If things are shitty change them, understand what makes you angry and fix it. Not possible for some I know, I have a friend who can never find anything good here and revels in how he complained to another dumb idiot, Thai and Farrang.

Just think however not everyone is an arse by birth some may just be going through a bad patch or have problems that they find hard to cope with.

  8. I used to use a dental clinic on Pattaya Klang between 2nd Rd and 3rd Rd left hand side heading towards Suk, it was called 94 0r 95 and had a large ORALB sign, its moved since my last visit, if any one knows where or has contact details I would be grateful.

  9. Scum bag no doubt and deserves more than he will get, dealing and abusing a position of trust are not to be tolerated, however I often wonder how many of us if we were policemen on crap pay and having temptation flaunted at us every day can hand on heart be 100% certain they would not stray? I am not talking about Thailand but your home country, here its common knowledge but I think if we really knew the depth of corruption at home we would be suprised (UK for me)

I think of myself as honest and trustworthy however I would be lying if I said I was certain I would never be tempted if the situation arose and the circumstances were against me, debt, divorce, and many other pressures of life we should all be able to deal with and probably have but were never in a position of temptation like most police are daily.

Ill get lots of flack I am sure just be honest before shooting me down and think of all possible scenarios. Just remember Jack Regan our hero of the 70's and now considered corupt by todays standards as well as the recent program Life on Mars

  10. I have a Chevy Optra, (didnt buy it was part of a deal) that is manual transmission, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend someone in Pattaya that would be able to carry out a conversion to Auto for me.

Hard to resell a manual or part exchange so I'm sure its worth the effort.

Thanks in advance for any help

  11. Need to revive this thread and see if I can solicit any more comments on BEST school (just off Sukhumvit-Pattaya Tai).

After reading thru some of the previous posts I think some posters mix up the BEST school (also Burapa English School)

and the Burapa School (on the Burapa golf course). So I'd be interested in any more posts on only BEST (good or bad)

    from parents or teachers.

    Many thanks...

I had spoke about the BEST!!! Send your kids to the Srisuvit School and use the money what you save for buy a speedboat!!!

Snowgard I do thank you for the comments and as the Srisuvit School website is in Thai perhaps you can answer a few questions for me.

Is the school teaching English as a subject only, or is it the same as BEST and Satit and teaching in both English and Thai (ie: bilingual).

Is it actually a private school (as the two above) and following the Thai Govt curriculum or just a Thai governemnt school.

Any other useful facts would also be appreciated.

    Thanks...

giving this topic a new life as I'm also interested in that srisuvit school or any other english program schools near Pattaya that use native english teachers.

The boy I'm taking care for will be in primary 1 next year and he has been at Reps for k2 and 3.I'm quite happy with the education he gets there but if he could cut down on the travelling time each day it would be an advantage.

I really would take a look at Sathit, for a 6 year old you will not pay anything near 50K, it will be in the 30k bracket, and I can speak from experience that is well worth looking at. For Best to have changed to reach this standard there would have had to have been major restructuring, I am not saying that isn’t the case but going on how hard changes were while my kids were there I would say unlikely.

The other aspect is the facilities, Best had just completed the new senior school building the term before we changed, even in that short space of time it was in disrepair, there is no real sports field or sports facilities.

Most of the EP program teachers at Sathit are English or North American, they would be happy to talk to you if you went down at the end of the day I am sure.

It really is personal preference and the change was the best thing we could have done in our opinion, proven by the development of my kids both educationally and as people.

  12. My two cents worth, having tried most of the places mentioned:

If you specifically want steak, go to Manhattan's. Nice restaurant, good staff. Don't order the Caesar salad - they don't do this very well. Otherwise, if you don't mind spending some coin you'll have a really good meal here. It is expensive, wine list in particular.

Both Bruno's and Mata Hari have more comprehensive menus, as they are not set out as specializing in steak. If choosing between the two of these, Mata Hari would win out in my book. And contrary to a previous post, the owner is NOT obnoxious, and seems to have quite a good sense of humor, and sets out a good meal to boot.

I don't recommend Mantra if you're looking for a sure thing. While the cocktails and the desserts at Mantra are extremely good, I think the entrees there are hit-and-miss. You might have a good main course, and you might not. Try it another time when its not such a special occasion.

Of course, this is only an opinion, and your mileage may vary. Let us know how it turns out.

lemel, how do I find cafe des amis?

Ulysses, Mata Hari is in the same building as Manhattan's, opposite side.
