  1. The UBC/True Vision monopoly are stopping the BBC Entertainment channel as from 1 June. This was my favourite channel and after 10 years of giving my money to them (Platinum package), I have decided to give these people the elbow for their poor service, attitude and being fobbed off on the phone everytime I call about a technical fault.

What are the alternatives to these conmen? I live in an residential apartment block with no 'stolen' satellite tv and I don't want to watch those awful Thai soaps every night!!

What about cable tv? Does anyone out there have it? Is it pricey? What channels can you get?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have had enough of the UBC/True Vision mafia. :)

I also like BBCE but it will be intresting to see what AXN beyond brings, BBCE has some decent drama but its repeated often and episodes are out of order.

I was told about www.zattoo.com its online TV but they are not yet doing Thailand, the problem is you end up watching UK TV at UK times so nothing much on until midnight Thai time but it may be of intrest for anyone who wants to record and watch when it is avaialable here.

  2. Out here in the sticks (Trat) I buy a bogus UBC DSat smartcard for 200 baht that provides the full Gold package for 4-6 weeks. When UBC finally figures out what's up and disables the card I buy another one. Sure beats paying 1,412.97 baht a month...

Amazing why would anyone admit to theft on a public forum, it's true crime doesn't pay as most criminals are stupid and tell everyone what they do.

  3. I felt the entire building "shutter" a few times over the course of a minute. My wife felt it to along with some other people that just stopped "dead in their tracks". Perhaps it was the construction of the Hilton hotel (adding another 15 floors) on top the shopping plaza, but who knows. We got out of that building as fast as we could.

I was in there Saturday afternoon and also felt a real shudder run through the building, made me and a few others stop in our tracks. Not being a builder or engineer I have no idea if this is normal but would be intrested in a view from an engineer, I put it down to the building works above and it wont stop me visisting just yet as I think it is a great addition to Pattaya.

  4. It will take Thailand 20 years to get back to the position it was in early '06.

Pure folly to out a popularly elected leader who had set the economy straight, was tough on Thailand's debilitating drug problem, did fantastic work in the provinces and upset the elitist slobs in Bangkok.

Yes lets get back to being robbed by a man who purchased power great idea!!

Is purchasing the post of PM any better than taking it by force?

It's not how power is gained for me it is the reasons for gaining it and how that power is used once gained. I for one would rather be here as we are now than still have Mr T, Thailand is evolving and evolution must be natural so that the general populous adapt.

I may have a simple outlook but history shows that quick change does not always have longevity.

I am not a political expert but as a farrang I felt that the coup leaders deliberately tried not to make big changes but to leave it to the next PM to do so.

I would like the current PM to be given a fighting chance for a year or so and if he does not have the confidence of the populous by this time see him call for general elections once Mr T and his funds for vote buying are clearly not going to interfere to the scale they have in the past.

Corruption free elections are a pipe dream I know but it would be nice to see the next ones if and when they are held on a fairly level playing field.

  5. I had the Lasik done exactly 1 Year ago here in Pattaya at the BPH.

(hang on I will get my magnify glass)

My eyesight is perfect and clear at long distance, I can just about see the computor screen and need the magnify glass for small print. My eyes become tired very easily these days, and also become extremely dry. (I have to use artificial Tears)

On my last check up 2 days ago, the specialist said, for them to be 100% perfect, I need replacement lenses which is 200.000 baht.

I dont think that Lasik is good for people who cannot read small print close up, and there is still no way I can see my telephone.

To be honest the Lasik was not for me.

Thank you, if that is the case then it is not for me, my long distance is perfect its is just reading, phone and computer that I would like to fix, even with 5 pairs of glasses I can never find a pair when I need one.

  6. i had lasik there 5 years ago and cannot recommend it highly enough

i go for an eye check every six months too

they are very professional with latest equipment

Hijacking the thread a little, Timekeeper I am intrested in Lasik, I am 48, my sight problem is a reading one, my arms are just not long enough anymore to keep things in focus, I use reading glasses but seen that BPH have what seems a good deal on at the moment just under 40K for 2 eyes.

Any info you can let me have on why you did it ( same problem ?) and experience would be welcomed.

  7. A case of who dares wins, its still a great improvement on Suk for me, and when you see what the Army did in 3 years mostly from dirt tracks it really shows what a complete scandal Thappaya Rd is, over 3 years and a bigger mess than ever, maybe the Army builders don't drink tea like the friends of City Hall who are working on Thappaya!!

  8. Door-to-Door own all three delivery services as far as I know.

    That is D2D/WOW/D.Express

I have used these delivery services in the past, but don't bother any more following some disappointing results and the collapse of the British pound.

The only thing I have delivered now is the odd pizza.

I really reckon it's worth making the effort to go outside yourself and look for the nearest food vendor. I'm walking distance from a guy who sells chicken wings and legs on sticks for 20/30 baht or else I buy a spaceman meal from 7-11 and microwave it later in the evening.

BPH has a new department that for 500 baht will syringe your ears for you.

  9. Have you tried Cafe Des Amis at the bottom of soi 11-12 Thrappaya road, good food, good choice, good service decent price, I have not had a bad meal so far. Going again tonight with the family! one of my favorites is Mata Hari but this is just as good.

Anybody tried Madrid restaurant on 3rd rd nr pattaya Klang, its the same owners as Madrid in bangkok, good food and not a bad price, although the owner is a friend of the wife's! well worth a try.

Lemel I also Like Cafe Des Amis, was the updated menu on when you last went? its larger now I went Wednesday and couldn't fault it, Blue the owner is always friendly and I like the atmosphere.

I am suprised no one else has mentioned it yet. It's good for me as its walking distance from home so I can sit in the bar after dinner and not worry about driving home pissed for want of a better word.

What is the food style in Madrid, I think a real tapas bar would be a great addition to the dining scene I love snacking all night.

  10. neverdie.

quote ..... As a friend once said if you have a problem with getting an erection, just get a new woman.

    why not two ?

ive been seeing these two for over two years and dont have a problem when they get their kit off and get to work !

they help me to keep ( well feel at least ) young every 3 , 4 or 5 days or whenever i want ?

ok ok it costs ..... but marrying a westoner or any nationality woman will cost WAY bigger bucks than these two will ever cost me in ten years !

    p is 21 n is 23 and im nearly 60

    im happy !

they are happy seeing me ! ( one at a time or together )

    enjoy pic

    now wheres n s phone number ? : )

    regards .... dave2

    Hats off to you, my

Eek well done for venting against fat western men they seem to vent often enough at western women on here.

Testosterone injections do work I am advised by some older friends who have found a new lease of life recently. so unless you want to share those two thats the route i will go when required

  11. Does anyone have any specific information where I can buy a cable modem in Pattaya, I will have a look in Tukom tomorrow but if someone has purchased before and knows who stocks them here it would be appreciated.

  12. I think the OP is confused. I have been with women much older than I am. I was 25 and had a 40 year old girlfriend. Guess what? She still wanted my money. Age wasn't an issue. Perhaps it is because a lot of these guys just don't take care of themselves that they find themselves so desperate in their condition. Do you think anybody would want to sleep with a guy who had a giant beer belly, unshaved, and smelled like death? Comeon. I see these guys all over the place here.

Runner = Harris Black? Google Harris Black if you don't know who he is. You know the saying if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...

  13. Aksorn will fit your budget and is a good Thai school, I have two at Satit in the English program hwich is nearly 60k a term however the Thai program at Satit is about 30-35k a term I think, don't hold me to it.

  14. The relationship had been going for over 4 years, they had not met in a bar, she was receptionist in an office where his mate worked. They both lived together for over 3 years in Thailand. The guy is in Australia because of financial problems with property he has there. His gf, of course, doesn't want to hear about his financial problems. She is using the car as a way to get him back to Thailand. In the beginning, she didn't even like the idea of him buying the car. Anyway, looks like he has lost it, now he can add it to the Thailand experience.

I reckin if he were to turn up at the finance company and offer to pay the remaining money if his name was put on the Tabian Rot then he'd have no problems.

Remember the GF was likely the guarantor for HIM wit hthe credit company.

Above is the best advice, send someone along to the finance company with the registration number, ask them who's name the finance is in and who is the guarantor, I believe for him to be the guarantor he would have needed a WP, if the finance is in his name and she is the guarantor then they will indeed place it in his name if he pays the balance.

The easiest way would have been to have her sign a transfer document if the finance was in her name at the outset, that along with a copy of her ID card would have guaranteed ownership for him when payments are complete.
