  1. Even if you mod / chip the machine it will still be region encoded.

I brought a 360 from the UK over here with me and ended up just buying one here as most of the newer games just wont work regardless of what firmware is on it.

I now have a spare UK spec 360 elite console sat doing nothing with over a dozen games I don't play any more lol.

The kinnect and console are not rare at all Thailand or the UK as far as I'm aware and are readily available off the shelf in many places.

  2. Some mixed thoughts for sure. More replies than expected too, especially considering it's a national holiday time.

I admit, I never considered the option that people weren't comfortable / confident enough to ask people around them for guidance and would rather use a nameless / faceless network to ask for help.

I enjoy meeting people and although sometimes very challenging I also enjoy trying to communicate with people. ( this can sometimes be just as hard when they speak the same language lol)

Thanks to everyone for your input on this one. thumbsup.gif

  3. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that I'm not willing to help anyone and I do realise some people are not in a position to go find stuff for themselves.

There are, however, many people who ask the simplest of questions that would suggest they haven't even tried to find a solution to their needs.

As far as new members on the forum go, I'm always happy to provide an answer to a question where possible unless someone has already beaten me too it. I do understand that moving to a new country etc can sometimes be a little stressful, we've all done it.

I occasionally add information to posts where it may be useful if it's something of use.

  4. I believe this topic has been dealt with extensively on this forum already.

(I wish people would use the search button).

    (sorry.gif )

This should include the 'foodies' who ask questions like, where can I find the best (insert your food of choise).

Can't really agree with you there.

If someone is looking for, say, Egyptian cotton sheets then there would be a certain number of places that stock them.

Asking where the best burger is can only be answered with the opinion of the person answering it. It doesn't mean it IS the best burger.

Big C, for example, would either sell or not sell the Egyptian cotton sheets.

  5. they is a mechanic near the big temple or the police station.look at the temple turn left, straight ahead to the traffic lights.left side a mecanic bikes out front.his name is dang he is pretty good and reasonable

Is that the temple near the police station near the 7/11?

  6. Oh, I should add, that in the tea towel example, I've been looking out for them for some time, and have checked many places I thought would have them. I have not exhausted possible sources, but thought I'd ask. All these food threads on here, thought it was a good bet someone one know.

So I guess I'm saying, don't assume that just because people post a request here, it doesn't mean they haven't already tried to source whatever it is themselves.

Also, again to use the tea towels as an example, if I did find some for 100 baht each, and bought them, I'd have spent lots of time searching and 1200 baht for a dozen. Yet, by asking, someone may pop a post on telling me about a little known place that sells them for 50 baht each. Saving me both time and money.

I wasn't assuming in anyway but if people don't mention they've tried XYZ places then many people would assume they haven't looked anywhere at all.

Also, by mentioning places checked already (if any) it may save people wasting their time advising to go to places already visited and make the whole process a little quicker for those needing help.

Maybe posting something along the lines of "ok so I'm looking for ********* . I've tried XYZ places and this is the best price I've seen. Could anyone offer advice as to where it can be found cheaper / closer / more conveniently? Which ever applies.

I'm of the opinion this would make more people willing to offer advice rather than just possibly seeing another "where can I find" thread.

I'm not saying this happens a lot but I know I've been guilty of thinking that when someone asks for the simplest of things that can most likely be found in their local 7/11

  7. We've all been on here for a while now, some longer than others & some more than others.

I see lots of posts asking where can I find this? Where can I find that? etc etc

A lot of these posts are quite often from people who have been here for quite some time, more often than not longer than me.

Does anyone else think that it would be better to go take a look for yourself before asking on here?

I personally think it is a better way to do things as usually you can find what you want as well as get to know where other things are for future reference.

    What's your thoughts?

    Agree? Why?

    Disagree? Why?

By the way, this is in no way directed at any group or individual both on or off of this or any other forum.

  8. From what I've heard they're one of the most unreliable bikes sold here in Thailand.

Never owned one so not 100% sure if this is the case.

I have spoke to numerous owners who have long lists of parts that have failed and had to be replaced under warranty.

The warranty that comes with them as well as after sales service appears to be outstanding from what I've heard from the same people though.

I'm sure they can't be all that bad due to the amount of police pottering about on them.

  9. www. grim-dbs .com

Had one of their systems on my old 250 Ninja.

    Fantastic value for money.

    Looked and sounded great

Lightweight and made quite a difference to performance.

If I were looking for an exhaust this is where I'd start.

I'm in no way connected to these guys but I was very impressed with their service and product. The shipping was fast to Chiang Mai too.

  10. But you can rent a liter bike.

A KTM 620 Motard is likely faster than you on a R1 in the mountains... Street surface, all kinds of animals being on the road from cows and chicken to dogs... And ghost riders who won't anticipate you coming. ** Personally, I would like to rent a TZR-250, a NSR-400 and a RD-500.

Many of the bikes I rented had IRC tires - good luck!

Where exactly can you rent any of the bikes you mentioned in Chiang Mai?

I've never seen or heard of anywhere that does anything like any of the bikes you mentioned up here

Well, you can't. But OTOH, what is wrong with a Versys or some older liter bike? My own riding ability or the lack thereof

combined with mountain roads which are not familiar... Take it easy. So you can accellerate 3 seconds faster. Is that what gives you a kick?

Getting to know the curves, finding the ideal line, being fast (if that's your thing) is possible on some bikes which are for rent!

I'm in agreement! I don't ride a superbike but if that is what the OP wants then that is what they want.

I was merely pointing out that all of the smaller sports bikes mentioned are as readily available as a GSXR1000 or Hyabusa etc. Or trying to make the point that they simply aren't available.

Versys, er6n, er6f are most commonly available. CB400's are too then you're looking at 250's in general.

There are, obviously, exceptions to this but not in the superbike category.

If there are then please somebody correct me as I know lots of people here in Chiang Mai who will be down to rent them almost straight away.

  11. It makes me wonder about the people who made the decision to hold the election in Songkran week.

This weekend is a 5 day weekend in Bangkok followed up by Songkran weekend. So I know for a fact that many Thais use the opportunity to have a long holiday, for some in CM. combined with the influx of foreign tourist that always arrive for Songkran, it seems insane to deliberately hurt local businesses by forcing them to shut or operate without a full inventory.

A couple of my Thai friends own establishment on and near

Niman and they really upset about this.

Since when did Politicians in this country care about how their decisions affect 'the people' ?

Maybe it's timed along with the moat area alcohol ban as some of the politicians see it as a good opportunity to reduce the number of accidents caused over the holiday by intoxicated people.

It does happen far more than it should.

  13. Not done the MHS loop recently but we had a good ride through Phrao, Fang, Thaton etc last weekend and missed out Doi Mae Salong as it was completely pointless due to the pollution.

Today looks even better than yesterday so I would say go for it.

If the views aren't there do it again later in the year too, why not?

  14. Try Sunday morning early O'Clock.

    john

Better still go mid-week early O'Clock.

There are hardly any coaches / mini vans in the week but Sat & Sun are the busiest days for border trips.

This I know from experience, I ride up around / through Chiang Rai a couple of times a month on average. Not for visa's, just for the ride.
