  1. Lots of great bikes in this thread. Good pics and it all proves how much interest there is in big bikes here in Thailand.

My stable consists of a '98 Honda Night Hawk CB750 which I mistakenly imported from California, a '00 Africa Twin XRV750, a '02 VTX1800 (which I love) and my little darlin' rides a '98 Honda Shadow ACE 400.

Good fun and so many new friends make my retirement here the best choice I could ever make.

    See ya all in December.

Africa Twin is beauty, have some pics? Are you based in Cali?

  2. New car prices in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia are fixed, no discounts unlike USA. I bought cars in all of these countries and sometimes received full tank of petrol, holiday vouchers or similar, no discounts. Actually, I used to have a drink or two with Thai new car dealers and they often joked and dismayed about farangs who ask for discounts.

  3. Hi :o

If it isn't too much trouble for you, could you ask them how much would a brand-new Yamaha RXZ cost, imported from Malaysia (they're made there)? That's a 135cc two-stroke bike. Or is there a free-trade or similar thing between Thailand and Malaysia so i could just buy one there and ride it to Bangkok and register it?? RXZ used to be available in Thailand (i ride one) so it's not an "unknown" that would need emissions test etc.

    Kind regards.....

    Thanh

    Thanh,

I am in USA now, best if you talk to them.

One is teera motorcycle dude at bypass road (Alex) - chat him up on MSN: [email protected] .

The other owns that new bike shop at chaofa rd, few hundred yards after kajonkiet school. His name is SURI THAMRANG - [email protected]

  4. Take a look at this.. i am VERY tempted,. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...452029&rd=1

    Nice!

Never seen such one before...... but how would you get it hr? You know it's next to impossible to import a vehicle......

    Best regards......

    Thanh

I know two motorcycle dealers in Phuket who can import any bike, brand new or used. One is cheaper then the other though.

Imagine owning brand new ZX-14 for less then 450,000 on the road. It ships in 3-4 parts and gets re-assembled by them.

At least that is how I got mine but it cost me 690.000....straight from factory in Japan. That was before finding out about cheaper dealer though. :o

  5. the fact that you live in a hole that many thai farmers would refuse to touch kind of explains most of your pathetic posts.

Poor envious people are always trying to be sarcastic funny but failing miserably at it.

How can a old guy like you be so poor that he cannot live in a decent built house in a third world country?

If i was older(22 now) and living in some place like that, i would really feel i failed in life.... seriously the ex-inmates that walk the streets and give people publicity make enough money to live with more class.

Spot on petitechevre, you nailed it. Envy among some 40-60 year old farang residents is so obvious.....

If you want to live in third world paradise then live in style, buy decent house, car, maybe even a boat. How many times I felt embarassed being a farang upon seeing them arguing with Thai vendors over 10-20 baht in price difference for bear or plate of fried rice. :o

  6. As a matter of fact I do...
Then please post about the Laguna area, and not about areas you obviously know nothing about.

Take a chill pill dude...the topic IS about Kata/Karon not Laguna, right? Even 7 year old would figure that by now. If something else bothers you keep personal frustrations off this forum.

  7. There was almost a revolt two weeks ago when 20 odd farang teachers threatened to walk off the job!

The nephew of the owner is very heavyhanded with the teachers, to the point of the school being lovingly known as The North Korean Democratic Republic of Kajonkiet.

Overpriced, teachers are worked to death. Thai teachers are arrogant and students are not allowed to ask questions. But nice air con rooms!

Search this forum for additional topics on this school.

Yes, that nephew is some piece of work. Claiming to have degree from some fancy English school...whatever.

Once I lost my cool with him, prior to that I was always courtious and respectful. He was so surprised and changed his tune completely.

Believe it or not, Thai teachers and administration will treat you and your child better if they find out that you drive expensive car or live in fancy area. Such a shame....

  8. I had no idea out beloved island has fallen so much....

    Good luck.

Not sure where you are coming from but I rent a perfectly fine two level, two bedroom, patio, house for 12,000.

"I had no idea out beloved island has fallen so much...." what a load of B.S., maybe you live in the Laguna area?

As a matter of fact I do...

Reading other responses shows I was wright. No matter what, Phuket is terrific place and don't deserve to be put in same property rental category as Bangladesh.

  9. Hi Crobiker,

Thanks for sharing about your 7-11 experience.

    I just have 2 questions.

Does your wife need to have a degree or show history of management skills to be eligible for 7-11 franchise?

And finally, how much involvement do you need to run your franchises e.g staff recruitment and management?

    Thanks again

Yes, they did ask about degree and experience but it wasn't prevailing factor when making approval decision. Bottom line is "show me the money" and rest is easy. Personaly, I am not involved at all in day to day operations and my wife has a good break too. It is much less involvement then runing own restaurant. Recruitment is done by 7/11 themselves unless you wish to recommend staff who as I said earlier has to go through training process.

  10. Awful experience on my side.....too many agendas and politics. There are some good teachers but they leave school for greener pastures every 6 months. Mostly economical refugees from South Africa looking for opportunity to get visas for Australia and New Zealand. They don't care about your or my child, petty jealousies, poor conduct, lack of all good basics that makes teacher respectable profession. As I said, there are nice ones, but in minority and that isn't good enough. My son was there for 1 year and I moved him to QSI Phuket. Great International school, fantastic teachers. Yes, it is much more expensive but my son speaks awesome English now and he is only 8 1/2 years old.

  11. I use Bupa and Finansa (formerly known as nationwide). Finansa has been great to me, had a surgery 2 years ago and they handled everything perfectly. However, I have to add....my insurance agent is just about most decent Thai person I ever came accross, he took care of everything. I highly recommend him.

    who is your agent?

His name is Somboon. Sending you PM with details.

  12. Prices of setup differs on size of each unit. Check the attachment (find someone to translate to English) and you'll get pretty good picture.

Profit depends on location, let's just say I never had it bellow 50,000 baht a month.

I never asked for work permit, we setup company under my wife's name.

You may choose the staff but they have to be trained by 7/11 and complete the course successfully.

Also, I never seen farang working in 7/11, better leave this to locals. Every transaction and article on sale is accounted for. Anything goes missing, 7/11 HQ will report them to police per your request.

As I said, read that attachment, call 7/11 folks in Bangkok and they can give you more updated information.

  13. Example Calculation of Taxes and Duties

The following example shows a breakdown of the liable taxes and duties assessed on the vehicles less than 2400 c.c. cylinder capacity with a CIF value of 1,000,000 Baht.

CIF value of the imported vehicle and applicable taxes and duties are as follows:

CIF value of the import = 1,000,000 Baht

    Import duty = 80 %

    Excise tax = 35 %

Interior tax = 10 % of excise tax

    VAT = 7 %

The total import duties and taxes imposed on this import are calculated as follows:

    1. Import duty = (CIF value * Rate of import duty)

    = (1,000,000 * )

    = 800,000 Baht

    2. Excise tax = (CIF value + import duty) * {Rate of excise tax/1-(1.1 * Rate of excise tax)}

    = (1,000,000+800,000) * {0.35/1-(1.1*0.35)}

    = 1,800,000 * 0.5691057

    = 1,024,390.20 Baht

    3. Interior tax = Excise tax * Rate of interior tax

    = 1,024,390.20 * 0.1

    = 102,439.02 Baht

    4. Base VAT = (CIF value+ Import duty+ Excise tax + Interior tax)

    = (1,000,000 + 800,000 + 1,024,390.20 + 102,439.02)

    = 2,926,829.20 Baht

    5. VAT = Base VAT * VAT Rate

    = 2,926,829.20 *0.07

    = 204,878.04 Baht

    Total taxes and duties = 1+2+3+5 = 2,131,707.20 Baht or 213.17%

Thank you very much! That is what I call contributing comment unlike member in previous post.

These rules apply for motorcycle importation too?
