  1. Well, more then 3 years ago you couldn't register under own name but law changed. longball53098 is correct.

That's never been the case, at least in the 15 years I've lived here. I've purchased vehicles 15 years ago and another 12 years ago, all in my name and legal. Actually make that over 20 years ago when I first arrived, not an issue.

I was referring to non-immigrant type "O" visa holders, not those with work permits. More then 3-4 years ago in Phuket they wouldn't let me register brand new car under my own name. Then I bought Benz and Phuket dealership did all the work for me. Yet, i've been holder of this visa since 2000.

  2. Thanks but I do see that was 3 years ago and wondered if anything had changed recently?

Your dealer is ignorant and missinformed. I have non-immigrant type O visa and register cars and motorcycles to my own name without any issues.

  3. As well as playing some great football, i also admire the way they composed themselves. At times, Croatia where just a bunch of thugs and England didn't get drawn in. The crowd where fairly hostile too. Overall, job very well done. :o

it was a really good performance and an excellent three points, agree completely. was surprised at croatia to be honest, but england just didn't really let them play.

Yup yup....we got our ass kicked deservedly. Price to pay for being overconfident after beating England twice in a row. Still, credit goes to Capello, he can do wonders with this team.

  4. Hi from Bangkok!

Been to Phuket many times but will be down this Saturday for one evening with a couple of friends from Europe. Staying in Patong at the Burasari where I've stayed before.

Would love a great restaurant with a view on the water where we can have a good meal and good drinks before heading out into Patong for some nightlife. Restaurant does not have to be Patong but would be ideal if it is close.

    Thanks all!

    3 places come to mind:

Amari (as mentioned earlier), Da Mauruzio and best of all Boat House.

  5. 2006 Mercedes Benz 280 ML

Bought it from Phuket Benz in September 2006, Baht 5.85 million.

Phew...nice if you've got the beans ! My gf paid 750,000 for her terraced house in Khon Kaen a couple of years back. So with 5.8 mil she could have bought the row of 8.!! Its odd how cars cost more than houses here ?

Yeah, it's ridiculous...at that time that was $162,000. For that money in Europe you can buy Italian exotic car. I often wonder what Thai govt does with money earned from car duties? We should have best highways on planet but sadly this isn't the case.

  6. I lived in Malaysia for 8 years, down there street/sport bikers are very passionate and well organized. Since moving to Thailand in 2001 they have been teasing me about poor state of Thai superbike clubs. In fact I am not sure if there are any such clubs out there, all I see is easy rider, harley clubs etc.... The reason most of them refuse to come for Phuket Bike Week is because they feel kind of unwelcome.

Is there truely such club in Thailand, anyone? if yes, what activities are they involved with, namely charity, group rides etc?

  7. October is school holiday and i'm not teaching! Any chance of getting a ride and sharing costs? Sorry, i only own a Yamaha 80cc Fresh for school and back. Only asking?

    Thanks

    Phil

No problem asking but that's rather impractical when considering comfort and safety issues.

I agree about the safety & comfort issues. Hey Phil - how about renting a bike for this special event?

You can't take a bike which is not registered in your name out of the country.

    you can..

But you specifically need the registered owners permission in writing / letter and the green book.. Both not likely with a rental agent.

That is correct. All my bikes are registered under wife's name. Just make sure to translate it in English for Malaysian customs inspection.

  8. If you want to avoid being stopped by the BIB, tinting is a must

i was stopped once in samui and told that my 60% windscreen tinting was illegal , and should get it removed. no fine or hassle though.

i like the privacy i get with it , but night driving on unlit roads needs caution , on urban roads with street lighting no real problem.

i didnt ask for 60% tinting , i just asked for tinting , but thats what they put on. i should have been more specific and asked more questions at the time.

In Phuket police don't really care....I use 75% on my cars.
