From what I have read I think Prai historically might be something like an indentured servant with an owner or lord. Probably closer to a true European peasant. These days it is used as an offensive term for somebody low or contemptible.
-
This is still quite a feudal society. A large percentage of the population are basically peasants and there is no real stigma to being called one if you are one I.e just a villager or chao baan. You have to remember it wasn't that long ago Thailand had slavery so given the choice between being a slave or being a peasant then being a peasant sounds like quite a sweet deal. Kon kor taan just means a beggar. To insult someone's social status a Thai person might say kon dtam or a low person.

My favorite scooter that I have ridden in Thailand was the old Nuovo Elegance 135. I am 6'3" and with its big wheels and fairly narrow frame, comfortable seating position and good handling it had everything for me anyway.
If I was to get a new generation bike which model would give me the closest feel to the old Nuovo Elegance? -
Because he was elected only by the heads of government of the EU nation states, not as leader of any popular party or movement that had to face an electorate of any significance. In fact Cameron opposed his election
Or maybe he didn't resign because...
i) You would need honour and a level of humility to accept you failed at your job and he has neither.
ii) He never regarded the UK as an important member of the EU so while happy to take their money he never actually cared what they thought or heaven forbid important enough to consider their departure a failure of his leadership.
iii) He is happy to use Brexit as an excuse for even more Europe thereby securing his position and gaining even more power while trying his best to screw over the Brits in the process.

Can someone please explain why this man is still in his job? He presided over one of the most important members of the EU voting to leave. That means he failed totally in his duty to preside over a united, content and prosperous union!
Cameron resigned and I cannot understand why this joker didn't also do the honourable thing. -
If this guy is not ultimately going to face justice then she definitely deserves her share of any blood money going around.
She is well within her rights to fight for that share. It's what any good Thai wife would do. -
If you applied when not married then I think generally they want proof the relationship has lasted at least two years. They also I believe like to see some foreign travel experience.

The only problem I have with mango & sticky rice is that it sends me straight to sleep afterwards.
Every time!
Sticky rice already has an extremely high glycemic index. If you then mix it with mango and pour sweetened coconut milk all over it your body is going to struggle imo. -
The road works probably add 1 or 2 hours to the trip, plus there are a couple of bridges that got washed away in the floods that have been replaced by temporary pontoons.
Tough to do in one day IMO. -
They only post to your birth address so it means a visit to your village if it applies.
That's not true. They will post it anywhere. They only need to see a copy of tabian baan and ID card. -
Can you give us a bit more please? Did you have a ME visa or were you doing visa exempt? If so, how many VEs did you attempt?
I knew someone whose extension needed to be cancelled as he quit his job. He was able to do an out/in at andaman after a little explanation. Then he decided to do VE a second time and they gave him a hard time initially, thinking he was working illegally or should have gone to Laos
At least the ATMs are on the thai side [emoji32]
But at least 1 VE should be ok.
Was my first visa exempt entry in 20 odd years. Just turned 50 and driving up to Bangkok from Phuket to convert to non-O. Possible some kind of gratuity will make things go more smoothly there. -
Do you know if anyone has tried this this month? I used to use the andaman club at ranong for tourist visas (2+ years ago). I have an ED visa expiring on 3rd Feb which I have been on for 1 year and need to get a visa exempt while I am sorting paperwork for a non-O next month due to me becoming a father here (not born yet, he is late! hence the need for a visa exempt as ive run out of time). I was going to fly out and in same day, but if ranong is an option I can drive.
Went there about a week ago. They let me do it after hassling me a bit. I don't know how to put it politely but they are somewhat a law unto themselves down there. You can read into that what you wish... -
What sort of rent would you be looking for on a place like that?
-
Bear in mind if you have even $1 over $10,000 in any currency you are supposed to declare it to US customs. So say you have a few thousand baht and $10,000 technically you are supposed to declare it otherwise you are making a false declaration on customs form and they can pull you up in it.

Anyone know how come this guy has the Dutch surname of a wealthy patrician family from the Netherlands?

Just two friends talking about problems in their life. One is moaning how everything in life is fake, and the other offering moral support not to worry about the fakers and cheaters, just endure and things will get better etc...
-
Yes generally once you get outside Patong everything gets cheaper.
-
Kasikorn fee is 15 baht which is still a lot cheaper than the euro card whose commission will be around 2-3% or 600-900 baht on 30K.
No, as i said I pay only the ATM fee, the european bank does not take any commission.
They will charge you commission via their spread or buy/sell price. You need to find out what that spread is before you can determine how much it is costing you.

It would be cheaper to just wire money to kasikorn even if it is in Pattaya.

Go up and live in the village for a few weeks first. If you haven't gone insane by then you will probably be OK. Also you will need to learn the Isaan dialect if you want to talk to anybody, people do not speak Thai at all in day to day life.

OK so I am sure all you old hands will know where this is going, but I just had a 50yo check up at a Bangkok hospital and they reckon it's time to put me on Statins.
Anyway the check up took ridiculously long at about 6 hours in total shuffling about the hospital and by the end of it I just wanted to pay the bill and get out of there.
I knew there would be a premium on the drugs but was happy to pay a small premium, however the 10mg Statin works out at 100 baht a tablet and they sold me 3 months at 9,000 baht.
I doubt if I bought them in a regular pharmacy they would cost more than 1,000 and I feel like I have been ripped off.
Is there anything I can do in this situation to dispute the price of the drugs or am I just forced to swallow it?

[i reassure you, I have nothing to do with the "vault of the bank of mom and dad"
Most people make money without taking advantage of others (I guess).
That's funny, I thought the whole point of capitalism was taking advantage of other people.

Next time I am definitely staying single.

Once the love, trust and commitment end often times it can become every man for himself.
You need to do everything in your power to protect yourself, your heart, your emotional well being and sadly in this day and age your finances.
Stay strong and try and move on with your life as quickly as possible.

One example of a negative use of the word 'prai'.
ข้าไม่มีลูกสันดานไพร่อย่างเอ็งหรอก
