  1. He will do the 30 days extension, which gives him time to season the 800k for 2 months. He arrived monday this week. Money will probably be in his account tomorrow, Friday, he is using Revolut bank. Plenty of time left. He will do it without an agent, at least for now. Thanks again 🙏
  2. Thanks, DrJack. He has now read all the posts here, and will try by his own. If any problems turn up, he will contact an agent. Btw, he got his bank account already, paid 5000 baht through an agent at Sogoodvisa. Fast and easy process. All is good. Thanks again 🙏
  3. Yes. Locked up at IDC for 13 days around 15 years ago.. Not much has changed there since then, I hear. Not a place anyone wants to spend one day..
  4. He is the opposite of cheap, he just want to be safe, doing the "right thing".
  5. Makes sense, but the translation might be kind of confusing. Which type of visa can you apply for if you are currently on overstay? None. "If you have overstayed, you are not allowed to submit an application for this type of visa". The text makes no sense either way, since we can clearly say that this regulation hasn't been followed up much. Or else we would have heard more about it.
  6. Seems his best option is using an agent then. Most likely to go through. About the 800k in bank, it might be an idea to ask a couple of more agents. Mots is mentioned. Mr. Singh is another one. My friend wants to have his bases covered in case it one day will be a crackdown on the 800k in bank. Unlikely, but who can be sure of anything. Again, thanks, guys.
  7. Yes, thank you, I am aware, and I will give him all relevant information. Financially there is no issue. He was even considering the LTR visa. I think we have it all covered now, thank you all for your help and input.
  8. Yes, thanks, we are aware. DrJack mentioned it too. It's still time for all that from this or even next week, he just arrived.
  9. Yes, I think so too. I admit I did have overstay myself back around 2008 or so. I spent 13 days at IDC in Bangkok. A real hell- hole. I made a topic out of it back then. But I wasn't banned, and entered Thailand again shortly after. Have had no problem getting a visa based on retirement. This however is different, after the new rules of bans for overstay came in 2016, if I remember correct. But I very much doubt an overstay ban gets into your criminal record.
  10. I'm just thinking if he is refused doing it by himself, it might not be as easy to use an agent afterwards. But maybe you're right. The issue here is that the firm he contacted has really scared him, so he wants to be on the secure side.
  11. He had no issues. Wasn't asked. So all is good. Maybe the 5 years since his ban was over, made a difference.
  12. I read that too. Why Jomtien has their own rules in this matter, only god knows. But 2 months will pass if he gets his extension as well. But yes, i would recommend an agent, and Maneerat is a good one. I can show him where, I have used them before. Thanks, DrJack 🙏
  13. Thanks. He had an account before with Bangkok Bank, but it was closed after this long time. They charge a yearly fee if it's not in use, and when it's empty, they just close it. Yes, Maneerat is one of the best in Pattaya. Good recommendation.
  14. Yes, it's insane. I thought he would have no problem too, but who knows. If he wants the security, I recommended using an agent.
  15. Thanks, I was hoping you would answer. Jomtien office, he has just arrived, he will use an agent to open a bank account next week, and wire 800k. I can't imagine he will need an agent for the visa, but he wants to be sure, after he's gotten a really bad advice from a law firm.
  16. He has been in contact with a law firm based in Thailand, with 22 years experience, who claims to be experts in these cases, who also claims that a previous overstay ban will be on his criminal record, consequently he will not be granted a longer stay visa. They charge a huge amount (150k baht) to settle this with immigration... I told him that a visa agent most likely would settle this for him.
  17. My thoughts and advice too. Why take the chance? Thank you for your input.
  18. Hi guys! Finally I've got my best friend to join my retirement in Thailand, but we do have one question: Has anyone experienced applying for a visa based on retirement after a previous overstay and entry ban? My friend overstayed 8 years ago, by 13 months. Paid his 20k fine at the airport, and got a 3 year ban from entering Thailand stamped in his passport. Hasn't been in Thailand since. Now he's back here on a 60 days visa exemption, and wants to convert to a 90 days non imm. O visa, based on retirement. With subsequently 12 months extensions, to his fully retirement. I believe a visa agent will do that without a problem, but will he have any issues doing it himself? He's got the money in bank option covered. Anyone with similar experience? Thanks 🙏
  19. That's not how it works. You will be arrested, and put in a horrific prison at IDC in Bangkok, and you will be held there until you can pay for your own ticket to your home country, or get some friends or family members to do it for you. Some overstayers have stayed in this prison for years. Trust me, that is something you'll never forget, and do not want to experience.
  20. This is so BS, and so full of lies, I have no intention discussing this with you. What a load of crap. All Kremlin takling points, bla bla bla. There was never a Zelensky deal. I know perfectly well all about Russia and Russians, I am half Russian, I was born in that godless country.
  21. You can not be serious. I have read all your posts in the thread, and wow, all your talking points must be straight from Kremlin itself. I live in one of Russia's neighboring countries, and trust me, I know Russians, their mindset and what they are capable of. I have never seen anyone using so many words as you do, and still having no clue about this war. I would be embarrassed. I guess you are American, who has watched a youtube video or two. Try living as a neighbour to Russia your whole life, and you will find out what "fine country" this is. The West or NATO is not responsible for this war. That's a big NO. No freaking way. There is a reason countries in Eastern Europe apply for membership of NATO, that is because they are afraid of Russia, and need security. Because of Russian aggression. Finland and Sweden are now members, and Russia can thank themselves for that. This war has only one aggressor and evil side, and that is Russia. They lost Ukraine in 1991, new international borders were drawn and accepted by the EU, Russia need to live with it, like any other country.
  22. Try to keep yourself updated, or else this just looks stupid. Only 10 F16s has arrived so far in Ukraine (one shot down by FF), BUT around 45 additional F16s are arriving this winter. The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway are all finished training Ukrainians before end of the year, and they have stated that the rest of the F16s are coming to Ukraine accordingly. Please keep up.
  23. Yes, that is how it works in my country, Norway. Taxes are due in Thailand in the spring the following year, and must be paid first, in order to be reimbursed in due process. Or you might have this in order from your country already if you have registered migration, so you might not pay tax there in the first place. Each country has their own rules on that, I guess.
  24. No one will be taxed twice, but the double tax agreement only means that if Thailand decides to tax you, you will be taxed at their level of tax. And that is in many cases a little more than in your home country. You will be reimbursed in your own country once a year. This is not rocket science. Many expats do this already today, either by choice, or because that is the rules from their own country as well (you tax in which country you live more than 180 days). Several countries have this rule today (with double tax agreement), amongst them the Scandinavian countries, and citizens from these are well familiar with this practice.
  25. Thanks. Yes, I agree. I just thought I could ask another, but not completely off topic question in the same thread. I'll remember that. We would have avoided a lot of frustration from my side, also if I would have explained my case better. Have a nice evening.
