If only the government would set a reasonable flat rate to and from the airport in Phuket and enforce it with a strong conviction, then you might be able to get this mafia taxi out of Phuket or at least reduce them. Meters are great but it is harder to enforce them. A flat rate with BIG signs everywhere stating the rates, (including on the taxi itself), then there would be less price gouging. But after this "asking" to be nice business they will go back to their usual monkey business and continue gouging their customers.

Politicians and/or people in prominent positions that make these outlandish claims should be held accountable and required to show proof to back up their remarks prior to releasing these statements to the public. Just to say it is true, doesn't necessarily make it true. Stop spreading gibberish and fake news; it does nothing positive for the country or the people.

The two big beer bards more than likely will open their own small craft breweries under umbrella companies and prepare for the forthcoming beer wars. They won't let this eat away at their monopoly; their too big and too much money to lose.

Thank gosh the majority of the Thai voters don't think as you do/believe or the old guard would have won the public's vote, remained in power, and done business as usual. Gee, what's your beef regarding gay marriage? It is an important issue that the majority of voters wanted to see happen.
It, along with other changes, will help Thailand move faster into the 21 century. Doom and Gloom isn't what Thailand needs now; move forward party gives hope for the masses. Pita, regardless of his background, is young enough to listen to the public's needs and hopefully Thailand will see positive changes.
And by the way Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of Moving Forward Party in Thailand, did not attend MIT or Harvard. He completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and his MBA from the University of Sheffield in the UK. So before you deliver information, do fact check and get it right!

Priorities, lol!
I just hope and pray this party isn't aligned with the woke globalist agenda. If these people are selected by the Davos/WEF crowd then the young Thai voter will be screwed yet again for another generation.
Who is this guy Pita Limjaroenrat anyway, and where did he come from all of a sudden? Wikipedia says he's a student of Harvard and MIT which makes him a perfect candidate amongst the globalist elite. I'd suspect the IMF can't wait to offer billions of $$ in loans to ramp up spending and set the stage for large foreign financial corporations to slowly sneak into the Thai economy and start the robbery. Feels like young MFP voters are having their Barack Obama moment, which was a A big trojan horse!Too early to celebrate, but if the 100-senators doesn't vote him in; there's no way he becomes PM. Plus, the more parties they cooperate with to form a government, the less of these bills comes a reality.
Thailand certainly needs a young fresh leader, but I'm not a fan of someone making useless priorities by putting gay marriage their 2nd top enactment. Plain and stupid!

Instead of making threats about this incident, the powers to be, should have turned it around and used as a PR for the beauty in Thailand and an educational moment. Threats of fines and/or arrests doesn't attract tourists, it sends a message that Thailand isn't a friendly place. The allowing any government official to speak out to the media or public is not a good policy and should be stopped. All information should come from a central source; not from any Tom, Dick, or Harry that chooses to express their thoughts or feelings on the subject.

All these dumba$$es on the bikes need to pay restitution, a nice "vacation" for said 3 months in Bangkok jail, and then banned from Thailand. And oh yes, they have to pay for overstaying in the Kingdom and being put up in the Bangkok jail. Would be nice to have a travel ban on them also. No country should be subjected to idiots of this nature.

So, when this Tourism Fee, (TF), is implemented, a Tourist doesn't necessarily need additional travel insurance! (This certainly will be the general consensus from travelers)
Thailand is paying our medical bills with the TF!
Yahoo!! What a deal....NOT!
I can already see the writing on the wall...
NEWS FLASH!!
Tourist tried to use tourism Fee insurance scheme; hospital
would not accept this form of payment; Tourist was not allowed to receive
medical help and has quietly passed away this afternoon. RIP

Rules, laws, and codes are usually never the same as you are used to in the country you came from. Thailand is a country that is evolving and modernizing. At 55 years old you should have enough common sense to be cautious in what you do and where you go. He needs to take accountability for his actions to some degree. TIT

Thailand wants to promote a vibrant and positive Thai Tourism approach to the world, however junior officials keep stepping up and changes laws, rules, and making outlandish comments to the public. This is not the way to promote tourism; constantly changing rules through media is confusing at best for Travelers new and old to Thailand.
The top officials that DO make the laws/rules need to rein-in and put a gag order on those "junior officials and stop them from making any decisions or comments to the public. Though, this may be a good idea, it needs to be kept internal and presented through the chain-of-command for consideration of creating the rule or law.
Until the lawmakers do this, some tourists, especially first-time tourists, will look at this calamity and just go elsewhere because they don't want any problems on their vacations.

How to increase and improve tourist numbers:
- Immigration police crackdown on tourist overstay by stopping and checking tourists constantly.
- More random police road stops.
- More random police raids and <deleted> testing for drugs.
- More misinformation and unnecessary complications regarding tourist visas
- Implementing more new rules and regulations just as the restrictions have eased and tourists are wanting to travel.
- More misinformation about bar closing in resort areas
I'm no economist, but it might be wise to wait another year or two before implementing new rules, laws, or radical changes to allow for the economy to bounce back.
Let the golden goose lay a few golden eggs before choking her to death.
This is only meant as a tongue-in-cheek post. Don't take this seriously, ok?

This is a blatant act to keep the wealthy in control of the beer market. The government needs to allow for free enterprise in the beer and wine industry and take away that stupid afternoon mandate of no alcohol sold.

Why not offer at the airport or border-crossing a choice, to qualified incoming visitors, an option of 30, 60, or 90 day visas? Set the costs at say for 30-day free, 60-day 1000bht, and 90-day 2000bht? You pay with a Credit card or baht to immigration and get your passport stamped; off you go. This would be more streamlined, less hassle, and easier way to entice more tourists to visit Thailand.

Force the man to pay a few million baht to compensate the motorcyclist for his pain and suffering and put the shooter in jail for about 20 years. That will send a clear message to the jerks that think because of their status or money they can get away with it.

Isn't hanging wires, broken/uneven sidewalks, and possible electrocution every time it rains, what you pay for in the "Adventures to Thailand" package you purchase from your travel agent or airlines? Come on, (for those that are perpetual complainers), if it were perfect and uneventful you would probably go elsewhere to find something to complain about. Lighten up! Yes, the wires are a danger but this gentleman has been living here, it would appear, for a while now and we all learn immediately when first coming to Thailand to watch out for where we place our feet on the sidewalk, motorcycles on the sidewalk, and hanging wires and other obstacles. It is what it is. You learn to navigate as everyone else does and go on with your life.
For the record, I am thankful he is alive, and wish Khun Mark a speedy recovery. I hope he wears his helmet and watches more carefully where he is going. This can happen to anyone regardless of age.

My question is this:
Where in the world is the school for government officials that teach the art of dancing to the left and then dancing to the right? Is it a prerequisite to becoming a successful government official? This is, of course, discussing all government officials around the world. No country in particular. Inquiring minds would like to know.....

I was in Krabi earlier this year and they have buses as well as other modes of transport to get you to your location at a very reasonable price. There is no reason for this sort of price gouging to go on in Phuket other than the local hierarchy wants their brown envelopes and so it continues; business as usual as soon as the spotlight is shining somewhere else.
