If we are going to be honest with the situation we have to admit the current laws were passed without a lot of thought of consequences. Whilst I love a puff as much as the next guy I do concede the current situation is only going to lead to more pain for many in the form of irresponsible use and behaviour leading to more road deaths and accidents as well as other long term health affects from blatant abuse of the stuff.
I do believe in the up side regarding health benefits but getting stoned and then getting behind the wheel or handle bars is not a health benefit for anyone. I gave it up 5 years ago after smoking it for 40 years and I can’t say I regret it. My memory was being f##ked over and I was doing some silly things.
I appreciate the investment ploughed into the grass business but I do believe the current laws need to be amended to at least try to protect innocent lives that may be inadvertently affected by some irresponsible users. These laws were passed in haste for political and financial advantage and now need to be reconsidered.Let's put the blame on road deaths where it belongs....IDIOTS and POOR ENFORCEMENT! A vehicle doesn't kill...The operator of the vehicle is to blame. Create and stick with stiff penalties for those who have bad behaviors. Don't let them buy their way out of it. Bad behavior is bad behavior whether straight, drunk, or high. Go after the individual; don't punish everyone for that idiot's actions. I'm afraid I have to disagree with placing the "blame" regarding road deaths on that green leafy stuff; I blame the idiot behind the wheel.

If Thailand bows to the CCP on censoring their news coverage then what's next? Maybe they will start demanding more control over the government's actions in other areas. It may be smart to tell the CCP to shove it. Look around at the countries that have gotten in bed with the CCP and see the skewed relationship they have. The CCP is the very definition of a bully and should be called out for it.
Definition of a Bully:
bul·ly /ˈbo͝olē/ noun-

There must be a burning desire among some of the government officials to destroy the tourist economy. WHY pitch ideas like this at a time when the Thai government is trying to bring as many tourists to their shores as possible to boost the fragile economy? It seems like one hand doesn't know or care what the other hand is doing. They really need to have one central spokesperson to speak about public policy and that is only after it has been reviewed and approved by the chain of command.
They really don't need any loose cannons making statements that pi$$es off the visitors thinking about coming.

Phase 1: Airlines request volunteer passengers to weigh themselves and their luggage to gather average weight data. You know for weight distribution and fuel savings. Wink, Wink.
If no real pushback from Passengers, Airlines will move on to the next phase.
Phase 2: Airlines will demand passengers to weigh themselves and their luggage to gather average weight data. You know for weight distribution and fuel savings. Wink, Wink, and a Wei.
Again, if no real pushback from Passengers, Airlines will move on to the next phase.
Phase 3: Airlines will have a set weight limit for each passenger and their carry-ons, (weight limits will more than likely vary from airline to airline). An additional fee will be applied to passengers who exceed the limit.
This is just another bad idea to float out there when every country's economy is in the toilet and desperately needs all the cash injection they can get!
This is definitely not a positive PR move for tourism.
I can see it now: Come enjoy what our beautiful country has to offer, but first, you need to step on these scales so we can extract more money out of your pockets and make you feel like s#&t and pi$$ you off. Welcome to our country!
I would only hope there will be a LOT of passenger pushback to this sort of airline practice. Because, just like the seats, weight limits could be subject to smaller sizes/limits; in the end, everyone could be paying to collect weight information for weight distribution and fuel savings. Wink, Wink, and a happy Wei.

This situation reminds me of the old song: Her and the Car and the Mobile Home are Gone Boys.

I hope they increase the police force and prepare for when the Russians start filtering in with this new 90-day visa. These folks are not the best-behaved group of denizens.

The best response that I have heard of from a member of a cabin crew is 'Our job is to save your ass. Not kiss it.'
On a more serious note, most passengers seem to assume that it is the crew's job is to serve them.
It's not.
They are there for passenger's safety. The rest is just a bonus.
I am a pilot and have been flying since the early 70's so I do know a little about rules and responsibilities of the crewmembers and you are right they are there for the passenger's safety but they are also there to assist the passengers getting on and off the plane as well as if there is a beverage and/or food service, or assistance passengers to get settled in; the crew is there to assist and serve.
I think possibly you are buying into the airline's new business model scheme. Which is: Everybody, shut your mouth, get aboard, sit down as quickly as possible, this cattle car is all about our profit's bottomline not for your comfort or your pleasure; you're lucky we let you fly with us.
Airlines forget if it wasn't for the paying public they would not have an airline. As for the that cabin crew member you mentioned that made the smarta$$ remark, "Our job is to save your ass. Not kiss it.", needs to be fired or at the very least, retrained and disciplined.
I don't know what really happened on this flight to cause such an issue, as the story here did not elaborate enough or give both sides of the story, but some folks do need a helping hand with the overhead luggage and THAT is the responsibility of the crew members to assist the passenger.

The Ukrainian shouldn't been allow to leave the country until the problem was/is sorted out. Then, if indeed, he did this dastardly deed then he gets banned from returning to Thailand after he coughs up the baht to satisfy the damage or off to prison he goes. He makes it tough for the rest of us that are renting and/or leasing. I had rentals for years and believe me some of the things people do is mind boggling.

From the hospital suite, to a hotel suite, and then on to home. His health is to fragile to be left in a "prison". Nothing to see here...move along.

Ahhhhh.....The people have spoken and they have been heard....."Now go back to your daily lives and let us take care of Thailand for you as we know what's best." "Nothing to see here, move along." ~ New Ruling Class of the Empire

Maybe have a vehicle and/or driver inspection on these pop up police stops? Start grounding some of these vehicles/drivers that shouldn't be on the roads. I know, I know some of you are saying that would be most of them, but you have to start somewhere. They could tighten by inspecting the vehicles at yearly registrations and make sure the drivers can pass driver competency testing when they get their licenses and license renewals.
Again, I know some of you are going to say TIT but steps have to be taken if they really want to reduce deaths on the highways in Thailand. You can't wish it away.
This was a needless tragedy that could have been avoided if proper training for the drivers were applied.

Patong to airport by Bolt 450 baht... ystday Cheapest Taxi quote was 800b 555
I was in Krabi earlier this year and they have buses as well as other modes of transport to get you to your location at a very reasonable price. There is no reason for this sort of price gouging to go on in Phuket other than the local hierarchy wants their brown envelopes and so it continues; business as usual as soon as the spotlight is shining somewhere else.

If only the government would set a reasonable flat rate to and from the airport in Phuket and enforce it with a strong conviction, then you might be able to get this mafia taxi out of Phuket or at least reduce them. Meters are great but it is harder to enforce them. A flat rate with BIG signs everywhere stating the rates, (including on the taxi itself), then there would be less price gouging. But after this "asking" to be nice business they will go back to their usual monkey business and continue gouging their customers.

Politicians and/or people in prominent positions that make these outlandish claims should be held accountable and required to show proof to back up their remarks prior to releasing these statements to the public. Just to say it is true, doesn't necessarily make it true. Stop spreading gibberish and fake news; it does nothing positive for the country or the people.

The two big beer bards more than likely will open their own small craft breweries under umbrella companies and prepare for the forthcoming beer wars. They won't let this eat away at their monopoly; their too big and too much money to lose.

Thank gosh the majority of the Thai voters don't think as you do/believe or the old guard would have won the public's vote, remained in power, and done business as usual. Gee, what's your beef regarding gay marriage? It is an important issue that the majority of voters wanted to see happen.
It, along with other changes, will help Thailand move faster into the 21 century. Doom and Gloom isn't what Thailand needs now; move forward party gives hope for the masses. Pita, regardless of his background, is young enough to listen to the public's needs and hopefully Thailand will see positive changes.
And by the way Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of Moving Forward Party in Thailand, did not attend MIT or Harvard. He completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and his MBA from the University of Sheffield in the UK. So before you deliver information, do fact check and get it right!

Priorities, lol!
I just hope and pray this party isn't aligned with the woke globalist agenda. If these people are selected by the Davos/WEF crowd then the young Thai voter will be screwed yet again for another generation.
Who is this guy Pita Limjaroenrat anyway, and where did he come from all of a sudden? Wikipedia says he's a student of Harvard and MIT which makes him a perfect candidate amongst the globalist elite. I'd suspect the IMF can't wait to offer billions of $$ in loans to ramp up spending and set the stage for large foreign financial corporations to slowly sneak into the Thai economy and start the robbery. Feels like young MFP voters are having their Barack Obama moment, which was a A big trojan horse!Too early to celebrate, but if the 100-senators doesn't vote him in; there's no way he becomes PM. Plus, the more parties they cooperate with to form a government, the less of these bills comes a reality.
Thailand certainly needs a young fresh leader, but I'm not a fan of someone making useless priorities by putting gay marriage their 2nd top enactment. Plain and stupid!

Instead of making threats about this incident, the powers to be, should have turned it around and used as a PR for the beauty in Thailand and an educational moment. Threats of fines and/or arrests doesn't attract tourists, it sends a message that Thailand isn't a friendly place. The allowing any government official to speak out to the media or public is not a good policy and should be stopped. All information should come from a central source; not from any Tom, Dick, or Harry that chooses to express their thoughts or feelings on the subject.

Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism
in Thailand News

In Thailand's current legal approach to addressing complaints or reviews, there's a risk of exacerbating damage to their image. Accepting the inevitability of dissenting opinions, especially in the evolving landscape of social media and communication channels, might be a more prudent strategy. Adapting to this reality seems more constructive than engaging in legal battles that could potentially draw negative attention, bad PR, or inadvertently amplify the spotlight on those seeking to criticize or attack.
