Various branches of the US government, including the CIA, tried to raise the issue of the outbreak in China with the President as early as late December and he simply didn't want to know, it took several weeks thereafter for the coin to drop. In addition, the US President removed funding from the CDC which paid for the one viral expert in China who might have detected there was a problem. As result that person and the associated team was withdrawn in July last year and not replaced citing budget cuts.
Nothing was said about one government or the other having a monopoly on stupidity. However, it is clear, China's government WAS in the "driver's seat" and regardless of any other country saying/doing anything, (or not), they had a responsibility to their own people and to the world to be forthright and report what was happening immediately. Heck, they refused help from other countries when offered and made statements at the same time that nothing was happening with this virus; it was all fake news! You can blame another country all you want but it doesn't erase the fact that China screwed the pooch on this one. And I hope the pooch bites back and so does the puppies!

How totally misinformed that is. I highly respect China for its responsible and efective actions in curbing the spread of this virus. I think sadly for the good folk of the USA that the extreme Capitalist nonsense there and lack of affordeable or better free medical care will result in far more deaths there and possibly a terribel reulting sporead of this virus there. So yes once the dust has settled I hope the world does condemn the USA (not China) for the lack of free medical care and available cheap or free necessary drugs and vaccines when they become available (already well in development (yes you guessed it in China where people come well before profits) .
The USA of all people should have such a sensible free at source medical system there (similar to the UK or what we truly had in the UK before Thatcher !!) in the richest nation of the World, it is disgusting that they do not IMHO. Only chance of putting that right is to ensure Sanders gets selected and then elected as a much needed decent US preisdent who puts people before greed and excess profits. Yes all people should have a choice but NOT simply just purchasing power !!!
WOW! rayw you are a complete China propaganda supporter/promoter aren't you?
First.
FACT: China was NOT responsible in that they attacked their own doctor among doing other despicable deeds to their citizens, (later him dying from the very virus he tried to warn the government about), for talking about convid-19. The government of China when to great links to suppress any reporting to their own people and to the world months before it was known that the virus was raging unchecked in China. Even China's government didn't take their own situation seriously until it was way out of control and killing their citizens!
Second.
FACT: China does not put their citizens before profit; Look at what they are doing to their own people; Organ harvesting for profit from prisoners and mass imprisoning and killing of their muslim citizens, (these are proven facts) this is just to name but a few of their human rights atrocities. I don't know what bubble you have been living in, but China's government is for the upper elites and the money they rake in is NOT for the people; their standard way of doing things is: regular citizens are to be used, abused, and come in last.
Third.
And furthermore, you nor I will know what will, (or will not), transpire within the USA and how they implement or how they will recover from this horrific tragedy. It's just too early to tell. But we do know for a FACT, if China's government, would have acted responsibly and warned the world sooner, that China had the convid-19 running loose and out of control in their country, there would be a lot less people catching the virus and a lot less deaths! So I really think the world SHOULD look at the actions of China's government or lack thereof and take the appropriate steps to call them out on their stupidity and greed.
FACT: The USA needs to have universal healthcare that I agree with you about. And Bernie could be the man to do it, if he won the presidency.
Stay safe and may your environment stay healthy! Peace.....

This is typical China propaganda. Keep throwing money and ideas at different people/governments and hopefully the propaganda will stick such as this statement:
"THE VIRUS DID NOT START IN CHINA; CHINA IS THE GOVERNMENT THAT WILL SAVE THE WORLD FROM A VIRUS THAT THE WEST IS RESPONSIBLE FOR."
Oh! Oh! LOOK!!!!!! I just saw a pig fly by my window on the 27th floor of our condo building too! People are, in general, smart enough to see through this BS.
Hoping when this is all over and the dust has settled governments of the world again condemn China's government for allowing unsanitary ways of doing business and pressure them to join with the rest of the civilized world a more sanitized lifestyle. Wet markets and spitting has got to go.

if Coronavirus and Mall shootings wasnt enough to put you off.
Now your going to be charged for the risk.
It's like paying a cover charge to go into an attraction that has all the risks and thrills, however you might not make it back out and possibly become part of the show! Now that should get your adrenaline pumping if anything would!

Surely this would be more environmentally friendly, less expensive and more efficient tooperate
They have smaller/narrower sweeping/cleaning vehicles in Holland for use on the narrow streets there. Perfect for the Soi. and tight to get places.

Here is a few wild Thoughts to improve their tourism downturn:
- Extend the visas with no charge for westerners up to a period of say 4 months
- Do the simple visa changes/extensions over the internet instead of fighting the lines at immigration
- Stop requiring tourists to register multiple times where they stay when they traveling around the country
- In other words make it more welcoming, streamlined, and more hassle free for the western expats to come and visit and they might just seeing a mass increase in western tourism again.

More and more ugly concrete another huge heat sink and has any thought gone into disabled access ? IMO a tram would be much better and as for the fare, they could, but wont, follow a few of the cities around the world to combat pollution Perth in OZ comes to mind free bus rides in the city center connecting to the train station.
It doesn't have to be ugly nor does it need to serve one purpose, ( see http://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:1235843/FULLTEXT02.pdf for examples of design styles), as far as disability access, that is an easy fix and something that is already used on modern elevated transport systems. I am not sure about being a heat sink if proper design and materials are used; the elevated structure would serve more as sun shielding and would be cooler below.
If Thailand wanted too, it could make an elevated transport structure that would become a tourist attraction in itself by its pleasing aesthetic design along.

WOW! This transport system will be up and running by 2023! Just in time for the high speed train from BKK in 2023! Buses are banned for entering the city! Baht buses will be rerouted! WOW! The fragrance of Bull ???? is filling the air. WOW! There goes another flying pig too! WOW!
But in all seriousness, it would be freakin' fantastic IF Pattaya's transportation issues were solved by 2023....... Along with wastewater management properly sorted; beaches kept clean and free of fecal coliform bacteria and trash. Oh well, we can dream......

It has to be a raised tram. With the traffic congestion and poor drainage systems, a ground tram with never be reliable and doomed to failure before even getting off the ground, (err... pardon the pun!). I know sky trams are ugly concrete monstrosities, but maybe they could spend the money that will be wasted on politics and nonsense studies and use it to get artful with the concrete columns. They could make it ascetically and artfully pleasing with a little imagination. But if pigs could fly........

The authority drunk power brokers continue to tighten the screws on the keg of powder; me thinks the explosion will be mighty. Other countries are looking better and better to the average tourist. Will the last tourist please turn off the lights before leaving?

The powers to be are just not happy they are not getting a slice of the pie when it comes to condos stays. Soon that will change and most likely not for the better.

A large fine, 30 day imprisonment, confiscate the vehicle, sell the vehicle. That will get the attention of the general public. Comply or lose...a lot.

They are just being "cheap charlies"! Instead of cheating, just offer the appropriate amount of "tea money" and your grade with be good. I simply don't understand why people have to cheat when they can go through the "proper" steps and pass any test. Wink Wink

WOW! I believe it is believable....and yes I did see that pig glide by on those beautiful wings of gold just yesterday. Believe me.

Was there a braking problem here? Did you see the Israeli, he was wearing a MIGA red hat? What's that about? Will there be a 500 Baht fine and a Wai? Now it is all said now everyone can get back to business. I wish the man good luck on a expeditious recovery.

Local authority chief Phankham Kittithornkun said, "He had ordered more decisive action. A meeting and survey is planned for today that could see all the animals rounded up and homes found for them elsewhere."
I say send all the unleashed dogs in populated areas to the home in the sky; plain and simple. There is no room for uncontrol animals that are vicious and diseased in areas where humans frequent. I think Thailand need to cough up money for damages for this family and every other person stray dogs negatively impact. Costing the government big bahts will be a fast and sure way to force a permanent solution, by the government, to ensure the public's safety from attacking animals.
Speedy recovery for the young lad and the best to his family.

Not excusing these idiots for breaking the law and being reckless, however, Why not enforce the driving laws across the board and not blame any particular segment of the population? This pointing fingers doesn't solve anything.
Here just a few of the infractions that could be worked on:
- Driving on the sidewalk
- Driving the wrong way
- Driving without a license
- Driving without a helmet
- Illegal Parking
- Illegally controlling of Parking Spaces
- Unlawful vehicle on roadway
- Vehicles in violation of Safety and/or Overloading
These are just a few areas that could be pursued and reduce the law breaking sufficiently if they enforced the law correctly. But will they ever do it? Odds are not good on that.

So based on this if an infirm foreigner visits Thailand with his private nurse, on tourist visas, that nurse would be breaking the law.
Yup! If you came with your personal staff and was touring around the country and your staff was assisting you, as they always do, then you are breaking the law.

This is a slippery slope he is choosing.....Me thinks someone should mind their own business and get on with life. Political correctness is going way to far in the global atmosphere we are having presently.
Someone could consider him a peeping Tom or a maybe a bit of jealousy in that it wasn't him playing in the water with her instead of her male partner. And yes, it could be very innocent between the two in the water.

The governor needs to implement signs placed everywhere including in all people transport vehicles that gives a hotline number along with the rules. This sign states this in multiple languages. The signs in the people transport vehicles are issued with the drivers taxi permit and shows a number for use by the public to identify the permit holder. If signs are removed from the vehicles then they lose their taxi permits permanently. This would be one way to help enforce taxis using meters and abiding by the laws. Of course we will probably see pigs flying overhead before this logic is employed; because, well, as stated by many of the other posters here, this has been going on for a very long time and because the taxis are told to do it, it doesn't make it so for very long. Continuous enforcement of the laws is the only way to break this cycle.

I disagree: Hindsight only is in part of the statement that I wrote. Again I say, "China's government WAS in the "driver's seat" and regardless of any other country saying/doing anything, (or not), they had a responsibility to their own people and to the world to be forthright and report what was happening immediately." That statement was NOT hindsight but baldface FACT. Another FACT: China refused specialists in this field of expertise to help even after it was known it was NOT the outbreak of seasonal flu, and it was out of control! That wasn't hindsight but again, FACT!
China needs to be called on the carpet for their "underhanded and shady" tactics they continuously try to pull on their global neighbors.
