The ten baht fare only applies if you hop on and hop off on the normal route and the driver can pick up additional passengers, if you flag one down and request a specific destination it’s a negotiated rate and they won’t stop to pick up other passengers.
When I was there they offered me tuk tuk (cheap) or taxi (negotiated)

I'm seriously looking at Cambodia as an option for my retirement where, up until now, it has always been Thailand.

Well there goes that idea to make money from the poor ...

I wonder if that includes the guy who is on a permanent resident/refugee visa from Australia ... the football guy.

for many years I have been actively looking forward to my retirement in Thailand which is pretty close now, but with recent events and the unfriendly visa requirements, I am now looking to Cambodia ...
I'm both sad about that but looking forward to exploring the new options in Cambodia.
This year will be my last trip to Thailand

Seriously, these 'rulers' of the land (in their various power-guises) have a SERIOUS detachment from Thai reality! This truly is a schizoid society: does one thing, but says another (the opposite of the truth)!
The problem was not their dress, but the fact that the performed a sexualised dance display around a child ... I applaud them being pulled into line.
I'm no prude, but lets leave the kids out of it ..

This guy has permanent residency in Australia after fleeing his home country after (alleged) false imprisonment based on the activities of a family member ... He travelled from Australia to Thailand and, if deported, should be returned to point of origin (in my opinion - which may be legally incorrect, but not morally incorrect).
Thailand has a track record of deporting people to countries where their life may be in danger or they may be persecuted.

These heaters are meant to be installed outside with just the water piping coming through the wall.
Because they are a small (instantaneous) unit, many people in Thailand install them like the small electric ones, which are made to go inside.
There is nothing wrong with the heaters, they are not "sub standard" they are just misunderstood ????

I'm not sure ... wrong plus wrong equals right?
who cares who did it, it still isn't right and if the culprit can be found, then prosecute

This election will be a farce. The next one will be more interesting.

The interesting thing will be, after the election, which with the deck stacked as it is, he will get in, he won't be able to use section 44 anymore.
It wont apply to an elected government.

Cutting the tree down achieved nothing, the stump is still "partially blocking the footpath" ... better get a stump muncher in.

I'm sure I can see a power pole, wires and a phone tower in that picture ... is that the right village?

Good to see a potentially serious alternative to the PT/Democrat/Coup roundabout ... I hope this gets legs and takes off.
I'm a little worried about the lack of some more senior (age-wise) people (judging by the picture) who could probably add experience and balance, but we do have to get off the well worn path.

Given that this has been going on since 2008 they'll also need to prosecute the 'previous leaders of a previous government' all over again.
Maybe, but I'm talking about those at the wheel now, who have the current responsibility.
The but but they argument doesn't or shouldn't apply.
I would just like to see the laws and punishments applied fairly.
Even going back to the democrats in 2008 and PT in 2011.

So ... given that previous leaders of a previous government were prosecuted for negligence in not knowing that 'rorting' was occurring, can we expect to see the generals in court and paying restitution?

The government needs to educate people and tackle the source of the garbage ... Drains and canals are not tips, but the amount of trash that ends up in them is, (in Boris's words) Eye Popping.

Not paying the bill, definitely not on, but calling for them to get a "Good Kicking" (Thai Style I take it) is still not a good look ...

They aren't sub standard, they are just designed to be installed on an outside wall. Read the manual guys

You can blame the wind and rain as much as you like, but the fact is that if the Transformer was installed correctly and in a safe fashion, it would never have fallen.

What he didn't state in the article are some of the other factors for the decline such as dual pricing, scams and just ripping off the tourists in general.
People will only take that crap for so long before ... so long.
