I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on the visa run companies in bangkok. I have used Jacks Golf (nr. times square) before and they are pretty good. But I'm wondering if nyone has found any others worth mentioning?
thanks

I'm looking for a good database developer to work on a project. Ideal candidate is fluent in MySQL, PHP but we will accept other formats if there is a good reason (i.e. the right candidate prefers them).
The project is not hugely complex and, from my experience, should not take more than a couple of concentrated weeks to complete to beta stage.
Prefer non-thai, pro-active person who will take an interest, rather than just follow orders. You should be able to work from your own premises and, obviously, a broadband connection is going to be useful. We would also prefer that you are local, ie Bangkok area.
If you are interested, please email me with your details, experience, req. salary and any questions (I will assume you will have some, as this is not a detailed post).

thanks

Hi All,
I've applied to Metroblog (http://metroblogging.com/) to have them start a Bangkok blog but you need ten willing writers for them to set it up. Have a look at some of the other city blogs - they are pretty good - and if you'd like to sign up, use the apply page (http://metroblogging.com/apply.phtml).
See you on there!

i wanted to try it because i never enjoyed the 1st one and yes, this is alot better but really not my cup of anything at all.
Fun for a bit.
Though the rest of the world seems to think it's the best thing!
Ah well!

I'm heading to Jakarta and KL for a week each in october, close enough to my visa run to make me take care of it whilst I'm there. Does anyone have any experience of either place and how the embassy is? ideally I'd like to get triple entry tourist visas (ala penang)
thanks

Hi
As for progress, well, I got halfway and have a workable solution. I have found a certainset of fonts - they all start with DSA{name} and they work fine in Illustrator (what I need them in), so that will do for now.
Thanks for everyones help, much appriciated

Will they issue a new passport if you are only here on a tourist visa? I heard many embassys only do this for people with work permits?
I know the UK one won't give a portuguese passport - I was asking about both embassys!
thanks!

Only very slightly OT, but... has anyone here had any experience with applying for a new passport (due to the old one being full of stamps...) at the British or Portuguese Embassy here in BKK?
Or, alternatively, has anyone had either embassy put extra pages in their PPort? (I never heard of this, but an American friend of mine just had 10 pages inserted in his book, over the counter for free at the USA embassy)
Many thanks

Hi Richard W,
To answer you, yes, Tahoma works but produces identical looking characters to Airial Unicode.
Yes I do get consistent character replacements with other fonts.
I still cant get "thai" fonts to show in anything. Even in a font browsers utility, they are western. I'm obviously missing something

Hi
I need to use illustrator and photoshop, specifically. Quark 6.0 would be nice as well. The main problem I have is that any "thai" font I install does not show as Thai on screen. The only font that will produce thai is arial unicode.
My need is to use a number of different fonts, in thai.
thanks

Hi All,
I recently bought a PC which was installed with American / English WinXPhome. The keyboard has Thai characters on it (as well as english). Thing is, I'd like to get some Thai typing done but am not sure how to do it.
So far I have managed to only produce thai characters in Arial Unicode, by swapping keyboard languages in control panel. Even then, the thai only appears in Adobe Illustrator and MS Word.
If I install a "thai font", it just produces western characters.
I'm at a loss. i'd like to be able to type in thai, in any chosen application and use a wide variety of thai fonts.
Can anyone help me out?
thanks

Hi All,
I hope I'm posting this in the right category.
I have some family coming to stay in january, for 3-4 weeks and so I'm looking for a serviced apartment for one month only for them. I know there are so many of these around, I thought asking might narrow the search.
I have these requriements:
1) budget up to about 50000B all in
2) min. one bedroom / bathroon / lounge / kitchen(ette)
3) stair access (not *just lifts*) and so, apartment on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th floor only, really. Noone wants to walk to the 17th!
4) within 5-10 mins walk of BTS / main road (preferably Sukhumvit)
5) if at all possible, closer to Sukhumvit Soi 23, the better (not that important)
Many thanks,
Neph.

Thanks for that information. What is the level of English like at the hospital? Will I be able to communicate with the nursing staff ok?
-
I have to undergo key hole surgery (PCNL) to remove a very large kidney stone and Chulalongkorn Hospital (government hospital) is the only hospital with the equipment for this type of surgery and doctors skilled in using it. I have already checked - and had numerous consultations in each - and none of the private hospitals (Bumrungrad, BNH, St Louis etc...) can perform this type of surgery.
I have no idea what the government hospitals are like in Bangkok, and wondered if anyone knows Chulalongkorn Hospital's reputation and if you have any opinions about it.
Many thanks

Just a simple question... when you go for a non imm B visa, do they actively contact and question the employer who has given you the letter?
If so, what do they do if the workplace is closed?
Just wondering how the process evolves.
thanks!

yeah, thing is that i was with my g/f who has the exact same visa set as me - and hers says "tr"!
when the guard looked at both, thats when he laughed and decided it was a typo...

Withnail,
Can i just ask: what visa is valid for one year, requiring you to leave every 90 days, but does not need a work permit?
thanks!
