  1. RDN: I had 10 ten years left on my passport, but it was full.

Lopburi3: I am about to transfer the stamp. I haven't done so yet and I will be making a visarun with the new passport, not the old. It might be confusing because my first post was before I had decided which one to do and so asked both questions :o

    Cheers!

  2. Neeranam: well, if they dont want the letter, no big deal. If they do, then phew, I got it already. I would rather spend 15 minutes at the embassy and 30 minutes at immigration than find out the staff at the Cambodia border are having a bad day and being a pain.

lopburi3: yeah i think you missed something. must be those 1000's of post, making you go blind :o

    Cheers!

  3. All,

thought i'd bring this one to a close (more or less). I am on a 30 day tourist visa, but immigration still want a letter to transfer that simple stamp to my new passport.

i have heard tales of people taking both passports to the border and having no trouble - i have also heard of people having trouble, so i figured it's no big deal and my old passport has clearly been cut by the embassy, I'll just transfer at immigration. I have the time, etc.

Anyway, I called the UK embassy this morning at 8:30 and when I got there at 8:45 they'd done the letter for me, no problems at all. So now it's off to immigration. Simple.

I suppose if I have only one complaint / dumb question - it's why didnt the uk embassy give me this letter with my new passport? Afterall it makes sense that I'm going to need it :o

Anyway, all sorted - thanks for all the help

    cheers

    Neph.

  4. Ah great thanks for that.. but one thing - that last one, the letter - for real?

I mean, I don't have a letter - the embassy just sent my new and old passports back to me, ems, no documentation at all. The old passpo has ben cut, at the corner, so it cannot be used

Should I ask the embassy for a letter?

    thanks

  5. Hi everyone,

Quick questions... I just got my new brit passport and have ended my last one on a simple one-month tourist visa for least paperwork & time & questions etc etc etc.

    So, question one...

What docs / photocopies do I need at immigration to transfer the visa. Is it still desk 6? Last time I was there I felt I saw this long long list of photocopies, but can't remember what.

    Q2...

I dunno if this is possible but... I need to reknew this visa on 23rd June and I plan a jacks golf run, just for ease. Is it possible to NOT transfer the visa and get JG to stamp me out of Thailand on the old passport, into cambodia and again into thailand on the NEW passport?

I have no idea how legal that is (not at all I guess) but I doubt that's ever stopped anyone trying :o

    Thanks all

    Neph.

  6. Ok. Thanks for any help that you gave. Found out what the problem was. Really simple but the manufacturers fault. One disc was marked INSTALL the other GAME. So obviously i use the INSTALL disk. Would you not? I thought ###### it. I'll try other disc as another last resort. None of these discs were marked Disc 1 or Disc 2 just what i stated before. So tried the GAME disc. And it worked. Doh! Maybe the discs were marked wrong? I dont know? But its working now.

thats funny - the non-original copy of this available everywhere suffers the same problem! i guess now we know where the copy of DEIW originated from... and it's a good game, btw.

  7. Does anyone know if any of the cinemas in bangkok let you get tickets in advance? So far SFCinema just say "same day only" (MBK and Emporium) and I havent tried EGV yet (and dont really want to go to CTP / WTC).

Unsuprisingly, this is for Star Wars Ep III.

I'm amazed I can't get tickets in advance. Online, over the phone, or in person. Sheesh.

    thanks!

  8. Thailand doesn’t recognise common law partnerships, so the non-working partner is going to have to do the 3 monthly visa run unfortunately. The only way for the partner to stay is if you are married.

Like Dr PP says, places like Australia and UK recognise common-law defacto relationships for immigration purposes if the couple have been living in a relationship akin to marriage for between 12-24 months respectively. Many (probably the majority) are heterosexual couples that take advantage of this law.

Samran (and others) thanks for your help. I had hoped that Thailand had got to the same point as other countries - whereby you don't have to be married but do have to proove that you have been living together, something we could easily have done.

I loved "as you may as well get married if you are heterosexual.". And thats the easy solution, huh? :o

    cheers all

  9. Hi all,

As half of a western couple, but not married, I was wondering about this: is it possible for one of us to get a work permit (this is not a question about how we get that, that is no a problem) and keep the other one in the country as common-law spouse (ala Australia). I would assume the cl spouse would not be able to work, that is fine.

Or do we have to be married?

    Many thanks

    Neph.

What is the present visa status you both have in Thailand

we are currently both on tourist visa (multientry) so I would guess we have to leave the country and apply for imm. b visa to re-enter, then start the wp application?

  11. Wondered if anyone can help me out... there's a building on the river, I was told that it was going to be a sofitel (or some such) when it was built, however, they found it leaned a couple of degrees and was so unsafe, it was sealed up and left for a decade.

Now, it's being fixed, as you all might have seen, but I'm looking for some facts beyond what I already know / have heard about the original owner / problem?

    many thanks

  12. How is it running, the last SC I gave up on,to buggy and jeryy.

Playing Brothers in Arms Hill30,but not getting very far yet.OK game though, little different in how you approach a battle.Takes a bit of getting used to.

Runs perfectly on my pc (p4 3ghz + GF5950 256MB vram) but I'm not playing it. TBH I played the last two on Xbox and I can't convert to the PC controls! So now I'm playing SC CT on Xbox as well and it rocks... except it's too ###### easy.

I just finished Brothers In Arms (XBox as well) and loved it, but it's a little short.

  13. Its available in Tukcom Pattaya, saw it today,no copy's only the Thai original version,B550,but I dont think you can change the languish.

I got the thai original, eventually, for 550B - there is no thai language option in the game, it's actually the euro-version, reboxed and rebadged for thailand.

  14. Does anyone know of a place to get tshirts printed? It'll be one-offs, and preferably on a black tshirt. Ideally they'll take an image file off me. If they have some degree of English speaking, even better.

If anyone can help, please let me know!

    cheers

  15. "Sometimes you don`t realize how good your staff are until they have gone.

Always best if possible to compromise."

Actually, she was complete crap. I'd wanted to fire her for weeks, since I figured she was stealing some small stuff like cutlery and her idea of cleaning included rearrangign toothbrushes and not cleaning the toilet. She was recommended by the owner, though :o

The condo staff do - and will - clean the apt, I just prefer an outsider really. Less gossip for the staff and security guards... "oooo those farang... i tell you... "

  16. Our maid has resigned.

That was a shock, not quite sure why (except we had a somewhat different view of exactly what "hourly rate" meant!) but now we need a new one and really are not too sure where to look.

So I was wondering, does anyone here have recommendations? We have a small apartment, not far from Asok BTW (5 mins walk) and the other maid tended to spend 3 hours, once a week, cleaning from top to bottom. Nothing else, no cooking or anything. Just pure dusting, cleaning, floor washing etc.

Some english would be nice, obviously, but not essential.

If anyone can recommend a place to look or even a person, please let us know!

    Thanks

    Neph.
