  3. This has made the east side undesireable to live.During the building of this road,it was awful to drive over to the eastside for ages, now many of the holes in Siam Country Club rd are causing accidents too.The area is disgusting considering all the house constructions over the years and this must have an effect on the cost of property. No way would i live there and have to endure the drives west.

  4. simcity and patklang put me to shame, I waited until my 50th birthday to retire. That was a bit over 25 years ago. It has been a fantastic 25 years and if I had it to do over again the only thing I would change is perhaps doing it a bit earlier in life.

We retired with a comfortable amount of money to survive on, since we retired our net worth has tripled and that was accomplished mostly with buying and selling property in Australia. Have lived in LOS for 3 years and really enjoy it. Occasionally miss the availability of being able to buy most anything. Here you have to order and then wonder how much duty you are going to get stuck with when it arrives.

You need enough money to own everything you require and (depending on your lifestyle) 50,000 to 70,000 baht a month + entertainment + enough extra to save 10% of your income a year. Never pay interest, minimize taxes and don't buy anything you can't pay cash for. If you do that you should be able to have a comfortable and enjoyable retirement.

good points in your post.I see you live in Cha Am,whats it like to live there as 6 years in Pattaya may be enough for me.

  5. No regrets for me too.Retired at 49 and lived here for nearly 6 years with my cashed private pension. After renting my house for 3 years i sold up and put the money in a 5 years exceutive bond, but i am 1 million baht down so far, with 3.5 years left on the bond.Got a house,car,2 motorbikes and money in the bank too, with a pension + serps in 8 years time and an inheritance if i outlive my mum and dad, which i dont think of too much, else i will get very excited lol.

  6. How dare anyone who has emigrated to another country complain about the number of immigrants in our home country??! And then go on to complain that their own Thai (foreign) children cannot consider themselves as British?? :D

I also disagree that the 'real English are leaving in droves'. The percentage who leave are miniscule.

The tiny percentage of us who do leave have our own reasons - weather, financial, lifestyle, failure, etc., but anyone who leaves because they're worried about immigration......... :)

Reason for edit - sorry, I got a bit annoyed there!

I venture that there is a whole world of difference between the mainly economic refugees that have invaded the UK and the majority of ex-pats who choose to live here. I have not heard of one instance where a Brit has tried to change the nature and culture of this country whereas the Islamic revolution gathers pace back in my former home. The celebration of Christmas apparently offends the fanatic 'faithful', as does the ringing of church bells. Many Brits feel that tolerance and fair dealing is now a one way street. Certainly, the community spirit that I remember as a youngster is no longer there; peeps live behind locked doors now.

To pretend that Immigration policy isn't a major cause for concern in the UK ignores the facts. It is, and has been, for some time. An unwillingness to assimilate and merge into the population exacerbates the situation although it must be admitted that the insularity of Brits does nothing to help. Immigration is a problem in every First World country and is so even in a Third World country such as Thailand.

Isn't it strange that here in TV we are constantly prevailed upon to remember that we are guests in this country and to keep silent over the many injustices, instances of corruption and incompetence, yet those who have sought the haven of the UK are permitted, encouraged by the liberal chattering classes even, to give full rein to demanding that their preferences and interests are met?

The 'real' English have been leaving for one reason or another since 1945 - as have the 'real' Scots, Welsh and Irish. Simple research will prove that this is so. That more than 30% of State pensioners now live abroad was admitted by the UK Government some years ago. I venture that many more would do so if they had the financial resources. I am happy to be in that number that decided that they would spend their declining years somewhere else than the mare's nest that the UK has become.

absolutely spot on,my thoughts exactly.Maybe i will return when the race war starts,as i cant complain then not defend.

  7. i have lived in cities all over the world and bangkok is the one i disliked the most. seems like to each their own though.

I am the same, to me its a horrible, claustrophobic place. The expat community seem very stuck up too, maybe its just key board warrior stuff on here but they do seem to be a strange, racist bunch

Could be because they are bored or that most still work and its not a nice place to live and work, far too humid and filthy.

    Hmm, interesting observations.

Me - stuck up - no. Racist - no (xenophobic - yes, blame it on conditioning) strange - been called worse.

Most still work, yes farangs in BKK work - same thing happens in cities like London, Singapore, Hong Kong I would guess.

Claustrophopic - get yourself away from the skytrain for a while - or come out of the closet.

Humid- have you lived in Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong?

Filthy - my mind - yes at times - but keep a clean abode.

That was quite funny for a man u fan lol.

Seriously though Bangkok isnt the nices of places to live and the farangs seem to slip into this Bangkok mode of white is beautiful andknocking everything issan including how thick they are,not nice to here whether your gf/wife is Issan or not.To me its not attractive to splash whitener on your face, looking like Michael Jackson then knocking brown.Sorry no offense to some farang Bangkokonians but most of you have got a right chip on your shoulders, and yes us retirees had good jobs too,not all are tramps.

  8. Realy feel for Reading fans as you were a decent side in the Premiership for a while and i liked your style of football.Shame our man Kitson couldnt be arsed to run after a ball for you,as i thought he could have scored a few goals.

The problem you have now is keeping the momentum as many temas who have just failed in the playoffs have a downward spiral.

    GOOD LUCK READING

  9. A reprieve for the geordie boys, didnt watch the game as it was irrelevant to the Stokies, but did you deserve the win???

2 GAMES to go and you lot must be poo pooing your selves, very nerve wracking to be a Newcastle fan at the moment.I think west brom and m/boro are doomed,so you lot and Hull or your mates Sunderland for the drop.

If i was a betting man i think you will avoid relegation but i sense a mass exodus for your players, but that wont be a bad thing as no balls,no heart springs to mid.

    mai pen rai khap

    btw

you lovely non violent supporters go on youtube and see the scenes from Newcastle/Sunderland match, see how you outnumbered Sunderland and your chavys didnt even run.

  11. Dave Kitson has got to be one of the poorest buys for Stoke City.No effort and seems like he has been sulking because Tony Pullis wanted hom to work hard and track back,5.55 million down the pan and he hasnt done sweet fa for Reading on loan too.

  12. Notice Ronaldo was acting like a likkle baby again.Even the camera men though it was comical,as they get panning into his pathetic pimply face. The sooner this inbred is gone from the English game the better. They way he acted he could become a new trend in nodding dogs in back windows.

No respect for anybody andso selfish
