  1. Most new DVD players will play AVI without conversion. Just use Master Format when you burn to the DVD. They will also play from a USB stick so no need for DVD.

It you really need to turn back time to DVD format ConvertX is a good program but not cheap.

Cheers, thanks for the good advice.

  2. My wife and I want to go to on a holiday to Oz to see my brother. I am a Kiwi (NZ) so I have no problem. Is it hard for my wife (Thai) to get a tourist visa. There is a mob in Pattaya that said that they can gurantee a visa, but for a whopping 45000bahts. Any suggestions or recommendations.

    Thanks

  3. What would a typical punishment be for .6 grams of heroine? I mean *typical*, not what the law book says. Anyone know? It's obviously a small quantity for personal use. He's not charged with being a drug smuggler or seller.

    The law says:

    (41)

Section 67 Any person who possesses narcotics of category I without permission and in

quantity computed to be pure substances, or in number of used dosage, or in net weight, that does not

reach the quantity prescribed in Section 15 paragraph three, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term of

one year to ten years, or to a fine of twenty thousand to two hundred thousand baht, or to both.

Probably going through the legal process actually would be the appropriate thing to do. Speaking of laws, I thought this forum had laws against discussing the breaking of the law? And loads of people are telling him to run? Interesting.

Right. but the OP states that he is being *CHARGED* with 3.6 Grams. So does being charged with more than 3 grams put you into the trafficing/ distribution tier? Regardless, I agree 100%. Going through the legal process is the appropriate thing to do. I believe the old adage, "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time" really applies here.

    -Mestizo

That amount (3.6g) does not constitute trafficking. For first-offense simple possession, the court usually orders a fine rather than imprisonment. The fine is actually relatively low by western court standards, but the lawyer fees are not.

Response from a family member who is in the field of prosecution of drug crimes in Thailand.

a.) Admit you are an addict, you will be sentenced to rehab for less than a year.

b.) Small amount- fine and 2 years probation.

The Thai jails are full. Like in the west, they do not want to sentence small time users/possessors to jail time.

This is from the mouth of the lead prosecutor from the ONCB just 15 minutes ago.

    Fact not fiction.

  4. This is not a scam, These ladies work dammed hard for their money and make a honest living. I could see your point if they showed up demanding some crazy price like 500 baht or something but being charged a normal price for delivery is not a big deal, no need to classify this as a scam.

Most Thai families have more than two people living in the house so its normal to have a little bag of drinks dropped off. If you don't want it just tell them you don't want it, no big deal. We used to have a delivery of a whole bag full every few days and it was quite nice to have them in the fridge.

One of my best friends died a few years back and his wife has no other income other than selling these little drinks so I have first hand knowledge of how hard she works and how little she makes off it. I'm quite proud of her for being a good mom and raising up a kid in some pretty dramatic circumstance without having to bend over for her income.

If any of you guys has a chance to buy a few of these silly drinks to support a hard working and honest local you should consider a very small investment into the community. Please reserve the term "Scam" for the true "Scams" which typically involve hookers, the police, or degenerates, not industrious moms who are sending their kids to school by working for a living.

Most guys here support working girls and their extended familys - so cut the selfrightious lecturing.

You seem to miss the point - what would you do if some poor milkman in England left 4 pints of unwanted milk o your doorstep each day and wanted you to pay :)

PS Yakult is good for you. I would buy it if they deliverd to my door - if they asked me first.

What a load of horse sh#t, Yakult is full of sugar. In that tiny small little bottle (65ml's) there is a massive 11.5grams of sugar, that ism 2 heaped tablespoons of sugar. Before you say it is "good for you" do your research. Yakult is garbage.

  5. Hey,

I am a qualified Elecrician and fully trained Air conditioning and Refridgeration Engineer, I am wondering about what other tradesmen do for work in Thailand due to the working restrictions, is working on Oil Rigs possible ? Or other alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bailly

Don't waste your time. Work in a real country where you will earn an income comparative to your skills. Then come here to spend that money. I just paid an "electrician" 250baht ($7) for a couple of hours work around the home.

No, it is a SCAM. In a real country, that kind of activity would be illegal. I would have told them to F'off and then slammed the door in their face.

Ah, you are the lovable type I presume

Come to my house to SCAM me, you will get the full force of it.

  7. Once on a ferry a boy throw a silver bag into the sea. I came to him and told him very friendly where the bin is.

His mother came and said, I don't have to worry, the bag was empty. I, friendly again, repeated my hint with the bin. Next followed a cold, sharp look by her and they rushed away insulted.

How dare you make that poor lady lose face. Should have thrown little johnny overboard - no loss.

  9. Most other countries would show this gent some compassion, howevewr thailand will treat him like a burmese illegal and jail him i suspect, sad case at his age and no real home,.either way i feel the only possible way for him is back to taiwan and apply for a visa there, . :D

Could you please provide some documentary evidence of your claim.

The cases that I now of a perosn being put into dentention until the overstay was settled was when a person was caught with an overstay and in most of those cases the person was involved in another crime.

I simply asked for some proof is that to much to ask. The poster made a very strong claim derogatory to Thailand in that he would be treated like an illegal alien and I asked for some proof. A news article even a post on the forum that has some proof to substantiate it.

    Can you supply any?

No, the poster made a strong claim, that was pretty much spot on. I don't think too many people who disagree with what the poster asserts.

  10. I'm learning that our ego based life, as we experience it, is impermanent & conditioned.

Our ego is bound by many things which in reality are meaningless when measured against the permanent & unconditioned state of enlightentment.

Having said that, ego based as we find ourselves, isn't it far easier for a poor person, with no possessions and nothing to look forward to but a wretched existence, to embrace monkhood, than it is for a wealthy farang who owns property, enjoys a relatively high income and yields power?

Are many westerners who take to monkhood either without possessions or are aged and close to their impending mortality.

My mother who doesn't understand Buddhism thinks that if I embrace it fully, I'm becoming a bum.

She believes home ownership, assets & assuring ones future income as very important.

You should ask all the Monks that I see daily around Wat Computer Plaza.

  11. RUBBISH this is the sort of problem , that the big and powerfull , people in thailand ,should be throwing there weight behind ,and QUICK BLOODY SHARP,the country is turning into an open cess pitt ,one that W.H.O will be putting on thier most dangerous list. if somthing is not done about it , the trains dump raw sewage on the line ,the ferries dump it in the sea ,the list goes on and on and on why in gods name , does,nt someone at the top start trying to drum some bloody sence into this lot ??????????????????????? HURRY UP,there are many beutifull places in the world with sunshine, to choose from ,so be warned THAILAND,

Dude, Thailand is probably the extent of your worldly travels I think. Go to India and then you will see what filth is. Thailand may have some problems with regards to waste management, but India certainly takes the cake.

  13. them batons are very good.I smacked a dog once and the thing screamed like a pig, think i broke its nose, bloody mongeral.

Patklang, you forgot the rest of your story. I am sure that it would go something like this

them batons are very good.I smacked a dog once and the thing screamed like a pig, think i broke its nose, bloody mongeral. I then went home and gave my misses a good and proper beating for not having dinner cooked on time. I also whaled down hard on the kids for making too much racket whilst I tried to watch the football whilst sucking back on my 10th Chang.
