  1. Hi all, this is a serious thread. I've heard from several farangs, with thai girlfriends from poorer backgrounds, who face the moral dilemma of wanting to move on to other relationships but they still have enough concern for their former partner to not want them thrown back into the ruthless life of being poor and thai and alone. If the girl isn't particularly interested in finding new love or a new bf, I've been wondering if adult adoption isn't the solution for the two people- it allows the two to still have a conceptually close relationship (though obviously it'd be a kind of weird parent-child-romance thing) but they wouldn't actually live together (or necessarily in the same country) and it allows the parent to have the freedom to explore other people... without the girl having to worry about her future. I'm thinking of this adoption being a 10 years max type interim-transition deal, not permanent- obviously some women seriously would want to start a family, at which point the parent would probably want to let go of her.

I know this is all really weird sounding, but I'm not being trollish, I'm seriously trying to think of a solution for people in financially-disparate relationships, or maybe even for myself if anything turns sour in the future. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences? thanks.

This would have to be one of the most stupidest proposals I have ever heard off. People adopt children, not ex girlfriends. You should really seek serious mental help treatment. Thailand is definately not the place for you.

  2. Thanks for all the advice guys. I really want to have a baby with her and we had planned to marry next year after a couple more visits for her in the UK. We needed to know if she could live in the cold and adapt to the culture without turning into a recluse. I'm still not sure about this. I just want her to be happy and to live a full life. She's only 23 (I'm 27).

I love her and she loves me. I'm naturally sceptical and inquisitive enough to know she really does now but the time is not right to have a baby. Yes I know you can never be prepared enough or have enough money but I want my baby to stay with both parents every day. To learn everything about both our histories. For both of us to see the first steps and hear the first words. But if I cannot earn enough working in Thailand to live there and she has not proved to me that she can be happy long term in England then I can't be sure our baby would have a chance.

Take the next few days for instance. I really don't like being outside in this cold and I've lived and worked in it for a long time. She would struggle to get out of bed in a morning, never mind go outside the house in it. She just hibernates. What sort of life is that?....

You have a good positive attitude .. I am sure it will all work out for you. Best of luck to you

  3. What CRAP..... Like the concept, but was bored sh*tless after 3mins.

The rolling commentary is 12th grade. Obviously zero thought has gone into your project.

Going back to the drawing board, do a bit of research, have your camera better placed/focused and you will do alot better.

Quote of the week ... "You can tell they are legit CD's because they come in cases"... Does that mean my Rolex from Patpong is legit as well....

  4. Hello to all!

...just wondering... does someone knows if it is easier for a thai to enter mexico on a tourist visa than entering canada or the USA?

I am asking because i know a thai friend who was refused a tourist visa to Canada even though she is married to a Canadian, she is a business owner and a land owner. Never been a "lady of the night" too!

Thank you to anyone who can help.

    bye

    alexboy

Interesting angle ... Cant get a visa to the US, so try and get one to Mexico and then slip across the border in the dead of night. Let me know how you go.

    Muchas gracias senor

  5. 1. We have recently discovered wholesale theft in our supermarket with colussion between supliers and employees. Some of this relates to outdated products which will be removed from the shelves. Currently we are restocking with new trustwortyl suppliers. This is why there is a shortage. This will take a little time. If there is something special that you would like to have please let me know.

    2. The quality of our beef remains as high as you can find in Thailand. New management in the butcher shop should result in a full stock of beef. This will take a little time. We also have new management in our bakery and hope to improve by getting the old products back on the shelves.

    3. It appears that the international arrival of tourist now is down about 60-70-%. This is also confirmed by some of the international fast food houses. The 5 star hotels seem to be doing reasonable.

    4. We have to work harder and do better to get our situation back up to our standard. Our staff has been trimmed in line with tourism.

Thanks for your comments and constructive thoughts.

Don gets 10/10 for customer service. Addressing the issues, and not ignoring them. If only a few Thai business could adopt the same.

    Well Done Don's ....

  6. Lamai ringroad already well flooded.

How is Chaweng / Maenam ?

    Improved drainage desperately needed.

I was in Samui three years ago, same problem, whole Island flooded, went on for weeks. Thais wont spend money on infrastructure... Glad I left, Samui was and is now a toilet.... Good riddance to the place and the corrupt administration there.

  7. So if you are here on holiday and don't drink it won't bother you. Chat somewhere else.

If you live here you already knew the answer.

It seemed to me another [oh the bars are closed thread] this is a bit different.

    Life don't revolve around bars.

Dude Chill Out .. He asked a reasonable question ...

  8. her THAI credit card was stolen a while ago and she didnt handle it well, she has to pay the debt now. She had a monthly income of over 100 000 baht a month back then so it really wasnt her fault. Also a signature is easy to spoof, its on the back of the card?

You think that would affect the visa process or they wont hear about it since its a very low sum and not with her main bank? it will be paid in half already

I just have no idea what to put as a reason to come to canada on her application, i dont want to write down that she will visit me as others have said it's the wrong way to go?

I agree with Issan Lawyer, your posts make no sense, you are just going off in all manner of directions .. If you want be to help you, you have to be more clearer. "She had a monthly income of over 100 000 baht a month back then so it really wasnt her fault". PLEASE tell me that you didnt fill in her visa application...

  9. I am having a few problems with Skype. Perhaps someone knows the answer.

I have a Skype account with a 'Skype In' number, so people can call me on a local number, and it comes through to my PC through. No problems so far.

However, when I try to call forward to my Thai mobile AIS, I am damned if I can do the setting properly. All I want is for it to go to my mobile, not the Skype voice mail. If I dont answer my mobile, then I want to it to go to my mobile voicemail.

Am I the only one with problems with Skype call forwading????

  10. What a difference a year makes.

Getting paid in $US was a very painfull ecperience last year.

I would watch the greenback value falling against just about every currency in the world week after week after week.

Only 3 months ago I was in Australia on holiday and got nearly 1:1 for my $US. Now if I TT'd US$100k over there I would get AUD$150k. Sweet.

But look at the situation now...

The pound is in freefall and the euro is a basket case.

I just love greenback :o The currency all others are measured by.

I just knew she would climb back to her rightfull spot if we waited long enough.

    God bless America.

    Long live the Allmighty dollar.

God bless America :D "It is such a wonderful country, that is why I love in Thailand"

  11. I'm hearing you mate.

I only arrived just over a month ago.

I hope to stay for 12 to 18 months with

a view of possibly making it permanent.

I budgeted on 25/26 Baht to the dollar but

it has really died in the arse.

I'm on a fixed income while I'm here but it's

still a big drop. Always have the credit cards

to fall back on if I have to but at least it will

tell me what I actually do need to live here

    full time.

As they say about everything, it's all about

    timing.

Still, we're both enjoying it here so far.

    Regards

    Will

    Thanks.

When it dropped under 30 a few months ago, I did my long term budget on it being 25. I figured back then that there would be no way it would get that low. Oh Boy how wrong was I. 20.8 is killing me.

  12. I feel for you and other aussies over there atm. My wife and I HAD to come back here in NSW in Dec last year and we brought some cash back with us and got 31 something baht to the dollar and as you said, its low 20's now. A few of my Oz friends in CM will be hurtin pretty badly as I know they rely on money transfers to live on. One mate last week even lamented that he might have to come home as the cash isn't going as near as far as he thought it would. And on top of the exchange rate/financial crisis my wife's sister said that everything (foodwise) has gone up dramatically since we came back! Not a good omen.................................

    Thanks Wadsy,

I am sure many are feeling the pinch, and not just the aussies.

  13. Tucking into a meal from Pulcinella da Stefano right now - salade niçoise (or whatever they call it in Italian), fish in white wine and garlic sauce, + vegetables.

Arrived in 20 minutes, and absolutely delicious. Great service as ever buzzer101.

Have used the great services of mealsonwheels4u approximately a dozen times now (always from Stefano's). Food has always arrived hot to my door. Delivery guys are first class as well. AAA+++ Buzzer101

  14. I know most currencies are getting a beating at the moment (pound, euro etc) but would like to know what fellow Aussies in CM think about the massive AUD freefall.

Back in mid July I got 32.8THB to the AUD. Today, it is trading at 20.8THB, down almost 37% in four months.

Does anyone have views on where it will end?

Also can someone tell me how the THB is maintaining its strength during the world financial crisis.
