1. I'm not sure if it was the Pattaya Today, but I read a couple of weeks ago, in a Pattaya newspaper, that instead of a weekly newspaper it's changed to a 2-week newspaper.

The advertisers will be compansated with an extended period of advertising, but again: Not sure whether it was the PTN.

  2. IF you have to perform a driving test and you don't have a car with you, it's possible to rent one on-site.

Most of them are Toyota VIOS - automatic and will cost approx. THB 300 for the 'exam'.

Beware: if you would like to use this service, be early, because they only take 30 candidates per day.

Looks like a good business to have for a Vios, rent it out 30 time a day for 300 baht a time (9,000 baht \ day approx 200,000 baht \ month)

Forgot to mention that they have about 5 or 6 cars available; so far for the Pope's pension-planning.

  4. 1) was this a prepaid SIM?

    2) May I ask how the phone was 'stolen'?

It's more important to know WHERE the phone was stolen.

Visit the nearest phone shops and pawn shops.

I'm not sure about the current technology, but maybe it is possible to track your phone down with the help of the EIMI number. (see manual).

There you need the help of the manufacturer of the phone. (maybe I watched to much "Wire")

  5. By the way I flushed the phone down the toilet in a bar, I was answering a call when in the bog and with 1 hand not free attempted 'a one handed place behind the ear action' then shake a few times at which point the phone left my ear and went down with the flushing action. Not smart and funny at time but still a load of phone numbers I can not retrieve.......Had some good numbers in there as well..

Contact the call center of your provider and explain what happened.

If the contacts were on your SIM, they may be able to retrieve 60-70% of your phonebook.

  6. Ha, your are promoting yourself while I just try to illustrate to the inexperienced Falang what's going to happen to him if he decide to build his home here.

Like you point out yourself "your best Thai builder is not cheap" and you are managing him...

Let me make my point, building significantly below market value is only advisable to the ones with experience, speaking the language and not the faint hearted. Getting a falang with that experience like you to manage it is the better option... but not that cheap...

I' sure that you client will be happy while in Athens, he's in fact lucky not go for a Thai-Thai builder.

Just stand by it: that in today's buyers market it's not worth all the hassle to try to build. Hmm maybe renovating yes.

All my builders have there own clients as well, which I do not get involved in, I only manage projects for clients what intially came to me, even then some clients only want a builders introduction & not a project manager, so I do not get to run every job.

Like any profesion worlwide, there are good & bad, Thailand & Pattaya is no diffrent, there are good & bad farangs as well I'm afraid to say.

    What are your professional qualifications?

Also, if you insure on the basis that the work will be up to "high standards", which I believe were your words, who determines whether or not the works are up to the requisite standard? Knowing insurance companies quite well, I would be very surprised if it is easy to pursue a claim simply on the basis that the works are not up to the standard you were told they would be.

I see that there has been no reply to my queries, which were hardly unreasonable. I wonder why???

Because of the simple fact, that posters are allowed to post positive posts on good construction companies, but aren't allowed to post negative on them.

    Forgot the expression for it!

  7. What is a reasonable price to the buyer and to the developer are two totally different things.Prices off a flyer and anyone now living on that development, and now trying to sell could well make you a huge saving. One development is now down to under a third of the initial asking price.

Would you be so kind as to identify this property? Thanks.

Was up around the lake area,in the Pattaya People supplement two weeks ago, main paper had it at 1.5 the supplement had it at down to 775 "now under offer" the week later. Brand new. One of those Horseshoe Point houses went from 10 million down to 4 and a half million for a quick sale recently too,

Loximar or something like in the e mail address, they advertise all over the place,so not hard to find.Tell them the supplement price, not the main paper price or you will call me a liar.

Nobody will call you a liar, because whatever price you say, it'll be allright!

Real Estate market can't be compared with the Western RE market.

I know examples of high-rises in Bangkok (to be built).

The units in the high rises changes 3 or 4 times from owner before the project was completed.

Price started at 100% and the last buyer paid 400%

But also on a small scale: a friend of mine made a down payment of THB 200,000 on a shop-house in Muang Chonburi.

Within 2 weeks he found someone who was interested in the shop-house and sold his down-payment for THB 300,000.

    THB 100,000 in 2 weeks.......not bad.

The going rate/price for condo's is between THB 35,000 and THB 350,000 per m2.

THB 35,000/m2 for a low rise, standard, not furnished, dark-side condo,up to

    THB 350,000/m2 for a high rise, luxury, furnished, beach-front + A-location, condo.

  8. Did have a similar experience last week at the new "Koncept" furniture store along Sukhumvit.

Went in at 6:30 p.m. and was looking for some small bits and pieces.

There were 6 or 7 staff members talking behind the counter at the entrance of the store and one staff member was helping another customer.

Usually, upon entering of a store like this you do have the full attention of at least one employee, but in this case I went through the store and nobody in sight.

I waited for approx. 5 minutes at some piece of furniture I'd like to buy, but no chance, except the employee who was already occupied......she tried to help me, but couldn't get away from her customer...........

........I finally I left the store.

I bought my stuff now at Index.

  9. Got a phone call last Saturday: A friendly guy from Cali Wow, offering a 2 -week free-member ship. Would like to see me on Sunday...........

I told him that I wasn't really interested.

2 hours later, same Saturday........a friendly lady from Cali Wow phoned me............offered me a 1 week free membership. I told her, that I talked to a male colleague earlier......offering me 2 weeks, but anyway........no time and no interest.

    "Leally?"

    They're desperate.

  10. I'm using Tippmanee (TMN) at the moment.

Quality is similar compared to Sophon

TMN has 92 channels and Sophon 63

Rate: TMN THB 350-THB 400 against Sophon THB 300-THB 350

Installation fee: TMN THB 1500 against Sophon THB ?

The owners of TMN are the son and daughter of the Sophon owners.

Won't be surprised if the hardware is one and the same company.

If TMN covers yoiur area, it's always a better deal

  11. Well, here is my 2 cents worth.

Well done. Great night watching the firewoks from a boat in Pattaya harbour.

I don't care whos money, but it had to be spent. While there are things that also need to be done, tourisim should not be neglected because there is a hole in the ground. No tourism equals no money, and it is one area that needs stimulation right now,and maybe that hole can wait 5 more minutes whle the city gets some dollars coming back into it.

I have 1 major crticism. There was next to no information about the proceedings last night. The City Hll website said to phone the call centre, and the call centre knew nothing. Come on people, learn from other places that do it well such as the new years fireworks in Sydney.

Doing it half right is a waste of time.

Yes, it's good that something was done for tourism, but referring to the OP's infrastructure: I guess that half of the tourists spent in their car during the fireworks, due to the poor infra structure.

  12. Every bigger motorbike shop in Pattaya has 2nd hand bikes in all shapes and sizes.

Most bigger motorbike shops are owned by Mityon.

HQ's on junction South Pattaya Road and 3rd Road.

Usually you'll get 1-3 months warrantee and please use it!!

Try to make a trial run and let the bike check thoroughly!! (brakes, suspension, carburator/injection, compression). Will cost you approx. THB 200.

Of course your GF will tell you to buy a new bike............what would you ask for?

Finally, yes there's always a risk of buying "a cat in a bag" (Dutch saying), but hey it's a bike.

Price indication: an automatic, 4 yo, in good shape, should cost more than 50% of its new price at THAT time.

  13. every package, parcel or what so ever which is imported by DHL, UPS, FedEx or any other transporter, including post-forwarders will be checked randomly.

Apart from documents and values under THB 1,000, customs aren't bothered. For evert other parcel they will do their best to make the most of it.

It depends on the description which should be on the sending-document. A t-shirt is definetely cheaper than a football-shirt AND more chance that it will arrive safely. (if sent by regular mail)

  14. So rather than performing their police duties, they waste their time doing this nonsense. (Throws hands and the air and sighs)

Are people here so entranced in negativity that they can't escape no matter what

This is excellent PR and lighthearted, is it so difficult to see the good of things...............makes me wonder if we have people on this forum that just sit hour after hour day after day and post the same negative crap about the country they chose to be guests in over and over, sort of reminds me of the polar bear footage I saw once where it was standing in it's cage just swinging it's body back and forth obviously not happy about where it was but didn't know how to get out of it.

    :clap2:

  15. And please go to a reliable and certified dentist.

Not very long ago (last year?), a young girl died because she wore dental braces from some kind of so called "dentist".

That's why your son may be scared of it.

  16. A stout honorable ex military type chap I had the privilege to meet in a bar, where he kindly let me buy him quite a few beers, told me that were going to complete the elevated expressway from Banga Na take it through Pattaya along the original planned route, onto Rayong and build sky train above, sooner rather than later - :whistling:

Motor way 7 is what they call an elevated expressway, and yes it's already built and open for a number of years now. The part referring to a sky train, I think he drank one too many beers.

    Barry

Motorway 7 is not the elevated one.

The elevated expressway goes from Chonburi to Bang Na.

A high speed train connection from BKK to Pattaya / Rayong would be excellent, for tourism and business. Much more important than this sick idea of building a monorail in Pattaya.

Yes indeed, the elevated highway is the BangNa-Trad Highway or #3 and end near Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate. The initial plan was to connect this elevated highway with the #7 which means that this 'unfinished' highway will run along/above the Chonburi bypass.

A highspeed train is planned over the next few years. The Thai government has a budget for 4 high speed train connections from Bangkok to Trad, Udon Thani, Chiang Mai and the South v.v.

Bangkok - Trad will be the first to be realized.............., but when?
