  1. Depends on the zip-code:

asaik 20260 will go to the new post office Na-Jomtien along Sukhumvit near the interesction with Chayapruk II and 20150 will end up in the Banglamung (Naklua) postoffice.

DO NOT wait too long with the recovery of your parcel, because they usually hold it for 14 days and than it will be "returned to the sender".

  2. Same, we have used our own cloth bags for over 16 years in various countries. Every little helps but we are definitely the oddities amongst the masses.

Could simply charge for plastic bags as they did in HK and now China, that tends to make people think more-maybe! :whistling:

No oddity. Charging for plastic bags is common use in a lot of countries. Where I'm from they charge Euro 0.25 - 0.50 for a mutli-useable plastic bag, up to Euro 1 for a so called "big shopper". A shopping bag with reinforced textile.

Especially in the Western European countries, there's deposits on glass bottles, alu cans, pvc bottles.

There are a lot of ways to control the flood-of-waste.

Regarding Thailand: Next step should be the polystyreen food-containers.

  3. Thanks Jimmyd and Aussiechick!

Jiu-Jitsu - Im still on Diamond Beach Hotel walking street till the end of the month and wanted to extend it for a month but my girlfriend says move into an apartment with her and give her the money I save on the hotel :(

She liked Nirun cos of the swimming pool in the building and plenty of shops downstairs. Ive got two offers for condos there for 4k a month and they were pretty decent.

I also have an option of Day Night 2 near Tuckom which is pretty reasonable and more like a hotel than an apartment - 7k per month or 5k longtime. She likes this as well but its slowly creeping over my expected budget! Ive got a couple of days yet to make a decision.

Well if I had the choice between Nirun and a condo on Day-Night.............Day-Night would be the place.

Friendship around the corner, Walking Street on walking distance, South Pattaya night market around the other corner........

  4. Moved in into Vela Casa along Naklua road last weekend.

The Vela Casa management offers Kirz Internet through a wireless connection at THB 990 per month.

The average speed is 1MB and the connection is of a low quality.

Probably I'm forced to use this service, because the condo-management (some big developer in Pattaya) doesn't allow other services, as with UBC: no dishes allowed on the balconies, so now I do have TMN, which is luckily not bad at all. But just the fact that this building management decides in what way I am allowed to gather information p*sses me off big time.

I did send some mails to Kirz about this matter, but until no repsonse. Probably a visit to their office on Tepprasit will help (not).

  5. Through Thai contacts at work who live near the scene, it transpires this was a naked dead body dumped on the road and subsequently run over by at least one large container lorry. One might speculate it was a murder victim if this is true but who is to know. It has not been reported in the press, local or otherwise.

Well, that proves that at least a few people must have seen what happened amd still it took a long time for the emergency services to arrive.

  6. OK Moo9, next time you are in a situation like this (with or without damage tot your car), stop, phone the police and wait until they arrive.

Please keep us informed on what will happen next...........

  7. so you drove past a mangled corpse and didn't call the emergency services but went on about your errand.... nice..

    Yes.

And that's the best possible thing to do.

Sure, not nice and even in some Western countries you will be prosecuted if you don't take the appropriate action, but in Thailand: Keep on moving and try not get involved in any way!

  8. Bang Saray is approx. 20 mins from Pattaya to the South and Bang Saen is approx. 45 mins from Pattaya to the North both via the #3 - Sukhumvit.

Bang Saray/Baan Amphur do have quiet, nice and clean beaches. No vendors and plenty of food stalls/restaurants.

Bang Saen is a typical Thai beach resort. Not many hotels but the beach is huge (in length) and parking is usually no problem.

Public transport to Bang Saray - take a WHITE songtaew - THB 10 or THB 20 o/w

Pulblic transport to Bang Saen - take a bus from one of the major intersections along Sukhumvit in Pattaya and get off in Bang Saen, just pass the Mongkon Market - it's at the traffic lights outbound Bang Saen - there you can take a songtaew to the beach. - total cost approx. THB 70 o/w

The "SeaWorld" is an acquarium located on the premises of Burapa University. Don't know about visiting hours.

Indeed, try to avoid Bang Saen during weekends and holidays; loads of Bangkokians around.

  9. Got connected yesterday as a replacement of UBC. UBC dishes aren't allowed on our building.

TMN has got 92 channels; the first 40 mainly in Thai language (Thai and foreign channels) the rest is a good mix of:

English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, French, Japanese, Indian and Russian.

    Plenty of Sports Channels

Cost: entrance fee THB 1500 and THB 400 per month if you pay per 6 months.

Quality (after a quick chack): Reasonable. The status bar on my tv shows in most cases "reasonable/fair" and even "good"

  10. Another reason for the congestion is a huge hole in Sukhumvit just before the junction with Pattaya Tai.

From 4 lanes to 2 lanes...........

The junctions Siam CC/Sukhumvit and Pattaya Klaang/Sukhumvit are always congested.

  11. I was going to write about this phenomenon a few weeks ago, when I was driving to Bangkok one Saturday morning, and I noticed on the other side of the road that it was jammed pack full of cars coming towards Pattaya.

This was at the height of the troubles, and I have never seen so much traffic backed up on Highway 7, almost all the way to Bangkok. At the toll booths, it was stationary for miles.

Much of this traffic ends up in Jomtien as the middle class, car-owning Thais seem to prefer it to central Pattaya.

Theppraya road is always jammed with cars at weekends and on long, (holiday) weekends it is even worse. Before they finally finished the road, it was an absolute nightmare, and they often had to get the cops out to ease the traffic flows.

All these cars are driven by Thais, many with families on board, and all the vehicles have Bangkok number plates.

This seems to have been an increasing trend for some time, and I can only imagine that since the reds took to the Bangkok streets, many Thais use any opportunity to get away for a while.

Many spend the day on Jomtien beach and then dine at the sea food restaurants at the far end of Jomtien beach. On some weekend evenings, it is so busy there that it is difficult to find a table, and all the customers are Thai, many having driven there in very upmarket cars.

There is another thread which bemoans the lack of tourists in Pattaya, and I have no doubt that this is generally true, but from what I have observed, there is a huge influx of Bangkok Thais at weekends, many driving here in their own vehicles.

Who was it who posted recently that no respectable, Thai would be seen dead in Pattaya? :)

A couple of weeks ago? Must have been the 1 May weekend. A long weekend with a lot of trouble in Bangkok.

  12. Usually, bedroom doors are from the "loose-fit-type" of doors.

Take an old credit card and try to stick it between the door and the post, there where the locking-pin falls into the door post.

The card is just flexible enough to find its way to the locking in.

Did it several times and always with succes.

  13. Physical correction (hitting) of schoolchildren is not longer allowed by law since a couple of years.

The Ministry, responsible for private schools in this area, is located in Laem Chabang.

A refund of fees etc. might be out of the question, because the school management has done its 'best' to solve your problem.

If you take your daughter from the school, then that's your decision.

That's not my opinion, but it might be the reason the school will give for not refunding any money.

  14. My last rented place (from a UK owner), I paid one month deposit.

I warned the owner 2 months before I was about to leave.

On the final day, the owner came, inspected the property; everything was okay.

I left all the utility bills (water, telephone and electricity) and I paid the landlord/owner the average amounts of these bills that would come up.

The owner refunded my 100% there and then.

I rented a condo once, deposit THB 5000 (standard amount). Rent was monthly, but I stayed for almost one year.

On the check out day, water and electric were deducted (I added a final cleaning) from the deposit and the rest was given back.

I have never encountered any problems with deposits or the returning of them.

My only rule is: If the place is not furnished (or minimal) I only pay one month deposit.

2 months is the absolute max.

BTW.....slightly off topic: Last week I was searching for a house and found one at Chok Chai 3 (Soi Kao Noi).

My Thai partner phoned the landlord and the going rental rate was THB 8,000 per month.

That sounded fair (was a small house) and we invited the landlord to come and show us the place.

Upon arrival, the landlord got me in sight and asked my partner: "Farang will stay here?" Answer was: "Yes!"

"Oh, but than the rent will be THB 9,000! Farang have enough money, no problem!"

We checked out the house........there was absolutely NOTHING in there only a HUGE fishtank in the tiny living room.

The landlord did have the nerves to ask if the tank could stay there. I told her: "Sure, no problem, that will cost you THB 4,000 per month!" and left, leaving the landlord speachless.

  15. at first the Government didn't do anything .. n let the buildings burn n ppl to gather as mobs .... (which made the ordinary ppl life miserable)

now as an over reaction .. they are putting curfews to enhance the miseries ....

    THANK YOU GOVERNMENT >. :S

IF the govt would have doe something after 2 days, everybody would have shouted: Bwaahhh, over-reaction.

NOW they try to avoid further problems and now it is: Bwaaahhh, over-reaction

  16. Just did South Pattaya to Swampy in 70 mins, no delays and my partner did return journey in same time once I'd been dropped off. Cant comment on closer to Bangkok.

I'll fill in the gap between Swampie and BKK: No problems, light traffic, gas stations, 7/11's closed and that was from Pattanakarn/Srinagarin Road to the exit Chachoengsao on the #7.

  17. People are concerned for their safety right now and are looking for information.

Not only that, there are a lot of factories now trying to decide how and when to send their shift workers home tonight as clear information about the curfew applying to Chonburi is not available.

Amazing, all day and all night the Thai are watching TV and are listening to the radio. Wasn't there nobody listening around 4 p.m. when the gov't announced the curfew in BKK and 15 other provinces?

  18. The night market is OK for me but what is behind me is that shopowners here in Thailand always think that they also own the sidewalk and even the road in front of their shop. Why is it allowed to put obstacles on the sidewalk or prohibit people from parking in front of their shop on the public road?

Can't they just keep their business on their own premises?

Parking may be allowed: depends on the colors painted on the sidewalk (red-white or yellow-white). If there is no color, parking is allowed.

Using the sidewalk isn't allowed, but as long as nobody is complaining..............
