  1. - The Rendezvous is a place that understands how to serve a great western dinner. i think i've only ordered the pork chop dinner there, but it's huge, the fries/chips/mashed are plenty, fresh vegetables and a fuc_king gravy boat for each person. not many restaurants will hook you up with a gravy boat.

    Agreed!

  2. It's about time! Totally justified for all the world to see.

A message to the good people of Thailand.

I can tell you with confidence the vast majority of foreigners support your honorable PM Abhisit in his valiant effort to fight anarchic red shirt's illegal attempt at revolution and the rule of a violent mob. Good luck to and best hopes for a PEACEFUL resolution.

    <deleted>! who appointed you spokesman?

The yellows occupied giv offices for months with no comeback. The reds go in for 10 minutes and a state of emergency is declared.

This obvious inequality is precisely why they are demonstrating and this is one farang that understands.

somo: married to a red shirt wife from Isaan (probably Phrae)? Wait and see... and don't give these red primates too much credit; you may regret afterwards (and that will not even take very long). Please moderate your language. It's true that the vast majority of foreigners are supporting the actual government. Admit this. :)

Geography lesson for you. Phrae Province IS NOT in Isaan

  3. I don't know about you but if there's a professional film team out there making a movie, I would say that it's not open yet.

But as they say in Thailand, 'Up to you.'

I don't know about you also, but as far as i remember you are staying very far from Pattaya isn't it?

By the way ever heard about a temporary closure of a road due to circumstances e.g. making of a movie?

Where I live has no relevance and I have been in-an-out of Pattaya 3 times in the past coupla weeks, do my own driving so not talking out of a hole in my arse completely. The Sukhumvit end looks 'open' but when the concrete barriers remained at the Rayong intersection end, I pretty much sussed out that it was not open yet.

You can't temporarily close something that hasn't been opened yet. That's just plain silly.

Right now you darksiders are getting a huge woody when driving in and out of town on the new spur because you think you are the first one in on a big secret. If you want a clue as to when it's actually open, watch for tour buses and sip-lors... lot's of 'em, using the Sukhumvit entrance ramp. Then you will know it's open. Right now it's the odd car and pickup driving up there with the either the deer-in-the-headlights look (local driver) or the sh!t eating grin (farang knowitall).

As mentioned before, once it's open AND the tollbooths are working, the post count from the darkside tribes is going to go through the roof.

Use it at least twice daily. Plenty of tour buses using it.

  4. Yup, I guess it's NOT open yet. But carry on anyway... just don't expect any sympathy if/when you get hit by another moron driver or given a ticket just because the traffic cop felt like it.

So you are speaking from first hand experience? You know that as a fact? I wondered why the Mayor, Kun OpeningOfAnEnvelope had not personally hand delivered my invitiation to the opening ceremony. There I was feeling rejected :)

And, you don't need to be on that particular road to be hit by a moron driver in Thailand....

  5. This is a mint condition example of this extremely versatile L Series Canon Lens with two modes of Image Stabilization. Always fitted with a Hoya UV filter for protection it has been rarely used and like all my equipment treated and stored with utmost care.

For specifications have a look at the following link:

    http://www.canon.com.sg/p/EN/321-EF-Lenses...-5-5-6L-IS-USM/

Comes complete with front and rear caps and Canon EW-83G petal hood.

I am selling to fund the purchase of some primes. Any test/inspection welcome.

    Please PM me.

  6. Actually lots of people, believe it or not, like to know the air-con status of a resto in Pattaya...a place where the temps are/will be near 100 degrees for the next few months . If there is a proper wood-burning pizza oven in there, you can count on maybe 110 degrees.

That is a hoot about serving breakfast...just not in the morning :) Maybe it's a comment on those that eat such breakfasts don't themselves manage to get out of bed till the afternoon.

I always wondered what 'All day breakfast' meant. Thanks for answering this one! :D

All day breakfast - as long as you don't want it in the morning at err.... breakfast time....

  7. Who knows if it's a good place to eat. All we have so far is one person's opinion.

From what I could tell, it's a small shop-house affair...maybe even without air-con. I may give it a try again and hopefully, the owner will have got himself out of bed by mid-morning to attend to his business!

Wow who would think it's so difficult to write about a good place to eat -!? I for one enjoy hearing about new places to try, and what their experiences were like.

Please don't let these paranoid types discourage you from posting again on new restaurants, AussieChick!

There is no air conditioning - just fans. The place opens at lunch time.

So, an Italian restaurant serving English breakfasts but it doesn't open until lunch time.... :)

  8. Sigh..... another free plug for a mate.

endlessimage - if you bother to check out out all of my write ups it either means I have lots of mates or I am being paid!! I live here and I just put up what I think is good for all to know, whether restaurants, bars or football teams.

In fact the Italian is a spit away from my office so very convenient for me.

I am really getting sick of the attitude that there must be a reason (mate/money) - just accept the fact that I live here, this is my home and I want everyone else to be able to enjoy the place like I do - its good points and its bad points!!

In fact if you see my name do not open the thread - easy, that way you won't have to try to be a smarta**e and I want have to have a rant :)

Yawn... I live here too and in general the standard of restaurant food is well below average. Unless of course your standards are very low. I'm yet to see you say anything bad about anywhere, but I stand to be corrected and if so offer my humble apologies. :D

  9. Although primes are generally superior in image quality it does really come back to what you are shooting.

I shoot female glamour for a living, primarily in nature where my feet cannot always do 'the walking'. A model in a rocky. difficult access, mountain gorge or frolicking in the surf is a prime example of where my zooms come into play so that the composition is correct. The only practical use I have for primes are in the studio.

It's good to have a combination of both.

  10. Isn't there another thread on here called "Horses for Courses"?

I shoot with a 1DS MK111 with all the ooh ahh lenses but also have a G11. They each have their own function and even though there is a cross over where both can perform a similar function they are completely different cameras/systems.

    You cannot directly compare.

  11. My ATM/Visa card from Bangkok Bank has been free since I got it a few years ago. The one with the fancy chip on it.

Before that, I had a regular ATM card and that was also free. When I signed up for my bank account, a one year visa was required, nothing more.

Same 300 baht/year at BB with a useless security chip that can only be used in certain BB ATM's and not in another other banks ATM's.

Have accounts at Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial and Kasikorn and was not once asked for type of visa or residents certificate. They didn't care, just wanted the money.

  12. I went there last Tuesday at around 9.30 for a 90 day report only to see people queued in and outside the building so I expected the worst.

Had my paperwork already prepared and quickly received a ticket from the very polite Thai officer behind the counter. Within 30 seconds the number came up and 5 minutes later I was walking out the door all done. Don't know what all the others were doing there...

  13. Can be either screen or video card. My LG laptop developed the same problem and I connected it to an external monitor with a VGA cable to determine if it was the video card or screen. No lines on the second monitor so it was the screen. 9,000 baht to replace (17" WXGA) at LG Pattaya. Was quoted 10.000 at Tukcom in Pattaya.

  14. Disable your firewall and antivirus and then connect.

Cheers - tried that. Firewall no problem. running AVG virus programme and it wont let me shut it down....tried everything. turned off all that i could in its menu's - still cant connect. Tried terminating AVG in the ctrl-alt-del menu, everytime u terminate it, then it comes back.........

guess will have to write numbers in a little piece of paper........

    thanks

Never had this issue with the O2 or iPhone - only samsung.

Have you disabled AVG using msconfig? Start > Run > msconfig > Services > untick AVG box > ok > reboot.

Have used that one before to bypass AVG

  15. Is there any news from Supernet, has the service improved or worsened? do you still need to buy the cable modem from them, or can you just rent it? If you have to buy it, wont it be cheaper to go to tukcom and buy a cheapy one there?

it seems to be the only viable option in my village, as the adsl internet lines and phone lines are "full"

I would be interested to hear anyone recent experiences with Supernet?

The powers to be in our mooban have just changed from Maxnet (they simply couldn't provide a service eventually - at all) to Supernet, the 2mb package. It's useless. Speeds so slow it's sometimes worse than dial up. The only consolation is it doesn't drop out as much as the Maxnet connection did. I'd hate to be relying on an internet connection in Thailand for business...

  16. I've been with my girlfriend for a year and this is my 5th trip to Thailand during the past year. I planned to get married on this trip, but misplaced my divorce papers..... Don't want to break any laws and lie about being divorced, so I guess I'll wait until my next trip to get married. Thanks!

Don't ignore the advice ^^ no matter how much you wnat to..

Have you " been with " the Girl for a Year or have you had 5 trips to see the Girl in a Year ??

    There's a BIG difference..

5 trips to see her in a year. We've known each other for one year. She's a good girl and I'm very much in love with her. When I'm in the states, she calls me everyday on the phone only to tell me that she loves me, not for money. In fact , she wants me to live with her in Thailand and she tells me all the time that she can support me finacially if I do live with her here. Thailand is a very nice place and all, but I would rather live in the states until my kids are grown before I retire in Thailand. I'm only 40 yrs old. I'm giving her parents bt300,000 sin sod ( she told me, I didn't have too, but she does so much for them, I thought that amount was fair)and moving her to US for the next 10 years, then retire in Thailand.

Well, that changes the situation doesn't it? As we used to say in Australia - "Come in Spinner!"
