If its a lot more expensive than View Talay 1 or 2 better buy at VT1 or VT2 which are good and cheap...
Better go look at VT 1&2 first to compare quality. If "Cheap" is the defining word, then VT 1&2 probably fit the bill in all aspects.

All quite nice, but if you are going to do a word for word cut and paste like this, the least you can do is credit your source, Wikipedia. Something along the lines of:
"From Wikipedia:
(etc., or the link, not the full text)"
Gee Mcgriffith, you caught me out. You could be the private eye that the op is looking for. I was hoping that readers thought I came up with all of that independently.
Sorry for not posting the link before.

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away...
"Antigonish" is an 1889 poem by American educator and poet Hughes Mearns. It is also known as "The Little Man Who Wasn't There", and was a hit song under that title.
Inspired by reports of a ghost of a man roaming the stairs of a haunted house in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada,[1] the poem was originally part of a play called The Psyco-edwhich Mearns had written for an English class at Harvard University about 1899.[2] In 1910, Mearns put on the play with the Plays and Players, an amateur theatrical group and, on 27 March 1922, newspaper columnist FPA printed the poem in "The Conning Tower", his column in the New York World.[2][3]
cont....
When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door... (slam!)
Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away

Isn't that the truth.Given that Thailand has no shortage of former FBI, CIA, Special Forces Op's, Ninja's, Assassins, Soldiers of Fortune, you should fine someone. Just look for any disheveled farang in any bar.

TwentyBaht,
Thank you for this excellent explanation. I was heading up to Mae Sai Friday 20Jan for a 90 day report. I have no other items I need to purchase by crossing the border. But I thought perhaps I might do so if now was a good time to try to purchase one of the clones. Based upon your excellent advise on how they are evolving, & the fact that I don't absolutely need one now, I think I will wait at least 6 months, perhaps a year. Thanks again.
-
Pardon my ignorance (it will show by my questions), but I am not familiar with many of the technical terms used by "twenty baht" & others in this thread.
A few quick questions:
1. What is "ROM Flashing" & why is lack of it important?
2. Based upon the cheaper price of a clone from over the border, what is the one to look for? Why? When?
3. Related to question #2, and comments above, is it better to wait a few months for a "ainol clone" that has "infotmic", and why? ie, What specific features should I be waiting for and to specify from the sellers?
Obviously you can see I don't recognize the meaning of "ROM flashing", "ainol" & "infotmic".
Thanks for advice.

Skyblustu,
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks and hope to visit them to ask questions when I am there and do some shopping.
I will need a 90 day report the week of 16-21 January, and would of course prefer to go to the Mall rather than drive up to Mae Sai. But I have to know ahead of time their schedule for visits to the Mall, before assuming I can depend on seeing them there.
1. Does anybody know how I can get their schedule for visits to the Mall?
2. Can anybody advise specifically where they set up in the Mall? Perhaps they have information posted there.
Thanks.

Here is a question and a further observation. If it is true that Thai society has a low degree of ingrained demand for voluntary compliance with the law or doing the right thing, then what could be a contributing factor to that cultural trait?
Perhaps it is at least partially due to the patronage form of Democracy and Capitalism existing in Thailand. A patronage system where the patron professes to assist his supporters; with the implied requirement that in return those supporters accept and overlook any and all potential shortfalls or misdeeds by the patron.
-
Lets focus on the impact on peoples minds about still "Doing the Right Thing" once religion becomes a less powerful force in their minds. In other words, voluntarily obeying the law has become part of their culture. Put the religious aspects aside and focus upon the resulting culture that has respect for truth, the law, and voluntary compiance with the law without having a dictatorial iron fist forcing compliance upon people. What is going to assist Democracy and Capitalisn to function successfully in a society? Is their a culture of corruption, a culture of voluntary compliance, or a culture of forced compliance? The point I would like to make is the observation that Thai society / culture doesn't seem to have the requisite degree of ingrained demand for voluntary compliance with the law or doing the right thing. I am not proposing solutions - just observations.

To give you a flavor of the link, a short quote follows:
Because capitalism and the prosperity it brings are possible only when there is near-universal voluntary obedience to the laws, what institutions can we rely upon to inculcate this instinct amongst the people, before they arrive in our executive suites and on Wall Street?
And how can we strengthen the institutions that teach these things, so that they do it better? When a nation lacks the requisite foundation of extensive obedience to the unenforceable, what form of government will work? Unfortunately democracy and capitalism won’t.
It requires the rule of a strongman who defines the rules and then wields the power required to compel obedience. Living proofs of this hypothesis cover the globe. Just run this experiment. The next time you’re in a taxi with a Haitian cab driver, just ask whether things are better now under democracy than they were under the corrupt rule of the Duvaliers. I guarantee that every one of them pines for the day when there was an iron-fisted ruler who had the instinct and ability to stomp his heel into the chest of those who didn’t follow the rules.

Agree. The extension exercise was what is especially helpful for me (but not everybody). A must for me to do every morning after awakening (along with some pushups
.
Ease into slowly at first to test pain level (it will subside). Google "McKenzie Exercises" to get more information.
I agree with those that mentioned exercise, keeping the back strong regularly helps in some cases, and it's something you have to everyday. If you find those simple lower back exercises and core strengthening exercises work, it gets to be a habit. You will find which ones help you specifically, like myself I send only a little less then 10 minutes every day and it keeps me from reaching for the drugs.
If I wake with any lower back pain I know I haven't been active or have missed the back exercises.
Back surgeries, metal plates screwed to my spine, years of drugs, and permanent nerve damage; but with daily exercise I'm starting to feel good enough to hit the weights for the first time in five years.
We ain't doctors, and of course if it hurts stop it. In time you will find the exercises that help. With a herniated lumbar disk I can't not do extensions pictured regularly or it'll hurt.

lobby of the cnr condotel.....nothing fancy--clean and neat...condotel staff are friendly....800 pm, I think--don't know if you get pool privs, but there is good pool there.
I live in Chiang mai but have a condo at Chiang Rai Condotel (CRC) also; I doubt that you could use the pool there but you should ask them. In any even, while thereare a lot of aerobic machines the weight are inadequate/barely sufficient for decent weight lifting.
In my opinion the nicest facility to meet your needs is at Pimman Inn described above (but therefore potentially the most expensive, I don't know).
There is also the Ha Yack (5 corners) gym on a small soi adjacent to/behind the Tourist Police office at the Mengrai Statue 5 corners intersection (But no pool).
I cannot addrtess costs comparisons for you.

Adopt a homeless cat or dog and you will feel better about yourself.
The pet will come to love you, provide companionship & be more faithful to you than a person could ever be.

Most people go to Mor Chit and get the bus from there. I think it is cheaper doing it that way. I think you can get a bus from Sukhumit as well I did a few years back can't remember where. But I reckon it is better to fly if you can afford it. It is a rough trip.
NCA goes around BKK, so unless you have to go to BKK for other reasons don't go through the headaches of transfering / waiting time loss changing buses. Also, flying can be very time consuming as well: getting from Pats to airport 1 hr ahead of flight is time minimal only if paying for a dedicated taxi. If you are carrying a lot of luggage the bus is definitely an advantage.Perhaps the other deciding factor: If you can fall asleep on the bus (try an antihistimine if difficult) you could be sleeping most of the night & wake up just in time to get off the bus.

I haven't been actively advertising anywhere, but would consider renting my room at Chiang Rai Condotel for 6,000 THB. Pictures at attached link. If you are not interested in my particular room, it may be worth your time to go look at other rooms. If you are interested inmy room either pm me or post a reply to the thread (I frequently overlook signing in & the remember me function seldom works). Sorry to all readers who may consider this an advert, but the poter requested info so I provided some.

"The 2011 survey has found that tax exemptions, affordable living expenses, and reasonable living condition are the reasons that Thailand has been chosen as the most habitable place in the word for retired foreigners".
The primary measurement criteria for country of choice were as stated above. I guess the TAT desires to hide the most significant criteria: the relative availability of female companionship here in Thailand. Like we all tell our mothers, we sold or gave away all of our kit & moved lock stock & barrel to Thailand for the Thai food and the ease of access to Indian tailors.

Hi Mikey
To be honest if you have never had experience of purchasing land or property in Thailand, than you are a gullible farang waiting to happen.
Those that sell land, sell homes or build homes here, love people like you. It`s like a Christmas bonus for them.
You cannot not in the least compare buying real estate in Australia or anywhere else with Thailand. A whole new ball game.
My advice is, that if you already have trustworthy friends or contacts here, then seek their advice first.
Go into this blindfolded, it`s going to cost you dear with satisfaction not guaranteed.
I couldn't agree with you more and advise that this applies doubly to farangs in the business of buying, rehabing and turning over condos. There has & is a rapid influx of farangs moving to Chiang Mai (medium sized city but with all amenities, good climate, educated University town with a multitude of available women graduates without high paying job opportunies). The farangs selling the condos look for & recruit contacts from high priced real estate locations such as Hong Kong, Hawaii, California, Europe, and even Bangkok Suk high price areas. The newbies coming here eagerly listen intently to (& are lulled into numbness by) these "experienced" farang giving them pointers on how to bed the women and oh, by the way, why the newbie should buy the condo the farang is selling. I have listened on the sidelines to the farang sellers, and they sound like used car salesmen, only the good is spoken and never a bad aspect revealed. What the newbie doesn't realize is that if he spent a little tme renting first then surveying the market himself intently he could get the same quality for a far cheaper price.

Unfortunately it is true, Phayao province does have a very high rate of HIV/Aids, possibly the highest in Thailand.
Why is it so hard to believe if the statistics address a rate, ie a percentage of the population HIV+ or full blown AIDS?

Some of the local charities like Care for Dogs runs a simular program. Having a dog neutered or cat spayed is actually very cheap, and it only really necessary to be done on the females. Talk to Care for dogs, or the like or just take one of the local females to a vet and drop a couple hundred baht before she has another litter. It'll make a big difference.
Good advice, worth repeating, for those that would like to help.
Pros And Cons Living In Jomtien Complex Condo

Already lots of excellent posts above in this thread. After reading my own post I see it could be a bit confusing to the reader. VT 1&@ certainly are cheaper. But I'm not sure I made it clear that if cost is not the only, or primary, consideration, then cheaper is certainly not necessarily better.
