1. Hello! If not radio - there is something else in abundance:mp3 compilations, they are not strictly legal, but you dont care do you?there are also legal editions available. On one CD you will find 120 songs.

If you have friends in BKK they can buy or copy and send to you.Cost? in LOS - 50B;in place where I am now - called Golden Mile, they cost 6US$ a piece, but there is great choice of them.I used to send them to friends in US - never any problems.

I had program in my comp, sort of internet radio, which could find about half a dozen of stations from LOS,

    not more,only 2 or 3 - working.

On YouTube - you can find, watch and listen to one wonder girl from Buriram called- Palmy, many songs, you may like her.Do you like Chintara or Kampi?

    Salutos!

  2. Taxi should be same whether you're Thai or not, using the meter. The meter will run up to probably 200-300 baht or so. To get to Mo Chit is probably the best as I haven't heard of any long distance buses near the airport.

Oh, and depending or not on if you want to buy it or he wants to fly some more, why not get him a plane ticket to Korat once he's at Suvarnabhumi?

Your advice is simple but very wrong,I think - no flights to Korat!only train, bus and car.Last time,I wanted to fly to Korat, there were no flights. And ...when they were(some years ago) - one or two a day.

Buses? - every 15 min. and it takes 3 hrs.

  3. Well, these are Thai, and should have known even the law in Thailand and I am sorry to say ignorance does not apply in this case.

Drug-smuggling carries a maximum penalty in Thailand of death, that is the law in Thailand also.

Its gross bulshit what you say in this context - mister! You do not know the law of the country you live! What you say is your wishfull thinking - you would hang everybody, who cross street on red light, yes?

Thais are much more reasonable - max for cannabis is 15 yrs,I think ,which was applied to people using containers as mean of transport. For 20 kg - may be 3yrs?

  4. You can use mobile number!

    Please explain!

    Simon

I am not in LOS now,so I can not check in practice how it works.

There are Nokia mobiles, which can receive and display faxes(Brick-model).

You can forward your mobile number to any other with fax machine connected.

You can use your mobile as modem connected to comp with fax program.

In HK there is mobile company:"People" which sell prepaid SIMCards with fax-box(as well,as voice-mail) - capacity of box is small.there is another telco company

offering same service as Efax(and HK number).

I think in LOS - you can get fax-box on postpaid mobile account?

    Salutos!

  5. My Phuket hotel is signing an agreement with a new online booking agnecy, but they require us to provide them with a 24/7 telephone number on which incoming faxes sent by them can be automatically received.

The problem is that there are no available lines in our location, (we had to pay big money under the table to get our single phone line a few years ago...)

We currently run our fax machine in manual mode on our phone line, but this is not acceptable to the new online agent. And TOT tell me that paying UTT will not work this time!

So I need to find a 'virtual' fax number for automatic receipt of incoming faxes and forwarding to my email address. This fax number has to be a Thai telephone number, and companies such as eFax don't seem to offer a Thai number...

Of course, I expect to pay for this service.

Does anyone know of a company which offers a fax-to-email service that uses a Thai number?

    Thanks

    Simon

    You can use mobile number!

  6. TOC News: http://www.thailandoutlook.tv/

And he was only slightly injured? If I were the assassin's hirers, I would ask for my money back and hire some Russians to do the job. TIT.

You are so right. By no means I want someone to be hurt, but Russian killers always proved a high efficiency in assassinating people, just to check the assassination record in Moscow, leaves you petrified.

You remember movie "BangkokDangerous"?There were a lot of opinions critical - farang-hit-man in LOS?what a funny idea, they said,so many Petchburi boys waiting for jobs...

Now you can see - why serious people are looking for farangs.

one of these farangs was in news last year - in Chiang Mai,you can read in ChiangMai Forum - the very real farang hitman, not celuloid

creature! One of novels by Christopher Moore also touch this subject.

  7. I might jump on the train for a trip to Bangkok because PB Air has changed the fliht schedule from Buriram to Swampy and now does not fly on the day I want to go (cheers :o ).

I can get the overnight in 1st class for about a grand and I want to know where to get off. Seemingly, the options according to the timetable are:

    Don Muang @ 04:49

    Bang Su Jn. @ 05:21

    Bangkok @ 05:50

I don't have to fly until about 9am.

I am leaning towards Don Muang and then transfer to Swampy. Anyone know the time it takes and likely fare between the two airports. I cannot use a bus this time as I'm carrying a little too much but please post up bus options for others.

The only other alternative is a wasted night in Bangkok or a wasted night in Singapore.

I have friend, who lives there(near you).He goes to BKK and out of the country this way:

morning express diesel(830am) and he goes only to Korat(10am).there he goes to new bus station and takes bus to BKK,ge gets-off in DonMuang airport about 1pm.Diesel train comes to BKK only at 3pm earliest and the last part - coming to BKK is the slowest.

I did it once with him and it was fast and cheaper, then train all the way. This morning train is safe bet, cause it has one cheap car, where you can find seat if the rest is booked. There is also overnight sleeper. In DonMuang you take shuttle bus(100B?) to Swampy or taxi(500B).If you come all the way by train, you better get-off at DonMuang station, cross the road and catch shuttle to Swampy.

DonMuang is closing down now - you will find-out what is happening there.TG do not fly there since couple of weeks.

You have to tell bussteward, that you get-off in OldAirport. If you end-up in Morchit, you are near SkyTrain, but better take taxi.(500B)

It is possible to get fast bus from Korat direct to Swampy! What time and how often - I do not know.Regular fast bus to BKK cost 200B

    and leaves every 15min.

I think, the best for you is overnight train, you will come to BKK very early morning, plenty of time to get to Swampy. The only problem is,that .....it can be booked-out?

why you think, that night in BKK or Singapore is wasted time?Do you need any advice?

  8.
Yes you can buy after you land, there are DF counters in the baggage halls as well as in the concourse from the 'plane to the immigration halls.

In Bangkok Airport pasenger can move between Depurture and Arrival areas without restrictions;it was always this way.You can shop till you drop!Do not forget about your luggage waiting!

  9. Has anyone seen reasonably priced 24" ers in LOS? I'd want 1920x1200 wide screen... Those are not that expensive anymore - for example $500 for a nice Samsung...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824001234

Haven't seen any for less than $1000 in Thailand for some reason...

    12800B for 25.5inch T260

    in Panthip 2nd Fl,last month

but T260HD is better, and was not available

for 1kUS$ you will get 30inch sam in same shop.

In another shop same floor:BenQ G2400 5000B only(G stands for gaming),its new item but 2 yrs old model.

All above - FullHD,joy for your eyes and for your wallet.

  10. You want to know the price of your dream machine in Singapore shop Courts? 3880Sing$ with VAT(called GST, refund on departure),

    exchange - 1,515S$/US$

    VAT is 8%,now calculate.

I am toying with idea of buying new "mini",to try Apple experience.I like this minimalistic cube design. And its 2500 sid cheaper...monitor I have already.

About comp shopping in HK: there is only one serious place to do it - Not Wanchai, not MongKok,but ...Golden Shopping Centre in Shan Shui Po.(about 3 MTR stops after MongKok);also worth of visit for serious gadget lovers is new Sony Center in CausewayBay.

US market is the best for buyers,no question about it,but if you can handle Japanese menus in Sony video cameras - or Japanese

Windows in comps - you can buy a lot cheaper in Japan;and also much sooner, before new models hit US shores;some will never reach there.

  11. my Mac Powerbook G4 is getting "long teeth" , so to speak.

The MacBook Pro 320GB sells for 92.000b.

    http://store.apple.com/th/browse/home/shop...pro?mco=MTI4MDI

Would it malke sense to buy it , e.g. in Hongkong?

Never been to Hongkong, some savings might subsides the trip, or ??

    Its 19200HK$ against 92000B;!US$=7.76HK$,no VAT.

if you have not been there, remember, that changing money is tricky.Banks is one place,GOOD money changers in ChungKing Mansion

the only option.Remember, that there is:"buying rate" and "selling rate" plus small print at the bottom about commission.

If you been to London, you should be familiar with situation.Plenty of very visible ChequePoints open deep into night - straight ripp-off.

It starts from the airport(do not change). Its very funny to watch people falling into these traps - such a simple arithmetic!

Buy only in big shops like Broadway(very good) or Fortress, never in small shops on Nathan Rd.better - with local friend.

Other brands, like Dell or Sony, are substantially cheaper, even comparing with... Singapore,

    Take care!

  12. Guys,

My customers in the USA have fixed wireless terminals - basically a mobile phone in a plastic box that never moves. They are used as a backup for their alarm system in case the landline goes down.

Problem is, the cheapest Prepaid SIM is around US$9 per month and the vast majority of units hardly ever make a call. So, I am looking at ways of reducing the monthly fee by using a Thai SIM card with roaming enabled. Obviously, this has to be done on the understanding that if a call has to be made, it will be quite expensive.

So, is there a SIM package out there at the moment that might be of interest to me or can anyone suggest the best Thai SIM provider (GSM) to approach to try and negotiate a business deal ?

Almost nobody gave you an answer,I will give you good advice.May be its not politicaly correct,so - do not tell anybody.

Do you remember what was the choice SIM cards of....alkeda(I mean that dreadfull,u-no-what)?

SwissCom if you do not know.Validity - 2 yrs. Before political scandal you could buy them in SimLimTower in Singapore.

Now - it is necessary to register them on purchace,so - only Zurich.

There is better choice for your purpose - also Swiss, called Sunrise, why better? - for outgoing calls on roaming you just dial:+countrycode,u-number instead of callback, you can also send sms(SwissCom - only receive),they work well-worlwide.Thai simcards

do not roam automatically.Swiss sim cards remain valid with zero balance!(to receive sms of course,to receive & call - you have to pay!)

I hope,U do not plan to use it in any remote controlled toys, like they do in ..so called deep south of LOS...just joking..

  13. Has anyone had any trouble taking copy watches out of Thailand? I always take a few back to work with me for friends. This time I have 14 watches and would hate to get stopped and have them taken from me. I think is quantity's like this I am ok but wonder if anyone has have any problems.

may be you dont know;where are you going?in my country they have changed the law last year;they can punish you for possesion of

copies, even one watch on your hand would do!I do it with movies and cds, very easy to spot on xray.they saw it,they did not care.

    it depends on attitude.

  14. If someone wants to find you (ie. a government authority) they will find you. It's a bit harder for private citizens to track you, but not impossible, regardless of what precautions you take.

Do you think governments would allow the internet to exist without having such capabilities in place ? It's safe and prudent to assume that the authorities can trace your every electronic movement. Sometimes what you see in Hollywood movies is not far from the truth.

For years authorities have been able to trace phone communications. What makes you think they can't do the same with the internet ?

IT IS NOT SO!Do you remember Mark John Karr?Guy stayed in most notorious part of BKK - near MalaysiaHotel. Its full of:gays, druggies, all sort of dodgy people and ...snitches.He used Yahoo and internet cafes there to send his looney emails.FBI and Thai finest were after him!

They could not localize him just through IP;they had many emails from him - he played that game long time. His place was just a mile away from ImmigrationOffice, which was hunting him!

Finally - he allowed himself to be caught, accepting regular post snail letter:came by bicycle to collect, they followed him - low-tech approach. In this way he tricked US Empire to send him home free of charge by bussines class with a lot of undesereved publicity.

I know one internet cafe,my yahoo emails from there appeares coming from..Australia

I know another - IP from there gives - exact street address.

    I have no clue....

  15. You want MacPro?(same graphic card 9600) - then its 3000$ more.Choice is your or your wallet.

Don't know where you buy your Macs from. But a Macbook Pro with Nvidia 9600GT us$1999

I think i'd rather spend an extra $999 and get the aluminum construction LED backlit screen and of course the second built in graphics card for power saving 1.5gb more of DDR3 memory.

Guess you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

Yes!Yes!I looked MacPro in Australia in local curency, top model,so I made mistake - it may be at least 2k$.

Joybook,I recommended is cheap, but it doesnt look cheap - nice, unusual design,it has HDMI interface for big monitor, double graphics;for many people 100%difference in price or 1000$

is A LOT of monies,at least in LOS

you can spend a lot more for gaming notebook- Samsung R560 is even better choice, but heavy, about 1500$you can not buy it in many

    countries,unfortunatly.

  16.
Hello all,

I have a Sony VAIO laptop and it's practically falling apart on me. The keys stick, the left mouse clicker on the touch pad is going, the battery is gone and now the CD/DVD drive is shot. It's is about a year and half old but I'm quite dissapointed. I have been careful with it and I don't see any reason for it to be doing so poorly.

Ok, to cut to the chase. I would like to know what fellow forum members would recommend. I would also like to know of any websites that have reliable and detailed reviews and ratings. Perhaps something similar to dpreview.com but for computers. Thanks in advance....

I have Vaio;it had bad dvd drive which gradually became very choosie about discs it wanted to play:"only originals".Then ,by accident I had poured half a littre of orange juice on keyboard.

There was no choice - I went to service. They changed keyboard and touchpad, they changed dvddrive. The demage? - 300$.Now - its like new.I love it,cause its light(1.5kg) and I can play some games.

If you like games I recommend you cheap gaming laptop:"JoyBook S42" from BenQ,it will cost you - 1000$ only;it has - 9600GT graphic card, you can play any game. Its not 1.5kg but 2.5kg,not too bad.

Its available in LOS but a bit more demage(40000B without OS).You want MacPro?(same graphic card 9600) - then its 3000$ more.Choice is your or your wallet.

  17.
Sounds like it's a pretty good pick for 15K. If I didn't already have an overpriced smartphone, I'd probably get one
While I'm here, I'd like to ask what do people think about companies who keep updating firmware for their products?

Because there are two ways of looking at this. On one hand, you can say they're nice, benevolent, they keep giving you better bang for the buck with new features, more likely than not these will be features you never thought of.

On the other hand, why can't they give us something that's already stable and loaded with features in version 1.0? Couldn't this be an excuse to deliver crap firmware on product launch? Why make the non-savvy customers walk the rocky path of firmware updates? Why wait for 3-4 months for a promise that the companies could honestly just run away from, and the most you can do is shake a tiny fist at their multi-billion-dollar logo?

I've brought up this question before, elsewhere, and the opinion I got was... wait for it... "what's wrong with them giving you extra freebies?" But sometimes when I'm really serious, my own ethics would disagree, so I'm just wondering what your thoughts are.

Well,it is quite common practice:let users debug our product!Cowon is another guilty party. The latest Cowon S9 is good example.

They can be on market quckly, before competition - this is their reason.I think its not very honest, but bugs happen in best companies.

They can correct firmware - even after sale. Not everybody can do it;and often - it is not painless(black screen of death - and then what??)

    Service?where? - in Shenzen!

  18. Any idea how they plan to jam the signals, George? The technology is certainly available. I would love to see it used in restaurants and cinemas.

Hang on ... you will soon be able to use your mobile phone on an aircraft! I think I will have to SWIM to Thailand from Australia!

    Peter

The technology is available since the dawn of radio era.You can recreate wireless set used by Marconi or other radio pioneer(every country and nation have their own radio and aviation pioneers and inventors) using very simple materials and parts. One tin, couple of needles, some wires and battery will do.Any wireless telegraph set will jam everything around.

You must take care to remain undetected!

  19. Is there anywhere in Phuket that sells Skype Certified phones that connect direct to my ADSL Router? I currently use Skype on my PC, but want to be able to have a 'normal' phone, that is not dependent on my PC being on (or me sat at it!).

If they are available in Phuket, any recommendations would also be worth knowing.

    Hope somebody can help?

    Thanks.

    RoyalJenny

    You can use iPhone!

Serious!Company Linksys produce internet/skype phone, which is called "iPhone".

there is model iPhone CIT-300,which requires your comp to be on

and another model iPhone CIT-400,which works with your ADSL modem only ,comp can be off.

They are modern cordless phones in fact, with the range - 50mtrs,full name is:"Dual Mode Internet Telephony Kit" made by Linksys.

CIT-300 is less then 100$,CIT-400 is about 150$.They were available in LOS;characteristic blue boxes, like their routers.

Similar devices are made by Belkin and Shirio, but without glamorous "iPhone" name.I am using "original iPhone"from Linksys, mostly in cordless mode,

because they do not have video display! What a pitty!

  20. Whats the software on this? Windows Mobile? Or what?

Asking b/c saw one of those fake nano iPhones recently. It has the same home screen as the iPhone - well, more or less - and the same form factor. But if you click on any of the buttons you are presented with a comparatively 1980s looking application handling this. All in all the phone was still fine because it was really dirt cheap so anything you got with it was a bonus. But... iPhone it was not by a long shot.

Personally, I don't support companies that outright steal ideas and designs so that would be the first reason not to buy this. The second reason would be that the software is probably garbage... :o

Mr Nikster! When one crook is stealing from another crook - God is happy!

Apple has stolen name "i-phone" from Linksys.

Apple used ideas patented by Creative and they had to pay to Creative around 100milion $ after losing in courts!

Creative and 2 other companies were first to market mp3 players, not Apple.

    I-Pod/I-Phone: rip-off for I-diots!just look on prices...

    LOL

Well, Mr Borovik, you are entitled to your opinions like everyone else. I do not think that any of your statements above are true but then again, I don't really care enough to argue the point. We all make our own reality.

    :D

Amigo Nikster!I did not mean any offence!I am sorry!Really!!

What I mean is,that Apple Co.is villian itself in department of stealing somebodys ideas.Linksys -( name known in this forum better, then Apple) - produced phones called "Iphone" some years.AppleCo. decided to use this name WITHOUT Linksys consent!Outrigous behaviour dont'you think so?They decided to put I-Phone on the

market without settling this matter with Linksys, who was THE OWNER of the name

    "Iphone".They had settled that later,somehow.

You can google it yourself if you do not believe me.

In year 1998 I bought myself the first mp3 player called Diamond Rio PMP300.

The very first was produced in the same year in march, and is called EigerLabsMPMan.

In 1999 CreativeLabs came with "Nomad".Many others followed.

This was 1000yrs ago - previous Millenium!

And were was Apple then? The Next Millenium - October 2001.....first iPod.

And who invented mp3?German mathematicians may be 15 years before and they even did not want to patent it!-out of idealism, will you believe?

3 years ago I bought mobile Nokia 61E;one year before Apple iPhone.

It has big screen, keyboard,a lot of memory,sd card slot,GSM,GPS,3G,it can play music,it can play videos, radio, loudspeaker and...it is very good telephone!

One year later MrSteve J. appeared like magician on stage with brilliant "new" idea:

    multimedia mobile phone!called - iPhone(it can play music,videos,no sdcard,no keyboard,no radio,no 3G,and it was lousy phone unfortunatly).........pathetic....

    Have a nice day

  21. It would be nice to see all ATM with a clean standardized look, shielding customers transactions and enabling customers to easily spot any electronic scanning device attached.

But I doubt that will solve the problem as another post points out there are numerous ways to scam ATM customers.

Two Thais Held For Stealing Bt1.7m From Briton

I had myself this experience,it may happen to any of you:my girl was doing biz with atm outside bank,I was waiting on side.

Another customer appeared behind - in line, waiting, another girl, with big motorcycle helmet on her head...and....she seemed

to stand to close to my girl, almost touching her!And it was that!Video camera in her helmet!

  22. Anyone knows where I can find 30" Samsung monitor in BKK? I went to Pantip today and they havent idea..

Amigo! You was there, but you did not see!I saw 30inch sam monitors for sure, cause I contemplated buying one.

It was two weeks ago.I ended up buying T260,you may guess - 26inch.

The shop is on right side, looking from the street, not very high - 2nd or 3rd floor, they distribute big flyers

with pixes and prices,so it is not any secret/underground operation.

  23. Whats the software on this? Windows Mobile? Or what?

  24. I'm looking for Sennheiser HD555's and was wondering if any of you audiophiles knew of the best place to shop for them, and possibly audition them and some others as well. Fortune is the ideal location if any of those shops carry them.

Also would appreciate any recommendations for closed headphones, in the same price range as the 555's, that are available in BKK.

Try Jaben in......Singapore....why not?its not far,by bus,by train,by boat or by AirAsia;he has online shop as well.

    www.jaben.net

his shop(Mr.Wilson) is located in Adelphy Court,1 Coleman Str. - extremly user friendly, audition?most welcome!

  25. I have experience with older Meizu products:M6 and M3,they are mp3 players,very good indeed.But!

Before they became very good, they had period of maturing through three or four firmware upgrades.

I advice to wait sometime.I also advice to buy in Shenzen,or at least in HK,which will save you a benjamin,or

    more.
