  1. I can recomend you two services I am using:

    - Skype, subscription for calls to telephones, includes sms,you can send your skype number,if you have such,if you do not have- your skype-name is send and displayed

    - www.fastmail.com.au ,subscription for email - includes sms(you can make sender's number)

Both work well to Thailand, have nothing to do with telcom company, should work anywhere

I do not know about any service, which accept sms into comp,do you?

how to send sms to somebody's comp?good question - anybody can advice about it?

    with regards

    Viktor

  2. Saw him last time, what a legend! :)

all the Thais left before the encore!

I saw him on another gig,not in Thailand - all public was delighted with his perfomence;Thais? - they do not like western music and they do not know it.

They know two names only - MichaelJackson and Madonna.

My GF likes Scorpions;I met them in Rachadapisek disco after gig here - nobody knew them!they were anonymous;everybody knew cheezy local

singer on stage, who was popular and public was excited about her,she was the star of the evening - not Scorpions.

People here complained in another place about expensive tickets for Leonard Cohen,my Eric Clapton costed me 300 bucks each - same what LC in PP.

    was it worth?Shure!

  3. Since you have ruled out most other countries in the area then I would recommend Penang. Nice place to visit for a few days. We stayed at the Cititel Hotel which is located on the main strip in town. For something quieter you can look for something on the beach. Google "hotels in Penang" and you'll get plenty of possibilities.

Citital is nice, but not very exotic;nearby you will find very interesting old establishment called "Cathay";and another in the same style -

called" Heritage1926"(number starts from 192 - the last sigit - I am not sure.)The same style, but hotel is new and very nice. Both of them are cheaper then Cititel.Thai GF might prefer Cititel, they do not understand "heritage" thing.

@Spaniel - do you remember me;once I offended you;trying to convince you not to go Pai.Did you go that time?

Look into post in Thailand News and another post in ChiangMai forum about killer-cop in Pai.I remember, that you claimed, that you could handle such people. You must be that famous Lemonade Joe,who shoot first?Time to take action - Pai is waiting for you.

This was joke....but something has happened there - you should know.

  4. giving this a quick bump .....finding it hard to believe that no one can comment on these cheap, common gadgets that are now flooding the market. Every superstore has several brands and models to choose from.

I have one from Haier, which I bought in the U.S. It didn't cost much and has performed reliably for over a year. We take it on trips and it takes some of the DVD's that others reject. Can't recommend any others but would try to buy a brand that has a great service center. I do have an Aconatic DVD player (not portable) that was fairly cheap and has lasted me several years, however, have yet to use their service center.

I have "Shinco",good Chinese brand, not expensive.I am not sure,if they have presence in Thailand. You have to check screen resolution - 800x480 or 800x600

it should be;if less it looks crappy;screen should be viewable from wide angles(very common fault:narrow angle - one person can look only).Another thing - in practice, screen which you can rotate make the player more usefull. You can find players from well known brands - Sony,Panasonic,Philips, but their quality varies as well.

With Sony - you will not lose, but you will pay.Take your own dvd to shop and test;pictures(photos) are good test - better, then movies only, play some music(check what format it plays),make sure, that it is "region free" - testing dvd from different regions(specification can say, that it is only for one region - BS!)

  5. Mr.DodoBird! you are getting to personal and emotional. You can fly with TigerAir,why not?Who else will take you to Langkawi for 800B?cheaper then bus ticket ?But do not try to call their Customer Service number because they dont answer,

or worse - they will put you on hold indifinetly causing great damage to your calling card(or worse - your Visa/Master!)

You can call instead - Airport Flight Information;they know about delays.

Last time,I flew with them - they played that game with luggage;my carry-on was 15kg instead of ...7kg;but it was my fault and I had to pay only little bit as penalty(after my plea:"please.!have a mercy!").

I do not complain about TigerAir.

  6. I have just discovered this thread,I have read all of posts and two Pattaya sources, mentioned here and now, please forgive me!I have stupid question:

    WHERE IS THE MONEY???

Is it again the situation, like from Cohen brothers movies - "Fargo" or "There Is No Country For Old Man":

briefcase full of cash lies somewhere in bush, snow under some fence, without owner being around?

    Well,I see bussines opportunity - look around Pattaya in proper places - it must be somewhere,I think it might be burried in sand on the beach;

it might be fixed with tracer device,so it is easy to locate with proper equipment.

If you are lucky and you find it - buy me drink for good tip;remember however, what happened to lucky guy in the movie...

  7. As the drunk driver ran away 1) how do you know he was drunk and 2) its unlikely that the hospital staff didn't help the unfortunate man who died.

Even a cynic will assume that the hospital staff will do everything to help - as the hospital will charge for every treatment.

I'm not trying to 'down-play' what happened - but its not quite a case of 'drunk driver hits motorcyclist farang who is left to die by hospital' IMO.

Yes, the police will try to blame the farang in this sort of accident, but there's little that can be done about this. At least the fact that the car driver ran away will (hopefully) carry some weight if they catch him.

What is your point Mr.F1?Have you been there? No - you are from Phuket;so,why you think that driver was not drunk and why you think, that OP is lying about situation in hospital?

You are cynic yourself, and your post is unhelpfull.Get yourself another beer - it will help.

I must say she was pretty helpful and her post sounded good. I have to agree that its really unlikely that a hospital would not help as they love to bill foreigners.

Same applies that if the driver runs away you cant be sure he is drunk. She did not say anything strange and the tone of her post was not bad either. So lighten up a bit.

Some terrified kids face tragedy here and F1fanatic is playing armchair detective accusing them of lying?

Another post above:OP declared himself as "Polish",it means,he is from Poland not Holland;however nobody said, who is the victim, may be he is Dutch?

People come here from across the world to have nice holiday time and now what? - coming back in coffin or urn after senseless death!Light-up?a cig?

  9. Their original escape plan included a Polish submarine but...well, you know how that one goes... :)

What a story. William Peter Alexander isn't really a Dutch name, neither the Polish guys' names. Something smells with the whole story, 90,000 Euros is about almost four million baht and they didn't go away.

    Sounds very gay. Okay?

Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands is sure a dutch name.

Pattayaonenews has the name as The victim, Mr. Willem Pa Jansen aged 42 from The Netherlands. Thats so dutch

    This is hilarious

It is not only victims name!PattayaOne gives names and nationalities of two perpetrators, who were caught and pictured:mr Motycka and mr.Frantisek(typical Czech names) from Czech Republic and they name the third one,who is missing as "Jimmy" from England. In PattayaDailyNews -they also named same two Czechs. There was nobody from Poland.

So,Dear Members:"crusader79""maithaimai""sisaketmike"!where do you stand with your poor ethnic jokes? It looks, that you can not figure out simple news story?Could you tell us the origin of yours brilliant minds - where are you from?To much methanol in cheap alcohol had dimmed your

sight? and minds? It doesnt take detective to see through all this story - it is about some dodgy biz gone wrong:

unpaid wages, fake merchandise(aspirin instead of... E-spirin),merchandise delivered and not paid etc. - Pattaya-AMS connection.

  10. It is illegal here - I do not mean "this subject on TV",but gold bars..At least it was illegal some time ago.Now - I am not so sure.

The best place to buy?HongKong in banks plus safe box there. In Singapore - you will have problem with GST(VAT).You can buy in Mustafa anytime, even at 3am.

It is not so straight to sell it,however - to sell it to the bank - it has to be sealed-packed by the same bank with proof of purchase.

Physical gold is safe boat in case of total collapse.

  11. Not sure where in China you need to get too but if you stop in Hong Kong first then China visa's are relatively easy to obtain.

Yes!Do it in HongKong - if you are in a hurry - you will get it almost instantly(for a fee),it is possible to do it

.....at the border;if you have more time - in any travel agency:sameday service,2hours service,3days service. No idiotic paper work - 1(one) visa photo, fill the form, sign and pay. They can give you 3 months, double entry without any fuss.Fuss will start if you want multiple/one year(6months is possible).

  12. nice to hear about the laws, but how good does it work?

You can make local calls, paying "world" subscription;but they have "fair usage clause" - which you will breach with your many biz calls, even in small company. But you can try and negotiate later.May be - you will have to make this try from another country(open account and subscribe to "world unlimited").

  13. Saw where the last post here was in August ...

Anyone have any updates on free wifi at Swampy?

Not long time ago - they are very stingy indeed:you go to "information counter" and request FreeWifi

password;first you will have to give your passport number and sign the form, then they will give you special "scratch"coupon with password valid ....take your breath!:15 minutes.

Some coffee shops nearby will give you the same - with consumption, minimum 500B(also - 15 min).

Better do your emails at home.

  14. From Dili they have flights to Darvin,Denpasar and Singapore.

Only Denpasar is daily,Singapore is 2 times a week, and SilkAir is expensive.

Denpasar is in Bali,Bali is in Indonesia(not everybody knows it)

My advice is - fly to Bali on return ticket and buy there ticket to Dili.

    if you are not adventerous - buy ticket:BKK-SIN-DIL on SQ(SingaporeAir),SilkAir is part of SQ;

it is not cheap solution, but most reliable and very easy.

    Have a nice time!

    Happy New Year to everybody

  15. Thai Civil Code *Section 448*. The claim for damages arising from wrongful act is barred by prescription after one year from the day when the wrongful act and the person bound to make compensation became known to the injured person, or ten years from the day when the wrongful act was committed. (Samui4sale)

Not that I want to, but I heard that you could commit murder and disappear for 10 years, and then come back and all is forgiven and forgotten

20(twenty) - you will get old in meantime.

  16. Hi gusy thanks for the advice, where are you all buying these devices pantip?? you guys who have external how do yu hook them up to you laptops or pc's?

If you know the direction of poor source of wi-fi,you can make great improvements using directional antena. You can do it yourself

creating reflector from aluminium foil or wire-mesh;another solution:tin antena - google for instruction. The most important is:location!

    like in house biz.

  17. When I arrive in BKK, I usually carry my supply of medicine for 6 or 3 months. That means 100 or 200 pills. I always take the red channel. I show the pills, the 3 or 4 bottles of wine, the packs of cheese and salami to the customs. Never a problem. Once an officer told me it was only "nit noi" (?).

I always take Green Channel,I declare nothing, give nothing - never had any problem.

  18. That's why some call it FedUp !

Are you sure Amway does not sell this herbs ?

Otherwise, at 'Munkala' the Chinese Medical Clinic in Chiangmai if they don't have it they make it for you. I recommended this clinic to several people who suffer from something. Very recommendable !

I call them Federal F!#*-Ups.More approprate,I think.Anyway- it is courier service - did you need pills so urgently? There is post office.

  19. I've got a visa for Thailand issued in Penang a few years ago. It has lost it's stickiness and is coming off the page. Would it be OK to remove it as it is falling to pieces? Or buy some glue and stick it back in. It would leave a blank page and just the tip of the consulate stamp. What do you think guys :) ?

Similar thread was here few weeks back;my post with advice was declared illegal and deleted;so - now I am wiser and I will not give you any...But it looks, that old stickers keep falling off.Take it easy...

  20. Can anyone else confirm this? Is DTAC better about this, or T-Mobile? Is this a problem on the Thai and, or the USA? I mean, I know SMS doesn't have a delivery guarantee but within Thailand and also to some other countries I have tried, delivery is usually instant.

Usually it is instant, but often - not at all.In critical mission situation it is wise to check in practice in advance - which operator, cooperates

with your own operator.Sometimes - I use two different pairs - for sure,at least it is easy to use Skype,as 2nd one.

  21. This might be usefull info for audio book fans. There are players with speed playing control, like:very slow, slow, normal, fast, very fast.

They do not change pitch. Some people will save time, some people - will understand better. What do you prefer - slow or fast?

    One model I remember is mp5 - not very simple,but not too expensive - just 100$,brand name "@ASK",model:ASK TV-MP5 HD911
