  1. OP! do not look for dongle!Listen to Jiu-Jitsu!Do you have smart phone or tablet?most of them

offer tethering:smartphone/tablet connected to mobile internet can deliver it to your laptop in

3 ways:by USB wire or by Wi-Fi hotspot or by BlueTooth - you will shoot 2 birds with 1 stone.

  2. You can take your niece abroad without passport legally. She needs ID and xerocopy of birth certificate.

She will get Border Pass at any border check point to Laos. She may stay there 3days/2 nights. It costs about 200B.

For instance - you can take her to Pakse,4000thousand Islands and Wat Phou,In the same manner you can enjoy VienTian/VangVien.

and other border areas;travel by bus, minivan or taksi.

Going to Cambodia is even more simple - she will not need anything, they even do not check her ID.But! - on Cambodia she is allowed to stay only

24 hours in direct border area - it means:casinos, hotels and dutyfree market. It means that ChangJom/Osmach makes sense as well as Poipet and BanPackard.

The one near SiSaket is empty and there is nothing there to enjoy.

I made many trips with family on BorderPass without any problems and little cost.

Recently passport regulations were changed and all family have passports now.I think your niece should apply for passport, she will get it.

    Cheers!

Incorrecto info. A valid Thai Passport is required for exiting Thailand and entering Cambodia at Choam Sa Ngam and Choeng Chom border crossing. This was verified this morning.

We visited ChongChom/Osmach border couple of weeks ago.

Thai person can visit casinos without passport,ID is sufficient - info from Thai Immigration;the same we were told in hotels there by receptions:Thai people check-in with ID or passport.

To aid insult to the injury:

Cambodia Immigration do not stamp Thai people passports when they enter Cambodia going to SiemReap and coming back, only Thai stamps:exit

and return. They do not bother with Thai visitors, they do not check them at all.

Bad news: new bus service: Siem-Reap to Osmach is not doing very well, there is morning bus every day,but evening bus - only on weekends.

    Good news: casinos are full.

  3. I don't see why some say there is nothing to see. Siem Reap is two hours down the road, and Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, etc..etc. 1500 baht in a cambo taxi. $30 night in a hotel. You don't cross a border for 2 days and sit to watch traffic....

goanna! we were arguing: where Thai person could go into Cambodia without passport on Border Pass, thousands of Thais cross border every day to enjoy casinos on Cambo side. However they are not allowed to leave casinos area where they could stay 24 hours only.

    Capito?

  4. I use Skype World call. From my computer using 3bb Fiber 30/3 perfect calls to both UK landlines and also Chinese mobile phones. You can use the normal Skype interface, store the number with customer details etc. Use with a headset or with a VoIP Skype phone.. The Skype number. No idea.. I might get one another time

The system you use is the exact same system I use. Never had a problem.

A Skype number is a regular landline phone number from your home country, and you can chose from a list. You can give this number out to friends, family, and customers. They can ring this number and it's the cost of a local call for them, but Skype route the call to your Skype account and you can take the call anywhere in the world. The caller doesn't even know you are out of the country, and isn't paying anymore than the cost of a local call.

It's a portable local landline number.

Well,it is not exactly regular landline number. It depends what country you are talking about. In Japan it is 050number,not regular and not very useful.
  5. If you do it in 2 stages - with stop in LuangPrabang and/or VangVien - so it will be 12hours(sleeping bus possible) plus 8 hours. If you want to do it

in one go - you can,but it is sadomasochism. You can take boat,Airasia - to VT or LP,train to Nongkhai, there are direct international buses Chianmai/Chiangrai,loei to LP; between VT and destinations in Issan even BKK...If you have iron arse -may be you can sit in bus 24 hours?

  6. post-70825-0-96089100-1457499272_thumb.jI do not argue about it,it is rather disbelieve. They even did not check id!no formalities at all!And now passport is necessary?

As I mentioned above - I know the reason:it is shown on the picture enclosed.more you may find here:

  7. We will go there quite soon,I will check it out.The name of the facility is called:"border pass".On Laos border it involves a bit of paper work,

on Cambo border they did not bother with papers;casino/duty free area is isolated and there is nowhere to go.the nearest town 30km away is disgrace, why to go there?SiemReap is more then 100km away, road there is new and empty. There is check post on exit from dutyfree, where they might check your documents. You may stay in hotels in casinos, there is reception there, farangs need passport,Thais ID was sufficient(and they pay less!800B for them,1200B for us,swimming pool recently was closed, restaurants - very good food, cheap). There is good bus to SR twice daily,

or you can take Camry, some people cross border with their cars(usualy - Fortuners)

    Cheers!

ps. there is very interesting story going on,reported by George in tweet today - about casinos on Cambo border

  9. You may need visa to Laos in your passport. Some of you look on it from your personal experience, which is:visa runs.

Most people never heard about visa runs to Laos or elsewhere;however they travel a lot.

You will need Lao visa if you want to board flight to Vientian or Luang Prabang on one way ticket.

They will force you to buy ticket at the airport or you will not fly - very expensive exercise!

Most people go to Laos for pleasure of travel and they continue their travel overland to:China,Thailand,Vietnam,Cambo or Burma.

  10. In pdf leaflet from the link - you can figure out the access number used to retrieve your emails:

    +66 81 9009999

They advice you to use their "Call Home Service" to access it.But it works in any way you will make your call!

for instance - you can use Skype ,calling cards,VOIP etc. Just dial access number, like any number in Thailand.

From many countries calls to Thailand are free or very cheap if you use local sim card, you pay only for local air time.

You do not need to use their international roaming!

  11. It must have been a very big air pocket, otherwise C02 poisoning and/or O2 starvation would have gotten him. I'm wondering if this is a hoax ...

I'm wondering if this is a hoax ...

Did you happen to read the full story and see the rescue video?....of course not..obviously facepalm.gif

    keep on 'wondering' mate....

MaxYakov knows a thing or two about russkiy submarines and air pockets - look his avatar.

I also know little bit.It has happened last night - I watched good movie about russkiy subs - "Phantom",real story, rescue operation was reported in National Geographic mag years ago - incredible!nobody survived - 4000mtrs below surface;but they got bodies and they send them to Soviet Union.

  12. You have plenty of options open.

Sony and Olympus sell many models of specialized digital voice recorders and they are available in ChiangMai. - small and handy, fit into shirt pocket.

My smartphones can do the same trick with external mike or internal.

The same about my digital cameras - only Pentax has external mike input, compact Canon - small and handy - no(in video recording mode).

You can find also those secret video/voice recorders in form of pen, wrist watch..;I think - pen is reasonable solution;massive presence of them in electronic shops!

Do not forget about tablets, laptops, walkmans and mp3 players.

Early ipods did not have any recording features, today however they joined the crowd.

There is small problem with mp3 format - there are many other formats in use,and plenty of application/software which will convert into mp3.

You have to test your system before the event!

  13. I can tell you where to change:ChungkingMansion on 1stFloor there are only 3 changers,on GF - many.

So,on 1F Pacific Exchange will give you probably the best rate in town.Western Union in HK gives lousy rate

    for TB,

and the worst rates ever you will get at HK Airport for any currency.

You will find BKKBank in HK in 2 locations, one of them very easy to find - in Central, near Central MTR
