1. Ive now many Audio books stored on my computers ( PC & Mac ) , all mp3 files ,so now I would like to

buy a small portable mp3 player , as ive never had one before , not too sure what to

look for both in makes and spec , any advice Please

    Thanks

    TL :)

    Should read ... Buy :D

I am familiar with this subject, its my biz.The best for you - SansaClip,SansaClip+ and SansaFuze from company SanDisk.

SansaClip is simple device, with very good sound, very affordable,it has display, but doesnt show pictures or video.Sansaclip+ is new model - with micro memory slot,SansaFuze has memory slot and bigger display for pictures and videos. All models - quite small and light, they "know"

    Thai script.

Expect to pay less then 100US$,they are available on Amazon and on SanDisk online shops.

Another player, which is good for LOS is Samsung YP-CP3,its very new model with big(3inch)beautifull display, cost 130US$.This player is a sort of polyglot - it supports all major world languages,Thai including. You will not see any gibberish on screen, only

Thai letters;only very few players can handle Thai language well!!CP3 does it perfect. To use these players you do not need any special

software, you can swap memory cards with mobile or friends,so even comp is not necessary.

  2. Thank You borovik. I will do that. I did it before, purchased M1 and used it. It was quite ok. Thanks again

How much did you paid for M1 prepaid?

SIM cards cost between 8S$(200B) up to 50S$;the most popular are 15-25S$,valid - 180days without recharge.

Registration is must, done on spot by scanning terminal - passport is necessary.

Free IDD calls means - you pay for local air time only(2-4B/min.) and you have to dial not "001"not"+",but"019" or "018" etc.

StarHub introduced 3G prepaid SIMcard for mobile internet,in practice - 5S$/day of mobile surfing.

Singapore cards work well on roaming worldwide - good for sms-ing.

  3. Can anyone give me information whether HAPPY SIM CARD purchased from Thailand will be active at

Singapore for 4 days. After buying the SIM CARD from Thailand, I like to stay 3 days at Thailand

and then visit Singapore for 4 days. I like to know whether I can make International calls from Singapore

with that same SIM Card. IF yes, then how much do I have to pay for those International Roaming calls

Better solution is to buy new SIM card in Singapore. You can do it in money changing counters at airport there.

New card cost is - minimum 200B.You will get free(FREE!) IDD calls to many countries, including Thailand. And you will not have problems

with roaming calls - calling strange numbers and waiting for call-back.Sim cards are also available in 7/11 anytime, anyday anywhere.

What I have found in 7/11 Geylang shop on midnight?listen!listen!! - mobilebroadband 3G sets:special sim card plus USB dongle in three variaties:

    - 2M,3.6M and 7.2M speeds;from company StarHub.2M is 100S$,7.2M is 150S$;they did not have sim cards alone, only bundles, but broadband sims are available in StarHub shops(12S$ only, but not at midnight). There is another company providing the same - M1.This is quite new development, may be 3 months old.

So,coming back to your problem:you have a choice of 3 mobile providers - SingTel,StarHub and M1.All three will give you free IDD calls.

Do you still want to roam with DTAC?

  4. You all make fun here of duped PO's family.I do not understand why?

I know well very nice lady in Europe, with degree, who makes her living selling matteraces used for sleeping. They are made in USA.

They call then "magnetic"beds. She firmly believes, that she has genuine, good product, not BS!Her beds contain in fact many polarized magnets, which form magnetic field.About - one thousand bucks per single bed.

Anybody remember the cult group in Japan which gassed subway in Tokyo?I forgot its name already, but I did not forget the BS device, which they used to keep on their heads. It looked very scientific and serious, but it was something very simple, similar to my friend's magnets:

it was electric network of button cells connected somehow, forming sort of hat.Unbelievable!!!

Intelligent, educated people are made to believe such a nonsense??We should come back on trees and start it all over again...

  5. Western Union would be your quickest method as the money would be available virtually immediately and there are agents all over Thailand. If you check their website - westernunion with a dot com - you can find the nearest agent to you and in Thailand or, as I use to, send from their website with a credit card (classed as a cash transaction though so you will pay interest straight away and if you don't pay off all your bills it will remain there as the last thing to pay off).

Your sister in Law will need the MTCN number (transaction number given by WU), your name, city and country sent from and the amount along with showing her ID card and they will just hand the cash over.

Western Union is very quick - instant! in fact, but you pay for it!I have just send 10 000B,service fee was:1100B=11%

The most easy place and the cheapest to send monies to Thailand is Singapore.WU charges only - about 1% servicefee. Why?

because they have a lot of competition in form of many remittance companies operating there. You can use them as well.

In Thailand - you collect WU transfers any day of the week in banks located in BigC,Lotus,Robinson etc which are open till early evening!(7pm) as well as Post Office and WesternUnion's agent in LOS : Ayuttya Bank.

You can trace your transfer very easy;they will not trick you with fairytales about "money not come" "something lost""send again!"!

  6. You can go a lot cheaper on Nepal Airlines, about $90 each way. Wait until you get to Thailand and buy your ticket at the airport or downtown travel agent.

Don't ever fly with any Nepali airline internationally. Unsafe, frequent cancellations!! Domestically in Nepal you obviously have no choice. Try the flight around the Everest for about 120USD. Fantastic! Can be booked anywhere in Katmandhu.

The Soaltee Crown Plaza hotel is good value for money. You should get a nice room for about 50USD/night.

I subscribe to the same opinion about RoyalNepalAirlines,my opinion is even worse(toilets - bloody shame!) - but they have improved very much;previous notorious problems were created by their ruling family(Royal in name) which grabbed aircrafts(they had 2 only) for their

travels, disrupting the schedules. Now,they are passe.RNAC is the only 2nd option from Bangkok.Winter is off season - but you may be left

without any choice;then remember - request for seat on the right side(coming,left- leaving) and far from toilets!

  7. Hello, My Wife and I will be traveling for a month to Thailand for our honeymoon this next winter and I had a question. My sister will be working in Nepal on her Doctorate and we thought it would be cool to jump over there and say "hi" for a week at the beginning of our trip. I tried to calculate the cost of such a trip from here in the States and it came out to be about 2000 US dollars each for us to fly from the states to Thailand, to Nepal for a week, back to Thailand and then back to the States a month later. I did a little research and found Thai airlines would fly us close (India) and back for about $150 each. My question: Is it much more affordable to buy tickets from within Thailand once we get there? I couldn't actually find a direct flight through Thai airlines to Nepal. Any help regarding traveling to Nepal from Thailand greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    -John

Khun John! You need better travel advisor and some good guidebook!Do not travel without it,guidebooks are usefull in travel planning.

Also you should equip youself with map.

Thai Airlines(TG) fly to Nepal every day about 10 morning - nonstop.Return special fare is about 10 000B(300$)/pax.You better

buy it in Thailand.Visa on arrival. You can go to India,if you want on same trip, but you need visa in advance.

    Guidebooks? - highly recommended:LonelyPlanet and their website:www.lonelyplanet.com

I am sure - you will have great time!

  8. No Farrang is going to do life in a Thai prison. 3-5 years in Bangkok Hilton, then 2-4 years in a Farrang-land prison.

    Basic rule-of-thumb.

You dont know and you make a point. Its half true what you say,if not gross bullshit. You have comp - you can check on BangKwang

website.Your basic rule of thumb is your misconseption.Americans have to sit here 8yrs before they qualify for transfer- not 3-5.

Every country - different rules.British after transfer - must sit half of remaining original number, which is - very long.Swedish can go home

quite early, but they keep them inside in home for ages!(behind PolarCircle all day in cells). Many countries do not have transfers, they sit here

and they do not like it!

My point is:somebody read your post and then he is looking for "job" because he doesnt see much danger.3+2=5 not a big deal?what about

100?Death was awarded to two farangs recently, what will you do with them?8 yrs in Bankwang is equal to life in UK(quite bad jails there).

  9. It seems like no matter what frequency you try somewhere. someone's transmitting on that frequency when driving around Bangkok

The FM band is very full in Bangkok,

so a cable solution will be better.

It is connected not by cable, but by another wire - power supply! The trick is to close external anthena - it helps, but its inconvinience.

Do you have any traffic info in BKK on fm?I am using it up-country,3 fms in 100km.

  10. I would like to use my Ipod in my car but my new Camry does not have a external connection for a Ipod. :)

Does anybody know where i can buy a Ipod FM transmitter which i can in my car.

I'm looking for a Belkin or griffin FM Transmitter for example and can go to Panthip or MBK.

Do somebody know if i can buy these at Panthip or MBK or smewhere else ?

Move your all car music from ipod to pendrive - in mp3 format.Buy chinese fm-modulator and stick pendrive in it.In this way you will not go throu analog wire connection.

You will save ipod from wear and tear.Chinese modulators are all cheap, but they are diffirent, the best are models black color;they are not knock-offs however!I do not know any "original" model better then them,do you?with SDcard slot,USB,internal memory? At least you can try ,it will cost you little!- you have to adjust output frequency to minimize interference.

Better solution is car receiver with USB input. In Macro you could buy characteristic speaker in form of "pig"(1200B)-it is very good device, with powerfull bass(2.1)you can power it from

lighter socket and adapt to use in car.The latest models are available(not in LOS yet,but may be already here)-with SDslot and USB and...i-pod socket. Some - in the form of "panda".

They look cute, but amazing sound! Its original chinese idea(pig),panda is for US market, pigs are not cute in US eyes!

  11. And now we can compare two points of view:

    -google view

    -real world view

Up to the point of carrying the prince to the clinic i believe the 'real world view'. As a prisoner hardly can walk over to the prison hospital, which is in a completely different building outside the Remand Prison, and then to a private hospital outside the prison several kilometers away, the further statements are based on hearsay, rumors etc.

Sure!up to the clinic - but this is the eyewitness account, not hearsay.Prince was in coma already - he looked dead.

And according to witness - he was waiting for medicines, which had not been delivered in time.

Also - read description of Swiss Embassy visit!Cover-up!They removed inmates from building to make it look empty and nice.

That tragedy was very important event.Taksin's goverment offered public apology for that.In my humble opinion

    - it was the last straw, which caused his downfall short time after.

And google view can be usefull as well,I did not want to be mean.It doesnt happen often, that somebody comes with real account from another planet(Bangkok Piset).

Thanks to google, tonight - I have figured out finally one of mysteries in my own life;and now - I am scraching my head ...

  12.
Any proof of what the guy is saying about the flu and mask? Or just an "email"?

It is without a doubt true.

Even stuff sent in to us by embassies wasn't given to us for free, no cigerettes in payment no goods.

I watched the Prince of Lichtenstein die slowly in our building after he was refused his diabetic medicine.

Very sad but very true, your life is worthless in a Bangkok Prison.

Than you must have been imprisoned in a private hospital in Nonthaburi, because that is where Prince Hohenlohe (not Lichtenstein) died. He was also not refused medicine for diabetes, because even neither he himself nor his family knew that he had diabetes. Only tests in the prison hospital confirmed diabetes, and he was straight away transferred to a nearby private hospital.

But let truth not spoil a good story. :)

    Wrong!!!!!

He was in building 1 of Bangkok Remand Prison.

This is around late July or early August 2007.

He was never taken any further than the prison clinic not even to the next door Prison Hospital.

I know because I helped carry him there.

He told us he was waiting for medicine to be brought in.

And I was still there a few days later when the Swiss Embassy came for an inspection of the building after the tragic incident.

They moved most of the prisoners out of the building that day to show the prison wasn't so overcrowded.

The truth is sad enough !!!!!!!!!

And now we can compare two points of view:

    -google view

    -real world view

Truth is - he was in jail for trivial matter in country where murderers do not go to jail,if they have influential fathers. He was passe royalty!

In Europe - in media,he died in Thai jail, and there - he was known as royalty.Medical help in Thai jail?read some books, plenty of them in bookstores, some are

interesting reading. You can also see,if you did not see it yet - old TV movie "Bangkok Hilton".

    And he had Lichtenstein passport.

  14. You forgot to update the Wikipedia page. None of your information is listed on the wiki page. The only mention of it as a date rape drug is as the plot of a TV show.

    It's still here.. Wikidoc

    fwkums.jpg

Mrparanoid! You came here to help me.I had twice experience of this sort in my life,I described them here as example, but some dudes just laughed at me."Pigs are fed and ready to fly" - I was told!

This subject is coming out second time recently and it is sensational, but not funny at all.It is not funny to be victim.

Scopolamine - which you had mentioned,is very easy available as drug,if you know - what is its use and name and it is even more easy to find as raw material,if you know - what is the source. It had been used in South America by gangs to make people to part away with their precious possesions. You need some know-how,however.

Yesterday I made post here about perfect strangers, which we bring home - against our mothers advices.Today - there is qui pro quo:

It is not in Thai news yet,but for sure you will hear it today:

OZ Navy signal officer, who came to LOS on official duty to attend conference - did not resist temptation! He left his very poshy hotel at 2am to NanaPlaza!

One hour later he came back with...perfect stranger. At breakfast time he realized, that "stranger" is gone as well as his i-pod,mobile etc. including his....what else?...his official military

notebook, with some OZ "Enigma" signal books inside. Now all LOS based spooks are looking for this notebook.I wish them good luck! What do you think - who will be the first?

I put my bet on Chinese.

  15. By the way, I'm sure if such a drug did exist, Bush and Cheney would've been pumping it into Gitzmo prisoners, Bin Laden would have been caught on a toilet in Hawaii somewhere and Obama would never have been allowed to win the election...

Amigo! They pumped water, they admitted it;are you sure - it was only water?

somebody already mentioned here one common drug - ethanol, which has similar effect;you never tried this on yourself?go to bar and do it!

There are many common substances with same action, some of them - common knowledge. One of them makes you to give away

    everything to friends and strangers,I saw it!.It has been described in very old novel-"Guliver's Travels".Have you heard about "true pills"?;

have you heard saying:'biez vodki nierazbieriosh!"(which means:"to undress her,first-you have to make her drunk")??I presume - this one everybody tried!

  16. In reading the OP, I am a bit confused. Why would the BMA being paying Australia for firetrucks from Austria?

That's what I thought, unless they were routed through Australia for some reason, or perhaps an Australian office of the Austrian company? A bit more explanation on this would be good.

it is common mistake in Asia:Austria/Australia;very often they do not know the difference!

  17. Was I the only one who had a mum that said don't take candy from strangers and never ever get in a car with one............

So,why?oh why? all present in this forum including myself -go to sleazy bars, pick up some fluzzy-perfect stranger and bring her home to indulge in great deal of intimacy for the rest of the night?Did not your mamma tell you many times not to do it?Why you not listen?

  18. I am a licensed medical professional who regularly uses anaesthetics and can assure you there is no drug on earth that can: 1) leave you awake enough to walk and sign your name *and* 2) willingly do things you would not normally do. Research pharmacologists have been studying this for decades. GHB (gamma-hydroxy butyrate or the "date rape drug") as well as rohypnol or other benzodiazepines leave you lightly to heavily sedated so you cannot resist an attack. But ... you certainly could/would not walk and legibly sign credit card receipts against your better judgement.

You can check this out with a licensed pharmacist or your doctor.

This story is full of other holes as well.

What really bothers me is the way authors such as this one malign entire populations of people by identifying a person of a particular nationality as being the bad guy, most of whom are upstanding good hearted people. For me this is a form of calculated bigotry. Be more skeptical, check out purported facts (the internet folks!), and most of all, please don't encourage it!

You are pro in medical science.I am not,but it happened to me.Nobody explained what.May be you will do?

It happened long time ago - KaoSan Rd

I arrived on tuktuk, street was empty,on the other side - another tuktuk and 2 Thai guys. One of them started to talk something to me walking in my direction.

I wanted to pay for ride - I had my purse in hand.

The next thing I remembered - my tuktuk driving away, driver with scared face;the other tuktuk going away with 2 Thai guys.

    I am alone.I do not have my purse!I lost 200B only.I thought - I had some delusion.

Three days later - I saw same 2 Thai guys in the same location - they run away seeing me.

    So? what did they use?

I made some researches and I know what. Not for public knowledge - but not very big secret.

  19. ^ 100% agree. Skype has sucked for several months, useless call quality and high rates compared to other VOIP systems, but handy as a text chat client.

The biggest problem with Skype is the fact, that it is too good!It snicks through all sorts of firewalls, they can not block it,even when they want very much;they try to disrupt it,and they can do it only to some extend.

Finests from many countries(loudests complains from BundesPolitzei) - cry:"we can not listen!".

They can not listen! - this is the problem!

Of course - another problem is loss of profits to free calls.

I like it,because of video connetion;works like a dream, and it makes big difference in keeping family ties alive.

I wish all Skype adversaries to rot in hel_l!

  20. I assume your for real and this is not a troll ?

Oh anyway, its like this, Thai trains don't go round corners, so you will have to get off at Nakhon Ratchasima and change to the North Eastern line to get to Buriram.

    Have fun. :)

there is small corner to cut:you can change train in Jeera Junction saving 20 minutes. You better take express train on sector Korat-Buriram,local train takes 2 times longer(express

is about 80 min.) local bus even longer!then that.Bus transport on this sector is really poor.On short sector Korat-JeeraJunction you can enjoy close view of local slum along railway tracks, very authentic, almost Bombay.

  21. Since we are mentioning TV images.

Is it really any better in your own country?

Prisons like Quantanamo Bay and Abou Ghraib come to mind??

I am persistent about this subject.Chains in Thai jails are famous(infamous - exactly).

They became icon or symbol and they should be changed.

If you look on pictures from US TV - you will see shackles which are made of stainless steel, very shiny

and clean.Thai jail chains are rusty, dirty and they create infections. They were good in XIX century.

In every country in Asia they have better shackles, then in LOS.

Now we have XXI century, another Millenium.

These rusty irons are disgrace for Thailand and they should be changed!Everybody knows it,everybody agrees with it,there is only inertia and lack of funds to do it.There is no question about it.

You argue - because you think, that that you are above the law and you will never go to jail here?

It can happen to anybody here,if you are unlucky;even some Thai police generals ended up there,

your feeling of security is false - times are changing.
