  1. I'm surprised that something like this hasn't happened on the BTS by now. I have never had my bags or luggage checked when entering a BTS station. I also haven't seen anyone else checked. Personally, I think that the lack of security is terrible and have always expected it to happen on a BTS service. I know this is aside from this terrible event. I just hope that this highlights the fact that if people can bomb the centre of Bangkok then surely they can cause maximum carnage on the BTS system if people aren't checked on a regular basis.

I know this is a little beside this subject but I just wanted to highlight that fact.

RIP the deceased and condolences to their families.

Have you been expecting the BTS to be bombed? If so why do you continue to use it? Very strange comment.

Not really a strange comment. It doesn`t take much imagination to see BTS, as well as many other things/places, being attractive targets. If you`re living in BKK, then it`s difficult not to use the BTS unless you want to be stuck in traffic half the day.

Strange to me that if you were expecting something bad to happen then you would continue to use that same service

It's just the same as I take the odds of an aeroplane crashing every every time I board, Dezy1801. It's not very likely but there is that chance. But when I talk to a c**t then I know that next time I speak to him there's much more chance that the same kind stupid chat will evolve. I've made this exception for you out of the kindness of my heart. Don't expect it again with a comment like that.

  4. I could be wrong but i think you only need a certificate of Residance when buying ? The plate from a different province is no problem .I just bought a Bangkok registered bike here in Chiang mai .They do the name change and also the reg .plate change ,under the same transaction .Its the buyer that deals with that .

That would be great if that's correct. And it seems logical because I had to fill out the form that the previous owner didn't give me which made things a bit of a problem. It's called the 'Right Of Attorney'? And I wasn't asked to provide his residency permit.

Hopefully someone else who has had a similar experience can chime in as well

  5. To sell you will need a residency certificate and forms filling in, can be sold and reg changed in Bangkok, loads of threads on here..

Another thing that is pissing me off is that I had a residency certificate that I used to register the bike in Phuket and the ministry of transport kept it when I changed the green book. Surely they should have just photocopied it or something. Thought nothing of it at the time. Could prove crucial now though.

The certificates only valid for three months. Most of the time, I get 2x and end up ripping the photo off and throwing the spare one.

Everything is worth a shot. Didn't you copy it yourself ?

My local DLT accepted a photocopy of a 6 month old paper once when registering a bike, in fact they told me to produce it rather than type up a request letter to immigration. Last week I used a 4 month old original to get a 5 year license, blagging the front desk that the guy in the other room said it was fine.

I didn't photocopy it unfortunately. I took it upon myself to do the whole process myself and the guy I bought it off didn't give me all the documents that I needed and he'd already returned to his home country. So I was just happy to get the green book registered in my name.

In hindsight, I would just have paid the Thai garage in Patong to do it for me. And having read this I would have photocopied the Residency Certificate.

We live and learn I suppose. I should have done my homework really.

  7. Edit: also you shouldn't need a plate to ride your bike around Bangers. To my knowledge there is no need to change the plate until the tax and rego is due. Otherwise how would you be able to ride bikes around Thailand if you needed a new plate everywhere you went

Yeah I just don't want to mess anyone around when they try and change the green book to their name and find they can't because of whatever.

  8. Mate I went through a similar process when I bought a bike in buri ram and took it.up to Udon. In my case which I think would be the same for everyone, the onus was on me. After I changed the green book over into my name I paid a registration fee and got plates for Udon. Shouldn't be a drama for you to sell but probably less hassle if you could sell it to a Thai rather than a foreigner. Good luck

Cheers mate. If I had time I'd actually change the plate but it's going through the whole certificate of residence thing and then the rest of the process. I don't actually think I can get a residency certificate on this 30 day entry stamp anyway. Wasn't a problem on the tourist visa though.

Yeah I suppose its probably better to try and sell it to a Thai or post it back to Phuket and spend a few days holiday down there to sell it before I fly back home.

    Thanks for the reply anyway

  9. I posted my motorcycle up from Phuket for my final spell in Bangkok with the intention of selling it before I leave for home.

I've now found out that I need a different plate for Bangkok. I had no idea.

Is there any way I can sell it in Bangkok? I have no time to go through the process of getting new plates.

I have the green book in my name and fully taxed.

Also, I'm on a 30 day visa which I got from a border run. Will this affect me being able to sell it? I was on a tourist visas before this.

    Thanks.

  10. Sounds like Preecha

It does - except there is no 'big screen' there, nor at any of the other Ban Amphur restaurants that I can think of.

Also, OP does not say the direction of travel along Sukhumvit road.

Away from Pattaya Tai we turned right onto Sukhumvit Road.

  11. Thanks guys. The big screen isn't important, it was just trying to give you an idea of which restaurant it was. But you knew that I know.

The restaurant wasn't actually on the seafront. If I remember rightly we turned right at an intersection and we could see the sea from the restaurant. It was close but not right on the seafront.

I'll look into Preecha. Even if it's not the same one, would you recommend it?

  12. I was taken to a seafood restaurant by a girl a few years ago but I can't remember the location. It was really popular amongst Thai people and by the sea. It was about 20 or 30 minutes drive along Sukhumvit. It had a big screen and the seafood was alive in tanks at the entrance.

Hopefully one of you has been there and can give me the name of this restaurant?

  13. So being from the UK I will get 30 days which I can extend for 30 more days?

Will I need to provide an outgoing airline ticket?

Will it be a problem that I have a lot of tourist visas?

Also, what is required as proof of ongoing journey? Is it just a print off of the confirmation email?

I understand that the tourist visa is only 1k but it's the cost and hassle of getting to another country to get it considering I'm in Phuket.

  14. Having had multiple double entry tourist visas over the past few years, my time here in Thailand is now coming to an end for the moment. I'm looking at another 2 months here and I was wondering if I would just be able to do 2 back to back border runs instead of going through the whole tourist visa process. The reason I ask is that I'd heard they'd clamped down in the past on multiple visa on arrivals and I was wondering if it is still in effect.

  15. let me understand. if you were staying permanently you would look for a much higher bracket however short term you are looking at 7K. normally one would expect to pay much more for only a couple of months and a more reasonable price for long term

He just needs a place to crash and is going to be out and about all day in holiday mode. Long term expats spend more time at home.

This is correct. I won't be there much so I'm looking for a cheap option.

If I were to make it my long term home then I would be looking at somewhere more expensive.

  16. KTA mansion has 7k options, allows monthly, that's very central 100m from Ekkamai BTS. Down Sukhumvit soi 42 and hang a left.

Is it nice, no, but it fulfils the criteria OP asked, max 7k, doesn't need to be near a BTS (this one is though) and month to month contract.

The guys talking about 70k apartments and 6k kennels are total <censored>, why do you need to make yourself feel good by putting other people down who spend less on housing.

If OP had asked for a modern style, nicely furnished, western standard place near a BTS, I'd have politely said you're looking at 20k Baht on a long term lease, e.g. Noble Solo Thonglor, or for 1 month drop your standards a bit and try Liberty Place or Ascella on Soi 22 / Soi 38 respectively for about the same.

Thanks. I've heard of KTA before but forgot about it. I'll check that one out too.

If I was planning on staying permanently I would be looking at a higher price bracket but I'm not going to be in it much.

I have a few places to look at now so thanks for your input so far everybody.

  17. There are tons of apartments in Bangkok in this price range. Like I said, I have transport so I can consider being further away from the BTS/MRT where the prices skyrocket.

As for your comments, Mascara bertha, I'm not sure why you needed to make them at all. If you have no input then just move along.

I'm currently living in Phuket and want somewhere cheap for a few months to visit Bangkok whilst the weather here isn't so good.

I know there are good, clean places out there in this price range and hopefully I'll get some people with some up to date info as to where the best of these are.

If you don't know anywhere, maybe it's best not to answer at all as it doesn't help

  18. A comfortable apartment in Bangkok is going to set you back 60-70k a month. You're off the mark by a factor of 10. You clearly don't have sufficient funds to live in a major global city like Bangkok. My recommendation is to stay in your own country, because Thailand is obviously out of your price range.

Well seeing as though I've been living here in Thailand for the best part of 5 years now, I think I can gauge for myself what I can and cannot afford thank you.

If you have no recommendations or positive input then your comment is irrelevant to me, sir. Thanks all the same.

  19. Might help to know something about what you expect to get for Baht 7000. Studio, one bedroom? A/C? Furnished? Including utilities & monthly service charges? Internet connection? etc.

Baht 7,000 per month sounds rather low for anything remotely central and with any kind of services.

A studio, air-con, furnished but I can buy my own bed sheets if I need to. Water, electric and internet I'll pay for.

I've spent some time living at Vasan Mansion and The 20 apartment at On Nut in this price range so I have these places to fall back on if needed. I was hoping to try somewhere new this time around.
