As some people I know were doing exactly that with their UK bank 'income'. That is why the BE have said they cannot 'verify' the incomes, but the Thai IO want them to.

If as Sirieou and you are saying, retirees are simply withdrawing and depositing the same 65,000 baht each month and therefore cheating on the income requirements could I ask what they are to use to buy their food, pay their rent, put fuel in their vehicles, etc, etc each and every month they live here?

My personal experience for the cost of living in Thailand is that I use nearly all of the 65,000 each month for these expenses, so I can not be doing what you say.

  2. I recently had to complete  my 90 day reporting in Chiang Mai. I took a chance and went to the office in the afternoon, arrived at 1:50 PM. there were still queues available and i was given number 118. I walked in to the building and sat down to wait as there were several people inside. I figured and hour or maybe two. Well as I sat down they called my number, I was agast!, never had that happened before. I had prepared all the forms correctly prior to arriving so I handed them to the officer and he had a very brief look at them before printing my confirmation and handing my passport back to me.

At the risk of being called

"PAUK WAN"  thank you Chiang Mai immigration for that experience.

I switched to retirement visa a few years ago, saves a lot of hassle. Not sure now but think the first time the wife had to come with me.

I'm extra lucky as my immigration office is hardly ever busy and I can usually be in and out with annual extension in under half an hour.

I honestly feel for some of you guys that have to arrive at crack of dawn at your office and then have a whole day of hassle, with no guarantee of success.

    where did you read this?

I would also like to know where did you read this?? I just recently received my extension from CM immigration. I only needed to present my (US) embassy form for proof of income at the time. Several years ago I was told that they might start asking for a certified bank statement the following year, but, when that year arrived no such request was forthcoming.

  5. I am off to get my proof of income form from the USA embassy today. I heard from a friend that it is possible to use any notary public, (Thai approved), on this form. Can anyone on the forum advise me if this is possible before my next visit to the Embassy? I think Thailand is much less expensive than USA cosul for notary service.

  6. The immigration dept. had a chance to revamp and really improve the system when it changed locations. However it didn't and it is still a nightmare just to complete the 90 day reporting. The second time I used Promenada site I was there for 8 hours.

I also just went for my visa extension and just in case I thought I would go early. 4:30 AM should do right? Wrong I was number 25 in the line. Finished at 11:30 AM. That's seven hours just to complete an extension.

But, Thailand didn't ask me to move here. It was a voluntary act on my behalf. So, who am I to complain.

  7. this habit of sweeling burning corn stubble has been in effect all over the world for decades because there has never been any alternatives .

And yet post 11 suggests there is!

    Also : http://thefarmerslife.com/environment/what-is-no-till/

Corn silage is a great cattle foodstuff. It is simply corn stalks cut and piled into a storage place, covered and wait for it to ferment. This is the reason cattle love it, it is in essence corn liquor. After eating it the cattle will be slightly drunk. OOPS, The Thai farmers might also eat it huh??

  8. What excuse do farmers in Isaan have for burning fields of sugar cane; both before cutting and or after? The pollution is wide spread.

In Thailand sugar cane is harvested by hand, with a machete. You cannot walk down a row of cane and cut the stalks unless the leaves are burned off first because the leaf edges are so sharp they will cut you to shreds as you walk. Therefore they are burned prior to harvesting.

  9. rolleyes.gifwhistling.gifblink.png

28,000 Farmers borrowed 4 Billion Baht, that is roughly 1,42,857.14/Head. I don't think any small farmers will borrow such a money.

Anyhow good for bringing happiness to the pockets!

I think you have got your comma's wrong??

It is about 140.000/farmer. Not a very astronomical amount!!

I think you got your decimal point in the wrong place. My calculator says 140 million per farmer.

  10. I think your comment makes you a squirming maggot. But that's just my opinion.

Pheu Thai are really just a bunch of squirming maggots, how did such a repulsive group of humans ever get to be in charge of the whole country?

& they got to run the country because they were elected in a general election.

Squirming maggots get into power by doing backroom deals in the army barracks.

You forgot to claim that there was no vote buying in this election laugh.png

The Dems have shed loads of money. They are the elite after all and they make Mr. T look poor so if it came down to vote buying why didn't they win? Don't be naive and claim the Dems are above buying votes.

The truth is this whole vote buying thing has been shown to be irrelevant except to people who rely on it to undermine the democratic decision of the Thai people.

If you make posts like that you should be prepared to prove , if you have proof of your claims please post it.

If not can not then you are just another troll.

Are not all TV posters not actually trolls? After all we are all looking for a like or quote of our postings. So we are trolling for more posts to our posts.

  11. Former commerce minister Boonsong was also faulted for involvement in four other fake G-to-G rice deals with four Chinese firms. The deals involved 14 million tonnes of rice.

Nice how this one is sitting as an afterthought at the bottom. 14mn tonnes? Huh?

Meanwhile, 65,000 tonnes is going to bring the house down it seems. What a joke.

If my calculator is correct, the 14000000 tons mentioned at the bottom of the article is only worth-----176,985,074,626.865baht. That's 176 billion folks, or to us plain folks---- $5,462,502,303.2983

  12. Won't make any difference to the hundreds of thousands of expats here, will it? I will just go on paying 4X what Thais pay for dr visits and meds and pray I do not have a serious health problem. Neither My US military retiree insurance nor my US Medicare insurance is good in Thailand and I surely cannot afford the $500 a month one international insurance bandit quoted me. No matter though because I still do not grasp the intricacies of Thai healthcare for eve my wife;s poor family, who seem to have to first see the local doctor and then get a written referral before they can go to the next larger hospital. The only service I know my wife and her family get for free is teeth extraction

Good article from the Nation newspaper. This is the type of stuff that Thailand needs the Nation to print. Yes, a newspaper that is calling for the same standards for EVERYBODY. Same standard of healthcare available to all. It might not happen, because Thais who have got money might start saying "I pay more into the system, why should I subsidise people who are poor".

And good to see that the Nation has thrown in politics into the situation. The Nation actually wrote "since the junta-led government is promising real reforms, will it be able to set a standard and ensure quality healthcare services for one and all ?"

If the junta was to actually carry this out, then yes, they will win the next general election. Let's all urge the junta to actually carry this out. Massive credit for the Nation for bringing this up.

Actually Bigfarang, Tricare will reimburse here if you do the proper paperwork beforehand.
