The editorial is preposterous rubbish. It never occurred to this editor once that the reasons that the reason "Thais too easily forgive and forget" is because the newspapers let these issues drop under pressure, incompetence, or plain unwillingness to do follow up and investigative journalism and pound the table.
There are countless examples and illustrations of shoddy journalism and no presence of good reporting on numerous cases. Just pick up a copy of The Nation and select a story that should be grounds for following the law and right and wrong. When the offenders know that the newspapers won't follow up if they are privileged, then all they have to do is wait it out or get the newspaper to divert to another topic. The hypocrisy is preposterous.
As a case in point, take the Red Bull Ferrari case of cop killing, obstruction of justice, hit and run, drunk driving, bribery, corruption and abuse of power. What happened to that case? Where are the indictments? Where is the relentless newspaper follow up? Get serious The Nation, the newspaper is a farce. There is a powerful flatulence pervading the editorial offices of The Nation. and everyone know it and smells it.
Thai at Heart, Orac, clockman and 3 others like this Like This Unlike
. And so you think the newspapers are at fault for Thailand's lack of justice!!! WOW you sure have your thinking cap on a different side than I have mine.

It will be good to putfaces to names, so my wife and i will be there.

Does the Thai government not hire competant engineers who can test these same canals on paper instead of actually releasing water from a dam into them, which in effect puts human life at risk??

Then perhaps it is time for the USA to have a control when people board an airplane in the USA so their criminals stay there.
Are you perhaps saying that only the USA has criminals that are going abroad?? Are you for real?

I copied and pasted this sentence from the article,
"Thaksin spent hours listening and talking to the chamber members through an Internet video link at a Bangkok hotel."
How is it that the Nation knew where he was and the Thailand police department did not? And if they knew where he was why did they not arrest him for the fugitive that he is?
And what is he trying to do? He's a convicted felon on the run, banned from being in politics for 5 years, is he trying to get the party dissolve? Anyway higher minimum wages would mean higher prices on the retail side. Lowering taxes would help the poor but it'll mean less money for the gov't to use, and with the vol. of corruption here it'll be a disaster.
Breaking into chinese and indian market would be great, if you prefer quantity over quality.Lots of people but very few with the money.
Donmuang for private jet hub? how many private jets are there. Some local company with jets typically fly from suvannapoum, having a direct link to the international flights. Plus didn't they tried to make donmuang into a low cost hub?
Let the idiot talk. He'll get himself into trouble again. I'm sure the EC is itching to use his speech as a ground to lengthen his ban or dissolve the party.

of course its not right to run away from the accident!! but the message should be don't swim outside the swimming zone!! if you do you could get hit by a jetski or boat etc etc<div><br></div><div>Why the "jetski's must be banned" attitude, like others say, this is thailand and here you need to open your eyes and your brain watch where you are going and take responsibility for your self, not look at blaming others for everything that goes wrong which is what happens in the western world!!!</div><div><br></div><div>hope the Russian guy recovers soon!</div><div><br></div>
So, because he was swimming outside the swimming zone it is ok to run over and kill him, right?????? Then it would be ok to run over and kill you when you jaywalk downtown also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't this this same schlemiel who "doesn't respect farangs?"
And his criticism of the cruise line is ludicrous. The tuk-tuk drivers have about as much right to scam cruise ship passengers as I do. *Libelous statement edited out*
When the passengers do get scammed, they blame the cruise line (and could easily sue them - and win) and then guess what? The cruise line avoids Phuket next time.
His comments about foreigners scamming foreigners and Thais and foreigners scamming foreigners is pandering to the Thais listening who might bristle on the notion that they are anything but a nation of honest, hard-working, racist licentious hypocrites.
At least the leadership is maintaining the standards of ineptitude.
Is there any difference in the Thai public scamming tourists versus the Thai government scamming tourists? IE: tourist pricing for entering national parks and lower Thai pricing for the same entrance?

so, You are saying most Farangs are spys? GET A LIFE
I agree with the deputy PM's assessment as well. Western NGOs and their members are often as crooked as they come and fronts for intelligence agencies.

It’s illegal to drive a car in Thailand if you’re not wearing a shirt
It’s against the law to leave your house in Thailand if you’re not wearing underwear
It is truly a shame that we are required to wear underwear in Thailand. Because as I understand this it means that every monk in Thailand is breaking the law with their habits.

I am not a seasoned member here - but if I may - I thought that some civility was here - no hang-em-high - all that - but nothing in this is factual if you have to use alias' - and if this pervert has been indicted before and has a past news piece - then why all the clandestine wording
if there are corrupt judges and this guy has committed a crime and not punished - then the world needs to know the facts and show to the world what the Thai justice system is all about - expose them for what they are
It seems that the police need to start a new investigation of the involved parties here. From the attorneys to the judge.

I really thought that I remembered Thaksin saying he would buy every first grader a tablet if he was re-elected!!
Why does Thailand need a loan to buy them if he is??
