  1. Hey there

    I will come to Thailand as normal Tourist (Tourist Visa) with a one way ticket and have bought a ticket over Airasia to leave to Singapore after a month. Will this be valid to get in to Thailand? I booked everything online with electronic tickets.

    Thanks

    Chris

    If you have a Tourist Visa which you say you have , you will have no problem.

    If you do not have a Visa , your flight on Air Asia must be within 30 days of your arrival. Or you may not be allowed on the flight to Bangkok.

    ===================

    depends which side of the bed everyone got of... I had the following exp with a non Im -o retirement extension ( valid about 12months):

    I had a single with KLM. In Newcastle UK they wouldnt let me on the flight. I offered to buy onward flight KLM to S/pore they said NO, I had to hold 'return to UK'. I eventually had to buy ANOTHER ticket this time 'return'. They then said the flight (Amsterdam to BKK) was full. I argued it couldnt be as my seat was empty.....I was so angry I was making matters worse...but I had to claim I was leaving on the single seat and ....and I got my own seat back.

    At Suvarnabhumi I checked with the senior officer on call and he said Mai ben rai ( dont care, never mind) as far as he was concerned a single was ok

  2. Luckily I still have the 400k in the bank option and the 40k+ per month is just a backup since my 400k in the bank is a bit tight this year, not money-wise, but a bit tight with the 2 months being on the day my visa expires, so I wanted to have a backup method just in case.

    ==========

    By the time you have chased round the immigration offices your 400 will have been in the bank for the required 3 months.

    good luck

  3. Don't forget that immigration now have you allocated to a particular (regional) office. Check in advance where your required office is. So computerisation helps Thai admin but doesn't give you freedom to choose the office.

    I guess that the reasoning is twofold.

    1) They get to know you ( and become more trusting?)

    2) Takes the weight off the popular offices.

  4. but seems Phuket is moving up on the danger scale :o

    Just left Patong beach in Phuket.. it's definitely going irrational: one midnight motorcycle taxi gave me a lift for 32 baht ( all I had on me) the next night same idea a guy wanted 150baht. I refused to pay but he got so angry I offered him 100baht then he actually attacked me...hit me with his helmet n( sounds like a bad joke hehum)..

  5. Wondering if there was any advice or things I should know in advance for this transition.

    ==============================

    Why in the world do you want to be with someone that you don't trust 100% or you don't understand 100%? F that really!

    ================================

    This is the first sensible comment. The question is pretty stupid and the answers probably putting your (Zens ) back up. When people hear my stories they come out with the classic 'That wont happen to me!!' But it does happen and there is no protecting against it UNLESS the people in the relationship put eachother first. The Thai will never put the partner first because they are working the culture that places community above self. That means they will laugh at your problems ( maybe not out loud)

    They say Mai ben rai ( never mind) when you are the one hurt etc.

    If you have trust then that should prevent certain problems, like: the brother who wants to stay is actually her husband. The sisters baby is actually their own...

    Most Farangs picking up a girl are not only getting a bedmate but often more importantly a translator. In my case the wife is my go between. Between me and the shop keepers the telephone companies, the local authority etc. She is a companion but not a true friend. Her role is essential but not irreplacable. She gets an allowance but cant screw me. So if the question is do I have to love her to bits. The answer is 'its better if you dont'.

    The other thing to bring out in the open at the beginning is the house rules. What happens when the inevitable person wanting a loan/ to-borrow-the-car appears?

    If anyone is going to be a butterfly or cheap charlie sort it before moving in together

  6. ...where you live.

    What does this mean? I dont own (!) or am not registered officially anywhere. I stay in my girlfriends house in Singburi or in an apartment in Phuket for a month at a time. I give my address on any forms as the place where I am staying that night. I am expat with 12 month retirement extension visa. So where do I report for immigration purposes renewal of extension and 90 day address notification?

    Which address did you use when you applied for your current extesnion. That should be the one you use for the next one. Although it probably does not matter as long as you go to the office where you are living at the time. I think I would choose the office that is the least crowded and/or gives the best service.

    I think for you the best one would be Phuket since Singburi is a long way from any office.

    For 90 days reports I think you can make them at about any office for now or mail them in. It is just a matter of wait and see how they are handled.

    An earlier post talked about the punter having to transfer his file by collecting it from one immig office to register at another. Lets hope we are spared such nonsence....ah excuse me mr immig man but next year I will be in Phuket so can I please can I have my file as I wont be using you any more.

  7. I have been through 4 annual extensions for retirement reaons and have never paid a bribe. I think you are overstating things when you use the term 'routinely'...unless it applies to a single office somewhere in this Kingdom...but I doubt that it applies across the board.

    I agree. I've done 6 and never had a problem. I suppose it helps if you turn up with all the correct paperwork. :o

    I was at a regional immig office and the officer behaved like a bar girl: Ok, he said, pay one million baht.

    My sphincter tightened.

    MY sullen silence cut his humour (!) short.........

  9. What have you been doing....hiding under a rock? Did you really have to bring this up.....they will all be in here in no time, having a good old pommie winge about it. :o

    Wonderful blog.....you're right, all the :

    Last time I remember..

    I don't believe it..

    My last ATM visit..

    I blame...

    not to mention the bent ear brigade:

    the fookits

    twatan cants

    My view is:nIts the old brigade they close the airports, let the baht climb, make visa access more difficult....

    havent seen any recent news about the baht devaluing. Which is interesting as I don't think the Thai reserves are that strong , last record was down to about 50 billion. Personally I am watching the old brigade....they like putting pressure on. look at the lot saying the Suvarnabhumi episode didn't hurt the thai economy. How does that mesh with Exports 3.5 billion baht loss per day, Hotels, Thai air, now the hospitals are screaming. yup the old thai farts are sitting in their gilded mansions watching and enjoying the mess...while the governments try to play the middle path

    and the oips will come out and say what abart me...

  10. Shallow is a word is used by people being passed over for that reason. So a fat person says your shallow if you prefer slim people. As said before we are all different and rthat includes our tastes. I learned somewhere that we are interested in sight (visual),touch ( kinisthetic) or hearing ( aural). So if you like girls in uniform you are drawn to the visual aspect, If you prefer a cuddle then your kinisthetic. having these traits is not shallow any more than prefering the sour mango to the sweet one. generally opposites attract. This doesn't mean we want a partner with no common language or interests but having differences in a partner does help to break habits( the dredded rut), so the intravert gets out more the urbanite explores the countryside all because the partner suggests it

    If you are Thai and you like white girls then you may have a cultural difference and you may find opposition, but give it a try. You wont know until you try.There must be about 200 million girls all different so dont be put off by a few bad experiences. Try learning the difference between say girls from Australia, America and England; they are very different.......But start soon before you lose the inquisitiveness...
