  1. I think the most alarming point on these proposed new fees is the disparity between the actual cost and the fee charged, this proves once and for all that this is nothing more than a money making exercise.

Also I note the almost 200% increase, from £585 to £1680 for a dependent relative, I presume this would be charged in the event of a Thai wife settling in the UK with her children from a previous relationship.

  2. I use the train everyday, and the way Thai's just push pass you to make sure they get on before you, this kind of thing was always going to happen at some point!

Thai's are just so ignorant at times! No manners, whatsoever!

I am always impressed by the orderly lines at the station but note that as soon as the doors open it's like the red lights have gone off at the start of a F1 race, it's everyone for themselves with most people fighting to get on the train first.

I commuted on the London Underground for years and my experience was that it wasn't very different, save they dispensed with niceties of the queue.

  3. As Lite Beer says this firm is a scam company and you had a lucky escape, others have not been so lucky.

You could inform the British Embassy but whilst they will probably ignore the complaint, or even acknowledge it, there has been an official report showing concerns about this practice, and they may ignore it at their peril.

The UK Visas does warn about the use of agents, but these people are very convincing.

  4. We asked for a 6 month tourist visa for a 6 month visit. Granted.

Heathrow border asked lots of questions to a 6 month holiday.

He called his boss. Who said go with the visa in the passport allowed us in.

This is a good point and one that should always be remembered, a visa only allows you to travel but doesn't guarantee that you will be admitted into the country.

In this case Mark did it by the book, a six month visit was applied for, they were able to convince the ECO that it was a genuine visit and the visa was issued. The IO at the port of entry queried the length of the visit and referred it to his CIO, a case has to be referred if refusal is being considered, and in the case of refusing a visa holder they have to be satisfied that there is a material change since the visa was issued. A couple of points worth remembering, the IO's have access to the original application, there is a hand written number which refers to the case number, though I am not sure if the details are available electronically yet, also the IO has the power to search luggage for evidence that a longer visit than than declared.

  5. You don't need a tourist visa, or any other kind of visa, to get an account with internet banking at Kasikorn.

I had the standard 30 day on arrival stamp, nothing more,

They are one and the same thing.

Actually, they are not the same thing, even though most people think they are. A tourist visa is a formal and separate category, like sports, educ, medical, etc, and the arrival stamp is simply that. (even though at the airport its called "visa on arrival").

Sorry to be pernickety but for the avoidance of doubt the "visa on arrival" is a visa which is issued to some visa nationals on arrival before they clear immigration; whereas an arrival stamp is put in the passport of everybody clearing immigration, be they passengers with visas, tourists who can enter visa free and even Thai nationals returning home.

  6. Eventually the operations manager at Chiang Mai gave me the name, number and email of a responsible person in Bangkok and I could get the promised refund after four or five calls and emails. I remember once being told, "Sorry sir, refund machine is broken!"

Do you have that responsible persons contact number?

My emails remain unanswered and I am blowed if I will just forget it, it's become a matter of principal now, it's a pitty really because I quite like Air Asia.

  7. I have a Kasikornbank web debit card. These are issued by Kasikornbank specifically for use in internet transactions, to reduce the risk of fraud. There is no physical plastic card, they just tell you the numbers to use. You can change the credit limit on-line, so normally you leave it set to zero and when you want to use it, you set the limit appropriately.

So what happens if I use this card to buy tickets? I always use it with Air Asia and have never had a problem.

Those are not 'real' credit card and can not be used to purchase tickets online with any airline. You wont be able to provide the card during check-in. Again, this is not a Thai or Thai Airways thing. This procedure is done by almost any carrier.

Except that I have used mine previously with Bangkok Airways and Air Asia for on-line bookings without any problem, I accept that I might not be able to use it with Bangkok Airways after this new rule has been implemented.

  8. Whoa whoa whoa, so you're saying her boss is correct? That I can in fact just show up to the embassy with her and that will somehow help her visa application? I'm very happy to hear that we can re-apply anytime. Thank you all for that, really lifted my spirits! I'm ready and willing to go to BKK and show up at the embassy if it will help her application somehow......is that what you were saying?

Not quite, he was correct in saying that she can apply staight away but you cannot just pitch up at The Embassy, the application is exactly the same as before and has to be submitted the same way.

  9. First of all I'm sorry your girlfriend was refused, but whilst the good news is that she doesn't need to wait six months before she can re-apply, and that is is a fact, she needs to address the reasons for the refusal.

If the ECO has stated that a four month break seems unrealistic, which you will have to admit it does, she needs to address that.

A future application, which can be made immediately, needs to satisfy the ECO that she wants to go on a genuine visit, and I have to say I have never managed a four month holiday, and that there are compelling reasons for her return. Kennkate is absolutely right, if she doesn't address the reason for return, she will be refused again. But whilst it does seem that he/she has not read all the evidence a future application needs to push the point of her going to college.

Property would be a plus, but not essential, she really needs to convince the ECO that it's a genuine visit and that she has a compelling reason to return. I have to say that if I was an ECO I would take some convincing that the length of the visit was genuine, so that's what she needs to do.

It would seem that her boss has hidden skills and there may be an opening for him in the future, as he is certainly correct.

Feel free to ask more questions prior to a fresh application is submitted there is a wealth of knowledge on this site, even if the posters are not Immigration Officers - well not all of them.

  10. I always thought an agent was cheaper but it's not always the case. I wanted to fly to Singapore later in the month, I checked the Cathay Pacific website and they quoted me 13,100 for two people for return flights, I went into one agent, and called a couple of others and they all said that fare was no longer available, but they could offer me SIA or Thai at about 17,000 - Air Asia was 16,500 on the day I wanted. I then went back home and booked the "no longer available" cheap fare online. Not a lot in it really, but it certainly does pay to shop around.
