  1. I just did my 90 day report , sending it to the old address , and today I received the tm47 as usual.

I don't understand the map on the site , I think.

It looks like they moved 4 km further west om the nan-phayao road , and then a right turn?

How to get there from the old office ? Songteaw ? 4 km is a bit much to walk. I will come by minivan from Phrae.

In 3 weeks , I must renew my extention.

Any chance of google maps coordinates ?

  2. About 4 to 5 days now , sites outside of Thailand are slow. Especially in the evening. TOT squeezing the international connections ? Too many kids surfing/gaming online? Youtube very slow. But Thai websites blistering fast. Interestingly t@rr@nts get good speeds during the day.

Sent not via thaivisa app, but with old and secure winXP, suck it microsoft.

  3. I took the car to K.C 6 years ago. On the ferry, the cars are parked very, very close together. One of you should stay with the car cause you need to keep an eye out for thais banging their doors or bags against your car.

The scary came later. When arriving there , you go up in a 90 degr turn at a steep angle. You ( well I was) not alone and cars right in front and behind you when you take that turn. I was so surprized , was in wrong gear and the motor stopped ! On that steep angle , started the car , all breaks on and take the turn . Very scary.

It was years ago , it may now have been changed.

Roads were narrow and parking is a problem when you saw a nice beach and wanted to stop to take a look.

  4. I just had it ( herpes zoster) in september last year. According to my mother I didn't have chickenpox as a child.

I do use badly washed towels from the motel..I don't know where I got it from. I just turned 50.

Hurts like hell for a week , aspirines help a lot. Nightmare nights . After 4 days went to the doc and got a lot of pills.

It took 3 months to get my skin back to normal . I let the motel know because there was a young child and when the blisters break , it is very contagous.

Reading other posts here , I think I had a milt case. Still not sure where I got it from.

Once you had it , small chance it will comeback. Thai doc + medicine = 479 THB.

Herpes zoster is bad but i use a cream the works perfect and ofcourse should work for everybody...Trok-N is the cream

Herpes is always there and can come back when you immune system is down so you should know that and better to have the cream handy

From what I have read ( on the medical internet sites) , is that vacination after you had it , won't benefit much.

So because of the cost and low chance the dormant virus comes back , I won't get the vacination.

I now know what the symptoms are and what to do about it. First time that kind of pain all alone in strange country, pretty scary. Thought I was dying...or a kidney stone or a crushed nerve in the spine , untill the rash came .

Hospital wanted me to come dayly for a dressing of the rash , but walking home , the sweat washed it off , so I didn't go again. (thanks foxteen : I copied the name of the cream , hopefully not to use...)

  6. I always buy the 5 kg cheap rice at Big C or Lotus. I check them in the store before buying. I have never seen any bugs in those packs. At home I pour the rice into dried-out 6 liter plastic water containers , from the singha or nestle water . Never bugs , but I do this to keep the ants out , it is airtight.

Catfood too holds well in those 6 l bottles. Ants and other bugs can't smell it and are not attracted to it.

And the 6 l bottles are free and easy to use.

  7. I went to the bank today. After the lady in charge asked me again for a 10 year life insurance , she told me that a new account was coming soon that gives more interest than I now have. So I asked how much more ? She said it wasn't decided yet , so I asked if it was to fund the rice loan....she smiled , didn't deny it.

It was the Krungsri bank .

Just great ! My 3 months before retirement extention begins....

And bummer ...The euro/Baht rate sucks. Last year I payed 38B/euro and sent it off to europe , now it's 44,5 ! Damm !.

  8. I need to go to Panthip and 2 banks in Silom and Rama 4....

What's the situation coming from Morchit with the 77 bus to Silom , past the Victory monument !!! and around Lumpini park !!! to Silom road and then to Rama 4 road a bit east of the boxing stadium ? Do the busses ride on Rama 4 past Lumpini ?

Is everything normal in Panthip plaza ?

Why on earth would you want come all the way from Mo Chit on a BUS? There's a BTS station in Mo Chit that will get you to Silom 5 times faster than a bus.

Because I always took the easy bus 77 from Morchit to silom , it is cheap and I have lots of time (arriving with the nightbus to Bangkok at 5 in the morning.).

I didn't know that you can take BTS directly from the busstation....? I thought the park was between de Morchit and Phahonyotin road where the skytrain is , and that is too far to walk.

I thought there was a rally stage at Victory monument, both the 77 and BTS go around that circle...

  10. Maybe you must have seen me....I walk around with flattened back.

Simple : I don't like shoes or linnen shoes with laces. The ones I like (ADDA) , they don't make anymore , or very expensive for what they are. I also don't like the white plastic/rubber.

I also never drive with my shoes on. So I bought these cheap schoolboy linnen shoes with laces , and use them as lofers, with the back flattened. That way I can get in and out of the car easily and without fastening the laces.

I don't cut them off because the flattened back is nicer than the sole and does not wear so fast.

As most Thai only wear flipflops , this is definately a step up.

  11. Great , just today my external HDD WD My book essential 2 TB/ 3.0 USB , died.

Still within the 3 years warranty , but not looking forward to a expensive trip to WD service centre in Panthip Bangkok....

I'm up north too , but I don't think WD has a service centre here.

Second WD that bailed out on me in 2 years... sucks.

I read the Seagates are even worse.

And my favorites , Samsung , merged with seagate...

Don't know what to buy anymore!

  12. I agree and think you were lucky to get it two months early. A friend of mine was told to come back in one month as he applied 2 months early in Nan, they would not do it. On the other hand I just did mine in Nan about 10 days before expiry and it took about 30 minutes including a re-entry

    Hey Gerald,

I also do my retirement extension at Nan, and will be making my annual trip in June. May I ask if you brought a medical certificate among your paperwork? I have been getting one every year because I was told Nan is one of the few offices still requiring it. Just wondering if that is still true. It's a pain to get, and I'd rather skip it if Nan isn't asking for it anymore.

    No medical certificate was needed.

Thanks, but I'm asking specifically about the NAN office. Every branch is different, and Nan was still requiring the medical certificate last time I checked.

Hi , I am going this month for my first retirement extension in NAN.

I also want to know if they want the medical certificate , and is this the same one you get for the driver's licence?

Is it ok to bring the TM 7 printed on 2 papers or does it have to be 1 front and back paper?

How many photo's do they want for the extension only , no re-entry permit.

Do they want proof of residence?

And , do they accept bank letter for the 800k from the day before? Going first to the bank in Phrae and on the same day

with the bus to Nan , is difficult.

    Thanks

"You must use the immigration office responsible for your province for one year extensions of stay.

You do not give them departure card - you provide a copy of it.

Photo size is 4x6cm and attached to rear of TM.7 form - upcountry they might want 1-3 so have extra.

Every location I know of other than Jomtien retirement is issued at same visit as application.

You normally need financial proof (bank passbook/letter and/or
Embassy letter of income and have other proof of that income in case
asked) photo copies of passport date page, visa, entry and any
extensions as well as departure card and have some proof of address.
Fee is 1,900 baht for TM.7 and if you expect best to pay for a re-entry
permit at 1,000 baht single or 3,800 baht multi entry."

On page 2 of TM7 it says you lose the 1900 thb whether they granted the extension or not.

What if you got all the right papers , but they won't give it?

    On TM7 :

arrived by : is this the bus you take to the im office? From: the place where you live in Thailand

Port of arrival ? I didn't cross a border, so what to fill in ?

What do you write as reason for the extension?

Stay for a period of 360 or 365 days , it doesn't ask for year.

I read in other posts a month before visa expires or your permitted stay ends?

So my non-o expires on 1st of june but allowed to stay (89 days) until june 6th.

If I do a border run before june 1 , can I apply in august for the extension too ?

Not to highjack the post , but I have had problems with the Nan office in the past and even asking for explanation

on filling in a document angers them.

    @ preacher

At my last notification of staying in his provinces , I added a letter to ask for the requirements for a complete application,

and they could send it back with a prestamped envelope with the return paper of the notification , but they didn't.

When I speak thai , they want me to speak english.

Maybe Uttradit immigration office will do Phrae too...I can only hope.

  14. I live in Uttaradit, and the Nan immigration authorities are wonderful. Been real nice to me,.... no problems. My tough luck Nan is at the end of the road up in the mountains a 3-4 hour drive from Uttaradit that is a much more central to the province location ... and on flat land with good 4 lane connections. Oh well,... it is a nice drive if you like driving in the mountains.

And it's only a twice a year drive,... with only once a year 5 hour drive to consulate in Chiang Mai for the notorized income paper.

But worth it to live in wonderful Thailand !

Next month , I'm going to the immigration in NAN for my first retirement extension.

For some reason I always have problems there. They are very rude to me there.

What exactly do they want for the paperwork ( specificly for NAN immigration) ?

How many photo's and what size ?

    1900 thb ?

In the same day , or comeback next day?

What about the arrival/departure card from the last entry ?

You don't have to do a border run , I hope , so do they stamp the old departure card with a new stamp or do they

    give you a new arrival/departure card ?

Can you go for your retirement extension at another immigration office than the one for your province ?

I live in Phrae , so can I go to Mae Sai if Nan won't give it to me?

  16. I've been using it for years , whenever I get a dry cough what won't go away.

Usually it is around 24 B for the 120ml bottle and has a long expiring date.

I can't take too much , or I will get stomach pain , but it is good stuff.

If you take it before you go to sleep , you sleep deeper too.

Took it to europe , asked in the farmacy there, but they didn't sell it because the opium.

There the anti-cough medicine costs 3 to 8 euro for something that doesn't work !

  17. I had a problem with the Nan office three years ago. The big boss there tried to extort a 3,000 baht "investigation fee" out of me. I ask for a government reciept and he said he could not provide it. I said no receipt, no money. He told me to wait in the outer office. I immediately called immigration in Bangkok, noted that the sign on the wall said something like "Do not pay more than 1,900 baht," and asked why they were trying to force me to pay a 3,000 baht investigation fee with no reciept. They said they would look into it. After awhile, the Nan office phones started ringing and my problem went away, although if looks could kill, I wouldn't be writing this.

I live in Phitsanulok, and thankfully a new office opened there the following year. I was not looking froward to a return visit to Nan -- motorcycle riding there, great, immigration office, not so good. The folks in the Phitsanulok immigration office are real decent.

The number of the Bangkok immigration you called , is that a specific number or the usual number

on their website? Do they speak and understand English well ?

It would be good to know for the future when I get myself in a similar position as you were.

  18. Thanks for an interesting point. The Thai immigration act , the Nan immi "so kindly " printed out for me , is the same as the one you find on their website and others. And it does not state "conditions as prescribed by the Director General" .

Yes I don't see myself driving up there to ask for that , because it would mean that I still doubt his "law " and try to find way out of it.

Even if the conditions as prescribed by the Director General make this distinction , I wouldn't dare to tell him.

He would lose more face , and I don't want to get blacklisted...

Your are right. You don't want to upset your local immigration office any further. Therefore, only for the record, the Immigration Act on the website of the Immigration Bureau also has that sentence about "conditions as prescribed by the Director General". See the screenshot below, with my red annotations.

    post-21260-0-62335400-1327186134_thumb.g

Yes i've read it before , but non of the 14 activities really apply to me.

If I stay 3 month at the time in the same place , I can't give them "touring or sporting " as a reason.

I don't think that "Study or observation " of Thai Motel life , will qualify...

  19. FlorC:"And I bet they will make trouble again, like where the 800.000 B must be,savingsaccount, or in funds...."

If you care to read the law, you signed, it clearly states: Savingsaccount. Doesn't matter if you have millions in funds, the law says the 800.000 B have to be in a savingsaccount at least 2 months before your first application. Do your homework, be a little humble and I am sure that your visits to immigration will be a positive experience. Like it or not, "they" have the power, and to challenge that is IMO plain stupid.

Again a matter of the strictness of the immigration . I've read on T.V. that some immigration offices

don't care whether you have the money on a savings account of fixed deposits of fixed funds.

800.000 B on an savings account gives you 0,75 % , fixed fund now about 3 % for 6 months.

From a S A you can get the money off the next day after you apply , the fixed ones , are fixed for the duration. So it seems that fixed accounts or funds would be safer for Thailand , than just the 2 month before application on a S.A.

The reason for this post was not to find a loophole or challenge their power , but to warn others that like me thought the border runs were enough , don't get the same treatment like me or worse: fines .

  20. OP wrote: "He wanted to know why I was given a non-o". Good question, as far as I can see, you are not qualified in any way....

Logical answer: "Because I applied for it"

Soi41, "O" stands for other, ie a purpose to visit Thailand other than the purposes given for all other types of visa. It is the restrictive guidelines apparently issued recently by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that now prevents consulates from issuing the multiple-entry non-O visa to people who wish to travel to Thailand frequently within a 12-month period for a duration of more than 30 days per visit for the purpose of tourism.

    How recently?

Does that mean that due to restrictive guidelines , I won't get a non-0 multiple entries anymore?

That is a big gap to fill between my return in june and my 50 th birtday in 2013 ....
