I've been doing this for many years (28/28). Just to be on a safe side I have two passports and alternate between them to enter Thailand. Never had any issues.

The government want to keep public transport well organised and provide convenience for tourists, especially in tourist destinations such as Phuket so they are going to face a crackdown.
The solution is painfully simple.
Allow fixed fare/fixed route shuttle buses to operate on the island, each one with an armed solder and a walkie talkie on it.
If there is any attempt to interfere by individuals, arrest them.
If there are any attempt at roadblocks, arrest them and confiscate their vehicles and auction them to raise funds for charity.
Tell them beforehand that this is what will happen every time, and do it.
Opposition will peter out very quickly indeed.
Sensible and practical.
Therefore, since this is about Thailand, you don't understand.
It's OK though: just leave your tip in the box marked 'alien' before you make your way home.
"Therefore, since this is about Thailand, you don't understand." - no, this is about Phuket, not Thailand.
Pattaya has baht buses that are used by locals, tourists and expats, and the system works well there.
Yes, but the Taxi-Meter cars have also appeared and I have never heard of a Taxi-Meter driver turning the meter on in Pattaya.

The Austrians didn't have much to do with defeating the Turkish invaders. It was the Polish army under king Jan III Sobieski who came to the rescue. And the Poles are doing it again by, together with Czechs and Hungarians, flatly refusing to be invaded, whilst the Germans and the French do what they have always been good at: wave the white flag.Merkel is trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. With her bleeding heart sentiments, she is single-handedly transforming Germany. She's enabling Muslims to reside in central Europe in large numbers, something the Austrians didn't allow hundreds of years ago when Turkish armies twice attacked Vienna, and both times were turned back.
Germany and its neighbors can now brace themselves for Sharia Law and increased lawlessness manifesting as rapes and terrorist attacks.

Why does the press always use "far right" for the patriots defending European values and fighting for Europe's survival but never "far left" to describe the anarchists and other migrant-huggers?

Yes, you can play. But not men and women in the same room, not even 84-year old. They want for Thailand essentially a Chinese/Iranian expat population, this will be more closely aligned with the foreign affairs and politics that we now see taking shape in this country.
At least you can play cards in Iran (although not gamble) from memory of my time there Hokm Iranian for trump )is one of their favourite card games

Why not? There is absolutely no reason why anybody should overstay. If a tourist wants to stay a week longer he can go to Immigration and get it formalised, can't he?I'm guessing the 500 Baht per day is still in play for people who overstay a few days
That's what I'm thinking, too, despite the option the authorities have. I just can't imagine threatening a tourist with a five year ban for overstaying a week.

You think you have one ignorant and nasty? We have one nutter throwing rabbit sh#t from 13th floor balcony into the swimming pool! And we have rules against keeping pets and definitely very strict rules against sh#t throwing!

"I sold my house when I was 21"!!! Can't understand why you are asking about financial advice. I consider myself reasonably well off now but at 21 I was living in a cheap rented room, running to University lectures every day and only dreaming about owning a house sometime in the distant future.....but I guess you skipped the education part opting for marriage instead. An interesting choice but I guess it's your life.Morning Everyone,
Thanks for the replies they've been very helpful and I will take it all on board. Funnily enough I had a few PM's recommending financial advisers within minutes of posting... I have to give them 10/10 for trying.
The amount was around 300,000 GBP so not a bad sum and no I haven't told my wife about it. I've been tempted to buy a new car with it, but I already have a car, so no big spends.
I will certainly keep it outside of Thailand. I guess I will keep a million baht here in Thailand spread across a few difference banks for a rainy day.
My only concern about it in the UK (or any country) is if there is a banking crisis there (like in Greece) so I invested 60,000 of it in gold bullion which is kept in a safety deposit box. I was thinking about investing a little more in precious metals.
Is it worth opening a few different offshore accounts (HSBC / Citibank in Singapore?) and keeping some money there?
I guess the best investment for it would be property in the UK. I actually sold my house in the UK when I 21 and moved here. I had rented it out for a year and had some bad tenants that literally trashed the place. I didn't want the headaches of renting so sold the house so not sure if I want that again.
Again, thanks for the constructive replies.
Justin.

Obviously a very sad story but.....please take a few moments next time you see Russians cross the road. Or,for that matter, any tourists from countries where people drive on the RH side of the road. Not many of them look right as they are conditioned to expect the traffic from the left. Traffic lights, under- or overpasses are the only practical solutions.

There is a good chance that a German company is the rightful owner of the ship. Better send a ransom request there where they say: today it was stolen- tomorrow it's in Poland.
Oh really? I thought the saying went "Stolen in 1939 and still in Germany".

An Aussie mate of mine was born in Syria when his father used to work there....He would really be out of luck if he found himself deported to the country of birth.

All in Thailand long-term on "education" visa no doubt....

Let's not forget that each of them is entitled to bring his entire family over....so multiply the arrivals by 50 (not counting the goats)...be afraid, be very afraid....

The "happy" ones are obviuosly those who never have to go with fat, tattooed, old, smelly Euro trash quality tourists
