  1. To the best of my knowledge and experience you can renew your licence on any visa (certainly in Chiang Mai anyway).

The problem you may have will likely be with proof of address, if you do not have a yellow book then the most usual proof of address is a paper from immigration or a letter from your embassy/consulate. Clearly the paper from immigration is not going to happen if you are on a Tourist visa, but I'd check and see of you can get a letter from consulate, as a British citizen that's always been an option for me.

I agree. That is the rub in trying to get a Thai driving license with a tourist visa. As both you and the OP said, Thai immigration, or a foreign embassy, aren't going to give you a proof of residence certificate when on a tourist visa. You could also use a work permit as proof of address if you had one in lieu of the yellow book. But the problem is if you are on a tourist visa you wouldn't have a work permit and very unlikely you would have a yellow book either.
I have had many "proof of evidence" certificates from Pattaya immgration. To buy my bike and to get and renew the driver's licence (several times), all on 30-day visa exempt stamps.
  2. Yeah, well, not wearing a helmet usually does lead to "serious head injuries".

Oh, well, one less idiot on the roads.

And that's not "Thai bashing". It applies to ANY idiot, in ANY country. No helmet = Pure Stupidity!

When I ask my Thai friends if they know the "2 seconds" rule....you can imagine the blank looks I get in return

  3. At many overpasses and underpasses in Bangkok motorcycles are prohibited, this is for their safety as I understand, as there are no road shoulders where they can safely ride and motorists driving very fast through these passes.

A motorcycle should never be ridden on the shoulder, that's not what the shoulder is for. The proper road position for a motorbike is where the right wheels of a car normally are.
  4. I live in View Talay 2A could not be happier just moved into a double unit from a single costs 20k a month , good management , great pool and handy shops/massage/laundry/barber on ground floor :)

I have worked in the CIS a bit and View Talay remind me so much of the Soviet-style monstrous apartment blocks housing thousands of not-so- discerning occupants. No wonder so many Russians choose VT as their home away from home. My advice, stay well clear (also if you don't want your vehicle to be parked out in the open and have proper security)

  5. There is some evidence that circumcision has health benefits, including:

A decreased risk of urinary tract infections.

A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men.

Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.

Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).

Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).

Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean.

    What a lot of BS

  6. It's my casual observation from afar but nonetheless as an expat too that it is difficult to believe she's a murderer, especially such a grizzly one. It's really that I don't know if she fits any profile of a murderer and just about every kind of murder or crime has an empirical profile of a pretty typical perp.

There is a murderer(s) in this and the black guy is in prison, so it might well serve justice and the much aggrieved Kercher family if that were reviewed inside and outside the justice system to get a better handle on him in relation to the crime. If the black guy is guilty then I'd like some level of comfort that the black guy isn't ing railroaded. Italy is not the United States and its history of black justice literally and figuratively but that is only somewhat of a mitigating factor.

While the Italian high court is convincing it its judgement, I still don't feel a finality in this so I'd like to know more about the black guy.

The "black guy's" name is Rudy Guede.
