  1. Our boat went out today to Koh Sak (next to Koh Larn) and I have been told that the water was full of them (jellyfish), including lots of small ones.

I personnaly saw lots around Koh Larn on Sunday and had to advise our customers on board to stop swimming for their safety.

I wouldn't swim at any of the mainland beaches for ANYTHING. Fortunately I dont have to.

    :burp: Ken

Yes, last few days more and more jellyfish, small and large, also on Jomtien beaches. The water very cloudy (sewage?) First time in many months i got a swimmers ear (infection) that will keep me from swimming for a while. The broken glass issue has been around for years. Not only here, but also on Samui and even more on Samet/Ao Pai! Have seen some nasty injuries. Even more terrible if it happens to kids on their vacation. Lots of people collecting glass pieces. Once I asked a local guy from a resort on A Pai Beach, why there was so much broken glass. No flaming intended...: "So falang cut foot!" I never asked anybody again...!

  2. All about money! Always! Just take a stroll around Sunee Plaza area. Numbers of VERY underage boys offering their services on the streets and in the clubs. If the officials want to close down and stop this - very easy! Plenty of examples around the world. Put up CCTV allover the place. Put up big signs with explicit warnings, as they can be found in many countries. Have undercover agents present and watching. Check suspicious foreigners with young kids on the spot. Establish professional records about these miserable individuals. Have people there equipped with video cameras.

Things will never change, as long as parents are selling their kids into prostitution and cutting deals with offenders (pay-outs, set-ups), as long as plenty of people profit from this trade...! There is many ways, to get rid of these foreigners, which abuse innocent kids. These kids deserve to be protected! All about money! TIT! Sad, but true and not 1% of cases ever get public. Pedophiles and child abusers are cowards and very fearful of exposure. Why don't the various Volunteers Organizations take this on professionally? Over to you Howard and Niels.

  3. It's best to set up a whole new PayPal rather than try and add a Thai bank to an existing 'foreign' bank.

Sign up and put your country as Thailand, but change the language to English obviously. Do the normal procedure ie. wait a week and receive two deposits in your thai bank, fill in the details on PayPal and verify your phone number.

Their exchange rates are crap but let's say you sold something on eBay and got $, you exchange the $ into THB and get around 31.6 at the moment, but what can you do? Another bad thing is it takes 7 days to reach the Thai bank rather than 3 or 4 to US banks.

There's a better write-up than ^^ this somewhere on the forum, have a search for it. Very straightforward though, but much easier if you have internet banking with your Thai bank to check the balance for those two deposits.

Bino - sending THB to a THB account (say a Thai paid you by PayPal) wouldn't get any exchange rates involved, but you'd still get the 4% charge as you receive the money (which they handily hide from you now) AND...deep breath, if you withdraw less than 5,000bt you get another charge of 50bt applied. Again 7 days to hit you account.

Hope this helps - I know it might answer the merchant bit fully but you never know :)

Great info. Thank you very much for your time! JL.

  4. Written for friend:

I have several accounts with TTT/ADSL. All prepaid 6 mths.. or 1 yr. Once in a while an account must be cancelled due to tenant moving out or such. This was always done easily and quickly at their Carrefour office for phone line and ADSL and invoices seized for that account. Receipts for cancellation were never handed out. June 09 I canceled a certain account as usual, have not received any bills for neither phone or ADSL for 1 full year. But now they sent me a bill for 12 months of use 13'000 Baht! The line was not connected to any condo and I never suspected anything wrong, since we were just receiving our regular bills. Not 1 bill for the cancelled account for 1 year!

Their office now says, must pay and we not cancel until you pay! Great customer service, considering that we are customers with around 10 Premium accounts and always pay in

advance! A guy from the phone company told us, this account might have been rerouted to a non-paying friend within the company and now somebody found out! A similar experience by a friend last week. 22'000 Baht credit-card charge for CAT ADSL, which he had not used in years. When he intervened via Card Company and confronted them at South Pattaya office: "Solly Sil, mistake, this old account". Just trying or what?

Any advise appreciated. Thank you. JL.

  5. Hi there

What is the best Deal / Brand / Sim / Provider for an air-card that works in Nongkai area. No need for 3 G / Just a good? speed connection to read the newspaper and study. Preferably based on hourly use. Thank you very much for any info. JL.

    Meant "Province" - Sorry...

  6. Great & funny post. Talk to a few business owners in Pattaya and find out, that the reality is even more funny or ridiculous sometimes. Anybody ready to start a funny thread about real life Pattaya-Cheap Charlie stories? Just for entertainment. JL. :)

  7. Google diana-oasis. My favorite since they opened. Perfect location, very nice staff and manageress. Great value for money. Would never stay on Walking Street. Oasis gives you the Best of both worlds. Entertainment at the doorstep & Peaceful gardens and pools and they are very girl friendly. JL.

  8. Check diana-oasis (diana-oasis.com) out, they have full amenities, pools etc. from about 500/day for their cheaper monthly rentals. Even a full breakfast included. I am a regular and have not found better value for money in Pattaya. Talk to Miss Meow and say Hello from Lexi! JL. :)

  9. Curtains.....30% below most and very friendly...Kh. Nattaya 081 457 78 77, must speak Thai...Good luck...

Lenny: Great info...again! I spent all day on Thepprasit Road. Just too many choices!!!!

John: Euro Design is interesting. Modern for sure. We are not sure if we want that modern look or go with custom wood cabinets for a more traditional look. Still debating that one.

Prices were all over the place. Sure pays to shop around. I was quoted 43,000 baht/sq meter down to 27,000 baht/sm for custom teak cabinets. Not sure what the difference would be, but I will research that for sure.

I did not stop into the shops, but there are a bunch of curtain places on that road also. We will deal with later for sure.

    Thanks so much!!!!!

  10. Hi there

Anybody knows about pain clinic/hospital that is specialized in treatment of advanced cancer pain. Looking for an automated system (Medtronic)for morphine delivery, controlled by patient. Any feedback/experience is much appreciated. Any doctor/hospital recommendation welcome. Patient lives in Pattaya, but can travel. Thank. JL.

  11. I have a travel guide that goes on at some length about the inadvisability of swimming at Pattaya Beach because of sewage pollution. Haven't been able to find anything else confirming or denying that.

Does anyone have information? Is the water really so ppor one should not go in? Thanks!

I am swimming at the North end of Jomtien daily when I am in town. Yes, there is lots of garbage, yes there is the real danger of jellyfish during certain months. Certainly not a tropical beach paradise, but acceptable for swimming about 50% of the time, if you are willing to fight your way through the garbage. Definitely a disappointment for many holiday makers. Nothing has changed for the better and never will, I am afraid.

  12. Must let you know....Absolutely perfect, fast and professional service by CHAWLA Travel in Bangkok. Will never bother to waste my time with a local travel agent again! 2 Phone calls and 2 emails for complicated booking. Great price and another happy customer! JL. :)
