I have all my original documents (including my birth certificate. mother's death certificate) in a folder. I take that with me every time I visit a government office as you never know what they will ask for. I have also been asked at some government offices, if I was "interested in giving a tip" so I usually have 2K cash. I hate to pay more. On an additional note: I did NOT have the 10K cash on me when applying for the yellow house book.

This may well be the requirement, but in September when I went to extend my visa they asked for an updated TM 30. I had been to Phuket for 3 days. It wasn't a problem as my wife (house owner) was with me and updated there and then. Went out to print a copy for them. Everything depends on the mood of the officer processing the extension. I have seen them disagree many times.

Not really a new requirement, but when I renewed my extension 3 months, the first thing they asked for was the TM30. I had all my documents and copies with me in a folder. Sometimes they do ask for something different.

I have been teaching at a university for over 20 years and I have probably heard of at least 10 cases where Thai male teachers at upcountry secondary schools have asked girls to "help clean their offices" and have raped and abused them. When the girls get too old they choose a new victim. I have had two students confess that it happened to them, but they never complained "as most people knew about it anyway."

Pink Id card for foreigners
petedk replied to Enquiry123's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Have you retired? When you retire you can continue paying SS yourself, otherwise you lose the medical insurance. In order to continue paying, you need a pink ID card, It was confirmed once again today at my SS office. -

Yes, when registering with SSO a tax ID is sufficient, but when switching from section 33 to 39 they require proof of permanent residence. Yellow house book or pink ID card. -

Yes, it seems that the pink ID card is OK. I have sometimes used my driving license even though I always carry my passport when travelling. There is one little point that is slightly ambiguous and could be misinterpreted. It says "passengers who have lost or unable to present the documents." If you carry your passport, then you are able to present it. Anyway, lets hope people don't have problems. -

I have just this minute returned from my third trip to the didtrict office. First time to enquire and check that I had the right documents. I needed a new certified translation of passport. Second time I had all the documents but the girl didn't know how to process the application. Today, I took 2 witnesses and they told me that I needed my driving license (I had it with me), which is strange because you can use yellow book to renew license and license to get yellow book. Ok never mind. He then took the documents and said :"come back in a month." I told him I needed the yellow book urgently, but his response was that Valentines Day is coming up, so they are busy. They were too busy whe we had the floods, then 4 or 5 months after the coup was told to wait as uncertain times. Then 6 months before a big funeral they were too busy Then local elections - too busy Then general election - too busy I managed to book a time in the week before Valentines day, but was told "be prepared for cancellation." Can I answer that question when I have the yellow house book and pink ID card. It's in Bangkok and notorious for being difficult to deal with. We gave up trying to get married here and went to another district. We tried for 18 months to get planning permission to build our house, but they always found little details that needed to be changed. In the end our architect suggeted that we paid the "district architect" 100K to complete the design. A few days later we received planning permission. -

Incidentally, I read today that from January 2024 all foreigners on domestic flights MUST now show passports and not other forms of ID. Worth checking up! -

I think we are talking about two different things. My employer and I have been paying to the Thai Social Security for 20 years. Now I have retired I want to continue paying myself to obtain the free medical treatment. I have 2 months in which to do it or I lose my right to Thai social security. -

My wife accompanied me. We are legfally married and she is the legal owner of the house. We were simply turned away before we even started the process. They were "too busy at the moment." I went about a month ago to confirm the documents needed and I didn't have an original translation of the certied passport. I used the original at the same office to get married. They would not accept a copy. Another 6 week wait for an appointment at the embassy. -

" Passport already certifies your date and place of birth. ' I agree entirely, but it often seems that Thai government officers like to have proof of proof. You can't marry without an affidavit with freedom to marry, yet when you apply for a visa they need your original marriage certificate and the affadavit. When I renewed my driving license I had to shoow my passport to get in and start the process and again at every stage. -

To be honest I think they should do this with all foreigners who actually live ere more than 3 months. They could then integrate the pink card ID number into their stupid IT payment systems, so that foreigners are not always barred from using some applications and payment gateways. -

See my comment. I need a pink ID card to continue my social security. Thailand is changing and the pink ID card is used as proof of residency more and more -

I thought the same as you until I tried to continue my social security payments after my reirement. "Sorry, you need the pink ID card and yellow book." I have applied 3 times over the past 5 or 6 years, but have beenn "rejected" each imes as "they were too busy." I am in the process of applying now. I need marriage certificate, certified translation of my passport, blue house book ( the house is in my wife's name). Anything else? I will find out tomorrow when I go to the district office for the third time in 2 months. -
Thai herbs: Nature’s secret weapon against deadly PM2.5 dust
petedk replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What he probably means is that the herbs soothe the symtoms caused by PM 2.5. It is impossible for them to block the dust from enetering the lungs. The best solution for any illness is prevention., not treatment. They need to tackle PM 2.5 from the source
