  1. Gasps and clutches pearls! When will I be able to buys these in Rimping stores?
  2. In pre pandemic times I had at least 4 US friends and 2 Brits spend 4 months here every year. In fact the Brits have a large house here, but not one of the has returned nor I tends to return. The reason is Pollution. They see no reason to spend many hours flying here only to have to breathe in the kind of muck that farmers and others pump into the air for month after month. So they are visiting countries nearer home, taking cruises and have no intention of holidaying here ever again.
  3. As ever the beribboned louts who have bribed their way to the top of the army show their immunity to any form of negative event. The whole top rank in this squad should be sacked not just the creep who assaulted the lady. Until the armed forces are rid of the incompetents who rule like gods institutions like the RTA, RTN and RTP will continue to behave like they are untouchable. The government needs to step in immediately but as we know there are too many old military types in power.
  4. Ever wonder why this type of monorail system is used by very few operators worldwide? There was already plenty of public complaint about the bumpy ride and the low capacity of the trains. And now kilometres of the live rail literally fall off and lie in the street! This whole operation should be closed until international experts have been brought in to conduct a real investigation, not the instant blame passin of some local loudmouth who says soil is the cause. Public lives are at risk here.
  5. O S Thai Visa, soi 6 Nimmanhaemin. Used them for years and always pleasantly efficient.
  6. The most potent soft power is when you tread on dog sh*t and it sticks to your shoe and the smell lingers.
  7. This will not create new significant business for bars and clubs because almost no one has unlimited spending money. Add to this the stipulations for bars etc to monitor customer sobriety, call friends or family to pick up drivers too drunk to drive, provide sobering up areas etc are simply ludicrous. Only RTP will gain by being given more opportunities to extract bribes from bars and their customers on top of the weekly payments they already demand. My partner will not stay open beyond 2 am because the staff deserve decent working hours and time to sleep after dealing with 8 hours of work and they are not going to be asked to act as surrogate police.
  8. Making bars into surrogate police merely hands a new tea money raising exercise to the real BiB who already extort huge amounts from the nighttime economy. And whoever thinks that bar staff will be able to discipline a drunken customer is dreaming. Who will pay the extra medical bills for staff injured by outraged customers? This whole thing is utterly ridiculous and my partner's bar will definitely not stay open till 4am to sell to the drunken dregs of society.
  9. Oops, someone has suddenly realised it is difficult to skimp off the usual "tea money" amount from e tickets, and the bosses will not be happy.
  10. No one pays real attention to the hyperventilating TAT spokespersons. Maybe it hits 25 million this year or maybe not. The real issue is that the Chinese do not want to visit, a 54000 person survey by Weibo shows that 85% of Chinese travellers do not want to visit SEA. Only 1% of Indians travel overseas but mostly for VFR, so that's not a promising market and most of the western countries have radically changed travel patterns with long haul like Thailand being low down on the list of destinations. Thailand is no longer the gilded child of tourism and is sinking into being a secondary destination.
  11. Surely Prayuth solved the problem years ago when he came here by private jet, flew by helicopter to an army base and handed out 100 firebeaters and some leaf blowers.!
  12. An increase in online searches does not translate to business. Since grovelling to China bookings have slumped and 10 Chinese airlines have halved flight plans because of poor bookings. This article is little more than an attempt to talk up a business that is experiencing zero positive result from visa free policies.
  13. Rotfl. Can anyone see the mafia that controls this industry being even one percent interested in pollution. The only thing they care about is ensuring that the city never has an effective public transport system that would wipe these leeches off the face of the earth.
  14. Merely words. It would be more effective if everyone was given a traditional paper fan and were told to stand outside at the same time and waft it around. No doubt that petrol powered giant fan at Thapae will make it's annual appearance too.
  15. Methinks someone thinks SGN is Singapore 555, when it is in fact for HCMC , assigned in the days when it was known as Saigon.
  16. Ha ha, how many people want the government to really know what their income is? And as for a spending boost to the economy, forget it. Most will take the opportunity to reduce their debts to money lenders so there will only be a boost to their bank accounts and not to spending on goods.
  17. This airline is currently in a hurried attempt to raise capital, so buyer beware. Check if any other airlines will accept Norse tickets if you do not want to find yourself stranded.
  18. It seems to me that this on not a Chiang Mai specific posting! So why is it in the CM forum?
  19. So "pay to play" is over! How about all the legal businesses that pay the RTP to simply trade lawfully during existing trading hours. In our city there is not one bar or other nighttime outlet that is not being extorted. Is Anutin going to put a stop to this corruption? I think not because his BiB will riot if he does. So once again his big mouth big claims are little more than an attempt to look like he is actually doing something useful.
  20. There are two types of vaccine, the southern hemisphere type was available here from early this year and covered you for our rainy season when this strain is prevalent. Currently the northern hemisphere vaccine version is available and provides cover for the Thai winter flu season. Flu vaccines provide about 6 months of protection and Thailand experiences both types thanks to having a location near the equator and to large scale international travel. During Covid the incidence of flu declined noticeably due to greatly reduced socialising and other protection methods but it is now increasing as is Covid in some countries like the UK. CM Mediclinic has the northern strain vaccine available now and I was vaccinated there 3 days ago.
  21. This government is no more democratic than the junta that came before. Things might appear calm right now but the intransigence of the military & the power elite, yes I am looking at you Thaksin, is creating a build up of resentment that will result in violence eventually. Maybe not this year or next but those who have been disenfranchised number many millions and will carry their anger forward. It is going to take bloodshed to effect true change here and it is not yet time. But it will come.
  22. "the national costume of Africa" does not exist. Africa is a continent made up of dozens of countries/nation's with hundreds of languages and cultures. There is no costume that represents Africa and certainly not the crappy fabrics being worn. And as for the blackface, it is a total insult. Many people in Africa have much lighter skins and many people from the subcontinent of India have much darker skins. To portray Africans in this way is a sickening display of ignoranceand racism. Chiang Mai Zoo, like all zoos should be closed.
  23. Our outside water filtration and softener systems were installed by Water Shop who continue to service them when requested. They have one senior person who speaks English but the rest only speak Thai. We have found them to be very competent and speedy in their work. Their shop is located in the rear car park, next to the other small shops at Big C Extra/Homepro on the Superhighway frontage road. Getting them to come to our house in Sanpiisua is no problem so Doi Saket should be similar.
  24. Have you tried Dr Chanakarn? I have had very good treatments spanning a decade at very reasonable prices. He works at various hospitals around CM but also has a clinic on Charoenprathet from 17:30 to 19:00 hrs nightly, walk in no appointment necessary. If surgery is needed you can choose your hospital. He is extremely busy and as he is team doctor to the national sports team he is away from CM from time to time. But he is my first choice for orthopedic matters.
  25. Airlines are a business and need to recoup the massive losses incurred during the pandemic as well as deal with higher fuel prices and the diversions caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent loss of safe airspace. When services restarted there were still restrictions on use of masks and food service but even the Chinese airlines have now gone back to normal. Cabin crew numbers are determined by the number of emergency exits and individual airline standards and full service airlines like SQ have to follow these. In recent months SQ has experimented with their economy food service but other classes are unchanged from pre pandemic levels although of course menus change. The era of low fares has gone for at least the next few years because in some markets demand exceeds supply, but in Asia numbers have recovered more slowly especially out of China. As staff were let go during the pandemic shutdown airlines are battling to recruit every type of employee as well as bring stored planes back into service. It will be a few years before capacity is fully restored so until then fares will remain higher. It's the new normal!
