I second Dr Chanakarn. He recently dealt with my long lasting Achilles tendon issue by prescribing anti inflammatory and muscle relaxant tablets plus stretching and walking modification exercises. After 4 months it is almost totally resolved at a cost of a few thousand baht, compared to a surgery proposal by a top line hospital at a cost of 130000 thb. Oh, he is also team doctor to the national sports team so he knows what he id doing. His clinic is very busy and does not take appointments but I highly recommend a visit. Google Maps is your friend.

As a type 2 sufferer I fail to understand why it is not possible to purchase a Continuous Glucose Monitor in Thailand, unlike many Western countries. These easy to use devices give out realtime information on glucose levels without the finger prick. This greatly enhanced our ability to understand the impact that foods have and modify our eating to minimise sugar spikes. Why does this country prevent us living a more carefully managed life? I suspect there is pressure from the likes of hospitals that want to control their use and make big bucks.

"Hello - Doi Suthep - where are you?" cough cough cough
brommers replied to connda's topic in Chiang Mai
Khun La you are wrong, in my part of CM the AQI was over 300 on Thursday for many hours and hardly ever goes below 200 for many weeks. There is nothing to be gained by minimising the issue. -
Chiang Mai Prepares to Welcome Songkran Festival
brommers replied to snoop1130's topic in Chiang Mai News
Since the pollution became critical there has already been a reported drop off in forward hotel bookings. My partner runs a tourism dependent business that has done record turnover for over a year until a month ago when business dropped off a cliff with revenue being up to 40% down on numerous days. Meanwhile the governor holds a presentation telling everyone that pollution better than a year ago, but fails to mention that CM has had a record numbers of days when it is world number one. The extended crapshoot of Songkran events is heading for a financial disaster for many businesses. -
Chiang Mai bans alcohol, smoking in Songkran celebration areas

And where pray are the designated areas where this ban will be in place? Or have they not yet decided where to apply it! -
Thailand is Asia’s leading ice cream exporter
brommers replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Wowser, a true example of Thai soft power! Or is it an example of Thailand Ice Cream Hub!? Whatever it is the nation can beat it's chest with pride. 555 -
IGNITE Thailand! Chiang Mai is deeply affected by pollution caused by fires ignited by village idiots and farmers employed by giant conglomerates. He won't declare CM an emergency zone because he wants to protect tourism! Does he not realise that tourists are already falling ill, are already cancelling visits, are already telling their friends what a hell hole this place is. Ignite Thailand is where the future destruction of tourism and the health of it's people lies. Srettha is beyond being a fool he is complicated in condemning people to illness.

Thai-Hungarian officials discuss mutual cooperation

Snuggling up with the government that is a Putin supporter. Disgusting, shameful but what is to be expected from Srettha who would kiss the devil just to get his photo taken. -
Thaksin’s political resurrection starts with crucial Chiang Mai test
brommers replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Is it coincidental that pollution has hit the year's highest since he arrived and was followed around by a rent a crowd movb of grannies! -
There has been an unpleasant stench around Chiang Mai that I thought must be a local pig farm, but no it is the reeking fossil himself. Doesn't he realise the voters have moved on and no longer will vote for a criminal billionaire who has never done anything meaningful for his oh do beloved home. Can't wait to wave him good-bye as he departs in his personal private jet paid for from taxes he never paid.

Flame game foiled: Chiang Mai crackdown scorches forest arsonist
brommers replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Soon there will be no photos of hero cops, the RTP will make no money out of this game and will return to extorting the businesses that pay them millions per month. -
Thai prime minister graces TIME cover, signaling business revival

Would be more appropriate for him to be on the cover of Frequent Flyer magazine -
Chiang Mai Air Quality and Pollution
brommers replied to Cheesekraft's topic in Air Pollution in Thailand
Anyone know what has happened to the law suit taken out by a CM pressure group? They recently slapped an injunction on the government demanding an action plan in 90 days. That time must be coming soon! Oh, by the way the aqi close to my house is 340 at 13:30 hrs and you can chew the air. -
Thailand, South Africa Strengthen Ties on All Fronts
brommers replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
So we can expect Thailand to emulate South Africa where they have daily 6+ hour power cuts, sorry they call it load shedding, polluted drinking water, hospitals without drugs, mass emigration of skilled people, a murder rate 46 times higher than the UK, and state capture of swathes or the economy. -
I have drunk alcohol all my life and nothing is going to change my behaviour. Young people have brains and some education and are quite capable of making informed decisions, so these so-called scare labels bring nothing to the debate on the use of alcohol. Drawing parallels with cigarettes is erroneous because tobacco smoke was a problem for many who objected to passive smoking, my drinking affects no-one but me. The problem of alcohol related driving accidents is more a pedestrian issue than a driver one and scare labels will not address the inherent irresponsibility of the population. So get your nanny state out of my hair and spend time on educating children on social responsibility.

Thailand seeks German investment in electric vehicle industry
brommers replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Great, so we are trying to get into bed with three manufacurers that are hardly successful with EVs. Merc just announced it no longer plans to be totally electric by 2030 because sales of EVs is below forecast, VW has similar sales problems plus it's products are below par in all important electronics systems and BMW produce wildly expensive vehicles that are not reliable and appeal to only the top 2% of the market. -
Thailand Adjusts Excise Taxes on Local Liquor to Boost Tourism
brommers replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There will be minimal reductions in booze prices because the increase in minimum wages will add to operating costs. So says my local bar owner. -
Update on COVID-19 in Thailand: 7 February 2024
brommers replied to webfact's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
It is about time that COVID vaccine was as readily available as flu vaccine. There can be no reason to restrict it's availability. There is no was I am going to the inconvenient hospitals where it is available in Chiang Mai but I would happily combine it and pay for it along with my flu vaccination at the private clinic that I use. -
Rayong solar company lays off 800 amid financial woes
brommers replied to snoop1130's topic in Eastern Thailand News
In the US there are many cases of solar panel installers going bankrupt recently, including some of the very largest. So the fact that a small manufacturer is in trouble is a knock on effect that will hit many more. -
Fine as sustainability may be the fact remains that the roads will still be littered with idiot songtaew drivers and the vehicle owner mafia will still prevent CM developing a decent public transport system. CMU should apply its vast intellect to getting rid of the old corruption and bringing in a truly effective multi modal transport network. Only then will this city be rid of the polluters and road hogs that clog our roads.

Mysterious mass death at Chiang Mai Night Safari shocks Thailand
brommers replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Animals should not be kept in any form of captivity be it a zoo, a circus, a night safari or anything else. I visited the Night Safari years ago and left feeling depressed because of the condition of the animals. Not long after, some dolt involved in running the place even suggested that the restaurants should be serving "exotic" meats such as zebra! This place is a legacy of the initial Thaksin era and needs to be wipe off the face of the earth. Chiang Mai would be the better for its closure. -
100% recovery predicted for Thailand’s hospitality sector
brommers replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Someone is smoking ganja! The figures, such as they are, show that global tourism trends have changed over the last 2 years and Thailand is no longer the Teflon Thailand of old. Themix of international travellers has been radically changed by eve ts like the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the sagging Chinese economy, and many other issues. Making ludicrous statents such as in this report merely highlights the naiveté of the author.
