  1. I use the train everyday, and the way Thai's just push pass you to make sure they get on before you, this kind of thing was always going to happen at some point!

Thai's are just soo ignorant at times! No manners, whatsoever!

    Hope she recovers soon!!

I also ride the BTS every day, and can recognize the above situation. If anyone tries to push their way in front of others, they should expect that a stronger person might push back. I learned the hard way in China, that particularily in China, it is necessary to use your elbows to protect your number in the row. Otherwise you will never get on the bus.

Anyway the yellow line is very close to the tracks and if someone should feel dizzy or pass out, they could easily fall to the tracks.

It will probably be impossible for an old buffalo to learn new manners, so I think that the only solution to this problem would be, if they could make a safety system similar to the MRT (subway), where doors protect you from falling to the tracks.

I have no usable solution to the rude thais (mostly younger women), who are always trying to board the vehicle, before the exitting passengers have actually finished exitting. I very often have to tackle me way out of the BTS, MRT or an elevator. Just a few days ago a young thai teenager learned, that a big farang is not easily pushed away.

  3. We stayed in "Prince Khum Phaya resort & spa" last month: http://www.princekhumphayaresortandspa.com/

This small japanese owned resort has just opened in 2009 and is very beautiful and romantic in lanna style and located just in the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Just be sure to ask for a quiet room away from the bars along the quite busy road. The resort have a free shuttle bus to/from various parts of Chiang Mai. All rooms are large with teak interior and a very large bathroom with luxury Jacuzzi and seperate jet/rain shower. The Villa Suite have outdoor Jacuzzi and the Villas have a private pool.

    Enjoy your honeymoon.

  4. It definitely smells like dead rat to me. The same old story that most of us have experienced at least once.

If she works for a big international company, she could have this kind of salary as an accountant, having in mind that she has a university degree in marketing which definitely counts in Thailand. The 12.000 Bath rent is enough to rent an apartment big enough to house a thai-husband, as well as other family members, plus maintaining the old family house in Isan. If she is not able to live a normal thai life for the remaining 13.000 Bath, she should just find a cheaper place to live. You can find a good studio apartment for around 3.000 Bath. By the way - if she is from Isan and you have met her in a bar, I would never trust her. Many of the Isan girls are well trained, in how to keep many foreign sponsors at the same time. The money just keeps rolling in to the accounts every month, and many claim to have a respectable job.

Unless she is very unique, I would immediately stop calling her and forget about her. It will be easy to meet a new tirak when you come here next time, but if you are serious, please try find her outside the bar scene or massage parlours. No guarantee is given, but you could try to set up a profile in an asian dating site, in order to have a real date waiting for you next time you come, but also in the dating sites many are not sincere and will soon start to speak about their bad economy.

Before you come here next time, please download and read the novel "Private Dancer" by Steven Leather and you will know what you should be aware of, when dating thai girls.

  5. I have emigrated to Thailand and married a Thai woman, for the reason that far the most western women have adapted too many male habits, and also often acts and even sometimes looks like a man. Furthermore in most western countries there are many more single men than there are single women, so the women can be very selective and pick the youngest, richest and most good looking men, while the rest of us are left to feel a little unattractive.

Totally opposite there are many more women than men in Thailand. Totally opposite the thai women find western men very attractive and make us feel appreciated. They very much remind us of, how the western women used to be, before the womens liberation started.

It takes two to tango, but only the man can be the leader. For the same reason could a western woman would never learn accept the thai men, who are so much more demanding and much less caring than the average western man.

  6. Not defending the actions of the driver by any means but didn't the guy agree to 150 then offer 100. Probably not a good idea in any foreign country over 50 baht.

Mr. Anwar had agreed to pay 150 Bath and should feel responsible to pay, even though he find that it is well too much for a one minute ride, but what other choice would he have, if he did not want to walk.

You dont get a tuk-tuk ride in Phuket cheaper than that, and I assume that all TV members have tried to be overprized by the tuk-tuk mafia, when visiting Phuket. Certainly I have too, but I just paid the agreed fare without using violence. 10 minutes later I rented a motorbike to get around the island, as I will never again support this kind of organized rip-off, and I never go back to a business where I onze have felt overprized.

  7. Even in some better Thai restaurants the taste of theTom Yum Goong is really bad. For a 25 Bth Tom Yum Goong bought from a street vendor, I would just pay, leave it untouched and never come back.

But maybe a Dutch tourist know better, how an original Tom Yum Goong should taste (mai phet like in the many western restaurants in Jomtien)?

  8. Good luck mate.

If I was you, I would not rush to get married, if you have actually only been together a few weeks. It is a complete different story to just be talking over the phone, as well as a few weeks holiday in Thailand, is very different, compared to a normal working life in Ireland. Especially if you happened to meet in a bar, you should be very carefull about what you do, as far from all bargirls are as honest as they look. I happen to know this by experience.

Do you know why her visa application was rejected? If she has a criminal record, she will not get a visa, even if you are married. If she do not have a criminal record, try to apply again, as there might just have been a small discrepancy in the application. If everything in the application is as required, a 90 days tourist visa will definitely be granted. Give her a fair chance to see, how her new life in Europe will be. If she should be disappointed about life in Ireland, it would be better for both of you, if she would realize this before you are getting married.

About the marriage, you should of course pay for the private ceremony and the wedding party in the village, which will not be too expensive (plenty of monks and a live band are not a must). The dowry (sin sot) is originally a compensation to the parents, for taking their daughter away from the family. As someone already did that before, you would not need to pay anything, but I recommend that you show your good will, and give the parents what you can afford (e.g. Bht 10-20,000.00). They will be very happy to show the other villagers the money, and knowing that they have a little money, you would not have to send more money, every time the house needs repair, or when the buffalo gets sick. In Thailand you dont only marry the girl, but her whole family
