Word of caution about getting a STV. If the scheme does finish on 30th Sept as proposed you may end up with a lot less than 9 months. Last year they extended before the deadline. This year who knows.

Thats just getting the visa.  Lots of time between now and then.
Once you have it and entered before said date, should be no problems extending 2 more times as per how it works.

What do you think is the best visa run option at the moment?

Best visa run option, and I'm being serious, is to go back to "Home Country" and get a STV before it ends (or METV).
Then come back, and you got 6-9 months atleast of worry free stay.

Thats what I am doing.  Also many "Home Country" places getting into warmer weather, so not the worst time for a little Visa reset.

I know everyone has their circumstances and reasons for trying the shorter runs, and financial situation plays a role.

Plus if you can stay out for 1-2 months, no doubt the rules will hopefully change again -- for the better.

    Best of luck.

  3. Many good valid posts.

One thing I would keep in mind, is that even when Thailand drops the PCR test pre/post arrival, it wont take "effect" until 3 months, maybe 4 after its actually "live".

Example, 1st of Month X no more tests, etc.. it becomes like Mexico is now.
People will not just jump on a plane and fly over on the 7th, or even that Month X.  Its going to take 1-2 months for the word to spread, who actually the TAT and Thailand are targetting.  Despite there being an internet and news disseminating fast, it still takes atleast 3-6 weeks in my view for word to pass around (people have lives).

Then after that, (2-3 months later) people go apply for STV, METV, or whichever Visa's.  2-3 Months, because many people need to arrange/book it with work, school, kids, etc.

2-3 Months then turns into 4th for actual travel, as Flights, Hotels, etc.. would be 1 month atleast in advance for said bookings.

So when (not if) this whole Endemic and requirements reduce, look at it actually having an effect 3-5 months later and beyond.

Thats my theory on it, I may not be bang on accurate, but something along those lines.

  4. You can try -- https://www.pacificcrosshealth.com/en/stv-180-and-stv-90-plans/

I found success with said Company ????

Do note the Exclusions (*Remarks at bottom of page), like 15 day waiting period for Covid cover to kick in, but nobody checks that.

Also check that TGIA link posted by UbonJoe, where you can get first 2 weeks covered by another Company to cover Covid, both Symptomatic and Asymptomatic (Where other Companies may not).

And up to 50% Discount on rates, if you do 300k Deductable.  Up to you how much Discount & Deductable you want.

    Take care.

  5. I would say, check out Fig. 7 on Canada's site, and decide how you want to play.

    https://health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/epidemiological-summary-covid-19-cases.html

Change dropdown to Deceased and look at Under 20 numbers and beyond.

With a 27 in ~32k chance for Under 20's, and compare that with rate of "Vaccine Injury" or unknown long term effects, hopefully we all can make the same reasonable conclusion.

    Up to you ????

  6. I spoke about this what feels like a long time ago, when I was doing my STV.

I knew what could happen as I read the "exclusions" section of the Policy before sending in my $$$.

    Linked:

By default, the insurance has a 14/15 day "waiting period" to cover Covid, and other things.  So basically if you get tested positive, its on you.

Only way around that is to buy a 2nd policy, that covers the first 2 weeks.  Which is doable using links provided on Embassy/Consulate Sites.

They are linked up on ...something TGIA site, and others have posted on this forum to ones that have a daily rate, and select # of days.

Plus extra to cover "asymptomatic" etc..

Its sad there is no 1 size fits all where it will cover you from Day 0 (Foot onto airplane) without having to read all the fine print.

Generally speaking, few read the fine print.

Good luck to all, better luck next time to those who got Insurance that they signed for, but never bothered to read/ask.

Thx, I already checked my (current) Wifi signal and it doesn't even reach less then half the distance required.

We have power (to place a WIFI repeater) on the other side of the property but that is still another 100m away from the intended location of the "cottage" (but straight line of sight)

    Oke another question then

Anyone know if 3BB (our current ISP) would be able to split the Fiber optic cable coming to our house and divert it to the "cottage"???? (Thinking about it, I think it would mean 2 subscriptions???

Technically, the fiber can be split as it has lots of capacity.  Whether they do it, would have to ask.
I would just run your own link between the 2 as per my other post.
Its doable if your somewhat technical, or know someone like that.

    • Thanks 1
  8. I'm not sure how technical you are.  You got 2 options as I see it, that I would do.

    1) Run fiber in a conduit between the locations.

    2) Use some Ubiquity Equipment, to setup a Wireless link between the 2.

Do you have LoS (Line of Sight) between them ?  Or could you acheive it with a pole ?

https://www.ui.com/ -- Is the website for Ubiquity, they have great stuff that can get the job done.

    Good luck.
