  1. I recommend you go with LiFEPo4 (Lithium Ion based) batteries, they keep getting cheaper, and have none of the side effects of Gel, Lead Acid, etc..

I can give you my contact in China for that if needed.

What I would do is start with something.  So 3x sets (arrays) of panels, so 1 for each house/dwelling.

Then run that to the equipment area (that will house inverters, batteries, etc..) for each dwelling.  Run that into a AC Panel, and power certain (critical?) pre-calculated loads.

And you would wire AC into the Inverter as well, so the load being pulled from panel would then take from the Inverter in a smart way.  Easy to do these days.

Where it (load) takes in order you want (set on inverter), usually being -- 1) live solar energy 2) Batteries until drops to X voltage/% 3) AC from Grid.

Then as time goes on, you can expand (or reduce) each dwellings setup as needs go.  So someone moves out, goes on vacation for a while.

Just an idea, wish you and your friend all the best.

Let me try to analyze the costs. If you buy a single light, you will need to spend roughly $1300 up to $1800 for a set that does not yet consist of the assembly and maintenance costs.
Solar-powered lights obtain energy from the sunlight; therefore, they are economical and eco-friendly since they get a free energy source.
It can be true that the upfront costs for sun-powered lights can be more expensive compared to conventional lights. However, the former offers more benefits in the long run.

Not sure how solar lights or lights powered by solar exactly related into this topic, but I just want to say, that there are a million things that are impossible to calculate into renewable energy ROI beyond the $$.

So, for example, lets say some area (Village, Municipality, City etc..) chooses to go solar for street lights.  If they would not have, and there is a power outage.  And someone (drunk or not) runs into another car/motorbike, because their light burned out, and was unable to see them.  And then someone dies, or tragically changes their life.
When with say a solar (street light) setup, it would have been prevented, because with right setup (light + panel + battery storage to last cloudy days) there would have been light to avert the accident.

So how can someone calculate the damage of funerals avoided, human productivity lost, robberies averted because lights deter thieves, etc..
Maybe a I rambled a bit, but I think everyone gets the point.  You cannot calculate cost/benefit of solar (and what it powers) on a straight up ROI scenerio.  Too many what ifs exist.

How about your Fridge/Freezer keeping stuff during an extended outage.  That prevents an extra grocery run, of which you could have been in a life changing accident, having to do an extra/unexpected grocery run.

So hope everyone tries to think of the scenarios beyond the money cost.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital has nearly finished re-constructing its huge parking lot. They are putting in the last of the big tubular steel frames that will support shade panels for the cars and ambulances, and I've been curious what material they would choose. The usual corrugated galvanized steel? Some kind of plastic?

Nope. They are going to cover the whole lot with solar.  There were dozens of pallets of 390 watt panels stacked up, ready to be mounted. I estimated there's over 1,200 of them.

That's nearly half a million watts.

As much as I dislike going to the dentist (or the urologist), I look forward to seeing all that massive hardware get wired up. Maybe I'll have a chance to take some pics.

    About time!
Hospitals have big use of power (24/7) for sure!  So I think its going to go extremely well.

How many floors does/will that Hospital have ?  Then can revise this next part.

I'm sure they did their calculations, but here's a quick one. (Just checked website, saw new 15 story building in 2006)

    1200 (panels) x 400 (watts) = 480k watts

    480k watts / 15 floors = 32k watts/floor

32k watts for each floor divided by 12 (? how many on a floor?) rooms = 2600 watts/room.

Of course thats just per hour power, and does not reflect other things that can be used (elevators, hall lighting, recharging electric devices, etc..)

It seems like overkill, but at the end of the day I think it will all get used, and practically none left for batteries.  But thats their option now.

Thanks for the spot & report, I am really positive for solar almost everywhere, but Thailand has huge potential.  Especially with coming EV movement.

  4. This is such a disaster in many ways.

Typically in this kind of situation, the motorbikes hop in front of the cars while waiting at light.  So waiting in front, you are visible and have all those advantages.

Yes, comment about missing slip road is correct, so I am not exactly faulting motocy, as would not expect a turn.

I cant remember leaving myself in this position, but if I am -- I clearly must beat the vehicle off the line and go in front.

That said, the turn signal did come on, so hanging back to see if that was an accident (leaving signal on) would have also saved the rider.

    Sad all around.

Without any photo evidence, I am unable to agree with you.  We are going to need to see to make a real informed opinion.
    I'm sure everyone will agree.

Really struggling to understand any sense or reason in this.

It shows the total lack of critical thinking and challenge in this country.

Why buy an Elite card and then invest USD 1 million ?
Surely just easier to set up an off the shelf company and get a WP that way ?

If you have an Elite card, why would you want a WP anyway ?

What real benefits are there for this ? Regular travel into Thailand is easy anyway, especially if you have an Elite card already.

For once, the projected spending figures look vaguely reasonable 2,000/200m = 100,000 per month. Whether 2,000 will go for this though...

The cherry on the cake, they expect a billion USD of investment from this idea ????

    Same thinking...

  7. They need to check/see the items BEFORE you go through with your passport.  The VAT check I believe is to the far side after last letter at BKK.

I made the mistake of going through without getting items checked, and there is nobody on other side to do that.

VAT office after passport check/exit stamp will not do this.

What are the cost of using an Agent in Pattaya to do a 1 year Retirement Visa and which ones especially as I wont have the required funds in the Bank as Divorce in UK has totally drained and thai GF scammed and when I tried suing her through a English speaking friend (Farang) of a Pattaya Lawyer. He did not do the work nor refund me? I would love to mention his name but Thai laws may forbid this even though he is not Thai! Thanks

Make your own seperate post/topic for this ?

I was just wondering. If no international flights are allowed to fly to Thailand except for repatriation, emergencies, etc, What are the airlines doing? Flying empty planes to take people out? I realize that they can still bring in cargo so maybe that is how they are utilizing the planes.

Exactly, I have same thoughts.  I believe this presents a dilemma, so really things need to open for all allowed in.  This will greatly help people get in/out, and at a reasonable price. (I hope!)

Becoming interested in AIS now. Do you know if they support bridge mode setup?

You can use your own router with AIS and (OPNSense) connect to their Fiber Device/PON in bridge mode.

But It requires additional technical skill that is not straight forward, and sometimes frustrating.

You can refer to this guide I used:
    https://medium.com/nexthopthai/ใช้เน็ต-ais-fibre-กับ-mikrotik-ipv6-e0e6a5de9fef

    1) You call in and say you are going bridge mode.

They confirm you are serious and know what your doing ????

    2) VLAN is 10 as you see on that guide.  If you dont know VLAN's, this will be above your paygrade.

I was able to get PlayBox (Android TV Box) working without a VLAN, by just manually routing it over the AIS connection.

    3) Your PPPoE username/password is: Acct # / Acct #

You can also able to get IPv6 working too. (Track Interface)

    Good luck.

  11. Hi,

On a METV visa that expired mid-April.  I went (before most recent order released) to get extension.

I paid 1900 and they gave me extension (30D) starting from 1st May instead of date I was there/visa expires.  So I'm good until end of May.

Now with latest news, I guess July.  Although I do hope airports open for transiting around the world in May.  (Taiwan, Dubai, etc..)

As for requirements on extension, just needed a photo to stick to the application and a photocopy of passport photo page and entry/recent stamp.  Photocopies available behind immigration building in little shophouse.

As some/Ubonjoe mentioned, you should be ok until end of July with recent order that went into effect.
