  1. Two Irishmen walk into a pet shop in Dingle, they walk over to the bird section and Gerry says to Paddy, 'Dat's dem.'

The owner comes over and asks if he can help them.

'Yeah, we'll take four of dem dere little budgies in dat cage up dere,' says Gerry.

The owner puts the budgies in a cardboard box.

Paddy and Gerry pay for the birds, leave the shop and get into Gerry's truck to drive to the top of the Connor Pass.

At the Connor Pass , Gerry looks down at the 1000 foot drop and says, 'Dis looks like a grand place.'

He takes two birds out of the box, puts one on each shoulder and jumps off the cliff.

Paddy watches as the budgies fly off and Gerry falls all the way to the bottom, killing himself stone dead.

Looking down at the remains of his best pal, Paddy shakes his head and says, '<deleted> dat. Dis budgie jumping is too <deleted>'n dangerous for me!'

    THERE'S MORE...

Moment's later; Seamus arrives up at ConnorPass.

He's been to the pet shop too and walks up to the edge of the cliff carrying another cardboard box in one hand and a shotgun in the other.

'Hi, Paddy, watch dis,' Seamus says.

He takes a parrot from the box and lets him fly free.

He then throws himself over the edge of the cliff with the gun.

Paddy watches as half way down, Seamus takes the gun and shoots the parrot.

Seamus continues to plummet down and down until he hits the bottom and breaks every bone in his body.

Paddy shakes his head and says, 'And I'm never trying dat parrotshooting either!'

    IT IS NOT OVER YET...

Paddy is just getting over the shock of losing two friends when Sean appears.

He's also been to the pet shop and is carrying a cardboard box out of which he pulls a chicken.

Sean then takes the chicken by its legs and hurls himself off the cliff and disappears down and down until he hits a rock and breaks his spine.

Once more Paddy shakes his head.

'<deleted> dat, lads. First dere was Gerry with his budgie jumping, den Seamus parrotshooting... And now Sean and his <deleted>'n hengliding!'

  3. What other major city can you travel unlimited on the underground for approx 20GBP (1150thb) for one month???? I know for a fact your gonna be spending AT LEAST 100GBP (5500thb) a month for the same in london!!!!!!!!!

another thing why give them unlimited travel??? i bet some of your people only live a couple of stops from the office and it works out cheaper to just buy the daily rate ticket!!!

i used to travel queen sirikit to lumpini and the 2 tickets per day was 36 baht x 20 working days = 720 baht compared with 1000 baht for the monthly ticket!!! just an observation :)

  6. I have just bought the new nuovo elegance and its a great bike the only thing i dont like are the factory supplied tyres on the mag wheels because they are bloody awful in the wet weather other than that its great and quite good on petrol

With regards to the auto box you see many of the motor bike taxis with them> do you think they would use them if there was a big mechanical problem?

  7. dont know about nong kai dealers................ but i have just bought a new yamaha nuovo click here for piccywith the optional mag wheels... 135cc 4 stroke water cooled..........i got a bit of change out of 54k............ the fino is around the 42 to 45k mark......... but there are many "tuning" extras and special editions for the fino.

  8. If our mate had not had been there he was bahtless with nothing in Koh Tao..

Most UK banks will FedEx a new card out to you anywhere in the world within 24 hours if you're stuck like this.

Alliance Leicester wont, they will only post to your registered UK address and if anyones thee they can send on,.

Same with Barclays. They won't even send statements out here.

And Natwest are the same........... think all the MAIN LAND banks are the same.......... the Isle of Man offshore ones will Fed Ex cards to you though

  9. I have made 4 meetings this week for various things all with thai's ........... have any been on time?......... not one!!! and i dont mean 20 minutes late i mean 3 or 4 hours.......... and they turn up as if nothing is wrong............ then when I have ago at them for wasting my time waiting for them ............ i get the "pud maaaaaaaa " treatment from the g/f.................. can not win :)

So what is the secret to getting a Thai to keep to a meeting time???

    :D

Look I'm not criticising, but you have to understand:

    O

You don't expect them to come to meet you, you go to meet them. WHY?? I AM WANTING THEM TO COME AND DO WORK FOR ME.... IF THEY CANT BE ARSED TO TURN UP FOR MEETINGS THEN THEY CANT BE ARSED TO DO ANY WORK IS MY VIEW

If you want to have a meeting with them call them or their secretary and ask when you can come to their office. Make an appointment time to meet them at their office. Then call again to confirm that meeting before you leave, to be sure they are in the office and available for the meeting when you get there. I HAVE GOT MANY CONTRACTORS/SUPPLIERS SEEING ME ON SITE FROM 8AM TILL 9PM SOME NIGHTS..... GOING TO THERE OFFICE IS IMPRACTICAL

I assume you are trying to sell them some product or service? NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING............ LIKE YOU HAVE HERE. :D ........AND ALL THE WAY THRU YOUR ANSWER........... I AM OFFERING THAIS WORK CONTRACTS FOR THINGS I NEED DOING.... AND THEY CANT BE BOTHERED TO SHOW UP

From the way you talk it sounds as though you are expecting the Thais to come to meet you as a favor. You are giving the impression that you feel you and your concerns are more important than theirs, and you act as though you were summoning them to you. WHY SHOULD I GO TO THEM IF I WANT THEM TO WORK FOR ME??? HAVE YOU EVER HAD A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER COME TO YOUR OFFICE AND INTERVIEW YOU?? IF THEY WANT THE WORK AND ARE KEEN ENOUGH THEY WILL COME TO ME

You won't get very far in business in Thailand with that attitude, because you are telling the Thai, "I am more important than you so you must come and see me." 3 BARS AND 2 NIGHTCLUBS SO FAR........... NOT DOING TOO BADLY SO FAR :D ..... AGAIN I BELIEVE YOU HAVE ASSUMED BECAUSE I HAVE LESS THAN 100 POSTS THAT I AM NEW TO THAILAND............ NOT NEW TO THAILAND........... ONLY TV :D

To a Thai that means they are "losing face" to you. The whole "meeting" thing is poisoned because you are assuming an attitude of superiority before you even meet them. THEY WORK FOR ME SO I AM THE BOSS :D

Type A personality doesn't work in Thailand. Many of the business contacts are cultivated by a long period of contact and mutal respect based on those contacts. WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT :P WHERE IS THE TYPE B PERSONALITY..... DID YOU FORGET TO COPY AND PASTE THAT :P

Social contacts, outside the office, are also important. Don't just barge in and expect to do business. YOUR STILL ASSUMING I AM SELLING THEM SOMETHING.

So if you want to have a meeting with a Thai businessman, you should expect to go to meet him, not the other way around.IF THEY DONT COME TO ME I DONT GIVE THEM CONTRACT....... I AM TOO BUSY TO BE RUNNING AROUND...... AT THE PRESENT TIME IN BANGKOK

If you want to have success in Thailand, get off your European/Farang obcession with "on time", and "quick decisive meetings".

You mau not agree with that, but unless you learn to be more laid back, you won't do well in Thailand... AS SAID BEFORE OWNING 2 NIGHTCLUBS AND 3 BARS I BEG TO DIFFER

    :D

    ANSWERS IN BOLD ABOVE :D

  10. Actually, I find it equally annoying when they turn up early, which also happens sometimes.

It all comes down to respect.

In the West, we respect another person's time, because we respect our own time, and so we make an effort to be on time, and call if we're going to be delayed, and if we're early we walk round the block. (That's how it used to be anyway, I don't know about now).

Many Thais, I gather, don't even have respect for their own time, so it's unlikely they will have respect for ours. But the collision between the Western notion of time as important and worthy of respect and the Thai view of time as unimportant, is always going to cause problems. They think we're "time-obsessed" and we think they're lazy and disrespectful.

A friend of mine would always explain this to late-arriving locals (all over Asia, not just Thailand) by saying: "Time isn't important to you, and you don't care whether things get done on time or not. I do. That's why your country is in still in the sh*tter and mine is rich. Think about it."

He didn't make many friends, but he got things done; the locals learned that here was one guy you made an effort to turn up on time for, if you wanted his business.

bloody hel_l......... you have nearly quoted me word for word on what i told one guy today :) ................ but I finished it off with i don't do late and i don't do wait.

Well to top it all off the meeting I should of had this afternoon turned up to see me at 9pm tonight............ not a care in the world .......... but hey........... its not all bad............ i got a great deal out of him after i managed to get thru to him what i wanted to do and what he was able to offer me.

So the week has finished on a high :D
