  1. I've just booked BKK to London for 7/7. Cheapest I could get was Oman Air at 34000 rtn, but I am not using them. Next cheapest was Qatar Air at 39,000 Baht thats 630 GBP's bloody expensive and with a stopover!!! Direct on Eva was 43,500 over 700 quid! This is for a 6 month ticket. Cheap flights are gone I think.

  2. Thai national graphic designer wanted. Must be able to layout a magazine and be used to using In-Design. English (spoken and written) skills are needed.

    Good basic salary and conditions.

PM me or phone 038 406519 for details and an interview.

  3. I have been informed you are allowed to transfer money out of Thailand as family support. Anyone done this? I have been told it is limited to a maximum 10,000 US, but you can do it regularly. Someone else told me BKK Bank told them they could transfer 600,000 Baht out as family support.

Anyone done this or know about it?

  4. Hello I may be moving to Ban Chang, Rayong. I'm an avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast. I am wondering what the roads are like there, are there lots of places to bike, is commuting around the city centers easily done? What is the area of Ban Chang like? Is there work available in outdoor education or bike touring? I am also interested in studying massage therapy and natural medicine, are there any places in Rayong or Pattaya to look into? Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!

Try posting in the Eastern Thailand forum.

  5. You could go to Vietnam and have a Civil Partnership (gay marriage) at the British Embassy there but its not recognized in Thailand. Your government wouldnt allow the British Embassy in Thailand to perform the ceremony! Thats something gay Thais should be fighting for but thats another topic.

If he wants to stay here then, as has been said already, its the visa and work permit route which is difficult if he wants to work and hasnt got a degree and I wouldnt recommend if he hasnt. You could also apply for a visa to the UK to have the CP there, a CP visa valid for 6 months. The benefits for the CP is that you would get his pension and any inheritance when he dies, which is the main reason for having the CP.

    Good Luck

Chrischonburi sounds like you know a little about visas to the UK? I am going through this process at the moment with my Lao bf. We will be applying for a tourist/marriage visa. This is a tourist visa that allows you to also get married or have a CP. HOwever you have to stipulate before hand the date of the marriage/CP ceremony and as I am in Thailand that is a bit of a problem. Any idea's?

  6. Thanks for that. Thats a good price. I've been quoted 42,000 - 45,000 with Arab airlines with stopovers!!!

    42,000 - 45,000 A good price??

Only a couple of weeks ago people were getting Qatar Airways flights for 25,000 and as a result there is little availability with them, I fear that the days of reasonably priced flights have gone forever.

Quoted today Qatar into LGW 39500 RTN or Oman Air 34,000 inc of taxes, but Oman have a 5.5 hour stopover which isn't appealing. Qatar is best on stopover and a few 1000 Baht more on airfare.

  7. hi,

saturday afternoon i managed to book return to lhr on eva air (direct) 40,500 baht plus 3.5% for payment with visa card. coach class/ open 6 months.

company name thaioverlander 022584778 in bkk. on the phone it can be alittle hard work, ok english spoken but have been in the shop before and good service.

try the thai visa agency found them good too.

Thanks for that. Thats a good price. I've been quoted 42,000 - 45,000 with Arab airlines with stopovers!!!

  8. my advice go there..... let them figure out you problem, but DON'T buy any spare parts with them. :o

Yes, unfortunately one must be careful about parts at Pattaya2you. They tried to overcharge me by B200 for a stick of RAM the other day. I told the guy the fair market price from the other shops in the area but just got a shake of his head. So I bought that and B6000 of other upgrade parts from Hardware House and Jib.

    Stupid.

As for Richard Bunch, I think he sold up and left years ago.

Richard Brunch is certainly still in Pattaya and building websites. Not sure about computer repairs? He is located in the Pattaya Today building on Suhkumvit Road and has a busines called IT Solutions.

I can also recommend the disabled guy from DCO, he has built several pc's for my company to my spec.

  9. Ditto Pattaya 2 u

I would give liberty a miss as a mates laptop got a lot of liberty after 3 months of not being repaired........ if got nicked from the place and he was given a very nasty brush off by the pillow bitting farang there.

Don't be a <deleted>! What has the guys sexual persuasion got to to with anything?

  10. Hi Guys,

Thanks for your support, as I've been trying to tell "The Bounder" qualifications really mean bugger all in Thailand/Pattaya, previous experince & happy clients means more than anything

But then again maybe "The Bounder" cannot read!!!!

So finally there we have it, no professional qualifications and can't state what standards he works too.

    Buyer beware.

Erm, Paul1970, not sure where dickie58 says he has no qualifications. He says they are worthless in Thailand thats all. You are reading something into the post that isn't there.

  11. The above is a very good point. From the website it shows a nice house built on Pratumnak but I think it belongs to the Company owner.Personnally I'd be worried if not seeing a proven track record by a Building Supervisor. There are some very good building Companies in Thailand and unfortunately some very bad ones. Not saying the Company mentioned is good or bad, just saying check out well any builder you choose to use.

    EPG.

Thanks EPG for your comments, the house in Phratmanak is mine, but you can see what I am doing at present by clicking on the current projects menu of my web site.

Your right there is good & bad builders in Thailand & every country worldwide, as i offer a subervision service I am very careful who i work with.

2 of the builders i use 1 farang, 1 Thai, have & are doing some construction/renovations for some very up market comercial hotels, & resdential housing projects in & around Ptty & the eastern seeboard

I do not feel i need to answer anyone on this forum regarding my qualifications, when quite frankly they have no intention whatsoever of hiring me or my service, the customer sets the standards & finishes are required when building or renovating a project, I ensure that this is met on behalf of the client, all my tradesman Thai or Farang, electrician are electricians not labours, plumbers are again plumbers, not gardners!!!

I have just finished a new house build in North Pattaya, i ran the project managment from start to finish, archtectural design introduction & builder introductions, the client chose what builder he wanted to use out of the ones i introduced & did costings, the client was extremly happy for what i have done for them over the last 6 months & were very grateful for everything when i finished yesterday.

I am also happy to work with clients own builders, but they must meet my critera, & I determine this buy looking at there previous work & speaking to previous clients

I suggest anybody who wants to see some of my previous work, contact me direct.

Although some people are suggesting I am a cowboy this is TOTALLY UNJUSTIFIED, I can quite assure you I AM NOT, all my clients past & present have all been very grateful in the way i have helped them, i don't just take money & run I give a lot of advise for FREE, if they then hire my project managment service when the project starts they then pay me for my service.

I was recently speaking (via email) to a local firm of expat owned builders, saying I had seen there work & it was very good & would he be intrested in us working together, his reply was "I don't work with independent project managers on the clients side", the question has to be "WHY", i asked this but never got a reply, he never met me so could not coment on what i had to offer?

It's interesting that you use the word "cowboy". I certainly didn't, but out of interest I looked up the definition on google when used with respect to building. It refers to someone who is unscrupulous and unqualified in the business. So, if you are not a cowboy, once again, please let us know what you professional qualifications are?

Get off your high horse bounder. Qualifications mean shit all in this country. Its all about experience in my book. If I were to employ a construction management company I would look at their previous work not at what qualifications he had. The same principle is used when I employ staff at my company. I don't ask them for their useless university degrees, I ask them who they have worked for before and what they did there. I go for experience not qualifications.

  12. I have also been conned at this station. I noticed what they were doing and other staff members tried to cover up the display by blocking my view. However I caught them and challenged them. They appologised to me saying "sorry, mistake" and charged me the correct amount which wasn't displayed on the pump. I have never been here again to buy fuel, just use the free air to pump up my tyres!

  13. Thanks Sheryl for your detailed reply.

Well after a long think I eventually turned up at the Chonburi Cancer Centre today and started my 3rd session. I received a phone call from my mother telling me her "gut feeling" was I shouldn't stop and my partner informing of the same! I know ultimately it is not their decision but mine. I'm going to see how this session goes and take other advice as suggested above.

Your comments about support are very pertinent regards Thailand. There isn't any basically!!! I am at a government hospital as my insurance won't cover me for chemo. Any private hospital I guess maybe better, but they'll only be thinking of the money (my personal experience) and will support you at a cost, and not maybe in the best way either.

  14. I rented in 9 Karot Condo for 18 months. No noise day or night. Sometimes a little noise at night with weekenders down from Bangkok in the swimming pool, but that finishes by 10pm.

I also had sea views from my 8th floor condo. You can buy single studios in there for about 1M Baht renovated. It is not the best looking place, but I was happy there. Nice clean swimming pool, small gym and snooker/table tennis tables.

9 Karot is in central Pattaya off 3rd road.

  15. And, of course, regardless of what you do regarding chemo, regular check-ups including colonoscopy are a must, so that any recurrence is more likely to be caught early on.

Interesting point as another Oncologist I went to see said I didn't need to have another colonoscopy now, even though I thought I ought to 6 months after the operation? He said have a PET Scan one year after finishing Chemo. That is all you need, no further colonosopies.

    Right or wrong?

  16. I'm not sure what I should do.

I had colon cancer and had a tumor removed last November. It was staged a stage 2B, low risk. I was advised by an Oncologist at Chonburi Cancer centre that I didn't need Chemo. I decided for peace of mind that I should have it.

I have had 2 cycles and last month felt very sick and tired. So I've been considering stopping it so I can have a quality of life back. Today I tell the doctor of my thought and why I think I should stop. He says, "I explained to you the side effects and you said you still wanted to go ahead. Why you change now? It is not good to stop as these problems are in your head. I give this treatment to 80 year olds and they are fine. If you stop and then you have a reoccurance later you will not forgive yourself for stopping".

OK, I accept his argument. However can anyone tell me if physically there is a problem stopping Chemo after just 2 cycles, and would there be a problem in restarting later should it come back in 1,2 5 years?

Any advice personal experiences are welcomed.

  17. Almost none of the overhead street lights are working now, the tourist police

volunteers, who used to maintain a minimal prescense are completely absent

Ladymen and transients are massing in the shadows accosting anyone who

tries to walk down the path. For a beach resort, this is a pretty sad state.

Thanks for the report Cali...now that all's back to normal on Beach Road I think I will head on down there for a stroll again sometime soon. It was getting so sterile and respectable down there that I stopped going...but seems all is well again.

Everything you condemn is just a little local colour and what Pattaya is all about!

What an absolutely stupid post. Pattaya should NOT be all about drug dealers, ladyboy robbers and other low life's. If you believe it is then that says more about you than it does about Pattaya.
