  1. How can acts of corruption be proven before a court verdict is delivered? :o

His most blatant act of corruption and the straw that broke the back of public opinion was not even illegal. He merely changed tax laws a couple of weeks prior to selling a portion of Thailand's telecom industry to Singapore and thus walked away with 70 billion Baht tax free. Nothing needs to be proven.

NO NO NO he did not, just like he did not change the law when he owned some of Air Asia, so this is the only foreign owned airline who can fly domestic, obviously almost doubling the price of shares.

Just like he did not change the communication laws regarding inter-connect charges, nor he hide his assets with his driver and maid before his election

  2. Reports seem to say that locals who stood up to the red shirts were ignored by the police.

How can the police/army defend the locals? They only have paper bullets, as they said themselves.

I'm sure if the situation calls for it (i hope it does not happen) the soldiers will change their mags to the one with live bullets in it.

  3. To people who do not care about sides and live in Thailand! Just think how great our life will be here shortly when the baht will crash, so will Thai economy, so not only we will be able to pick up condo's very cheap but also a few girls very cheap. With virtually no tourism, think of the choice all men will have!

You really have a one track mind don't you kuffki ? :o

  4. Now they broke into a bank, acc to the Nation. At least broke the glass doors.

Looks like a full blown red revolution - taking over the banks, shooting disagreeable locals.

Sparked by a military coup, a subsequent judicial coup and a paramilitary blockade of airports and government buildings.

What did you honestly think was going to happen? The disenfranchised as a result of the aforementioned actions were just going to lie down and take it?

    Cause and effect.

There is no revolution, just thaksins slaves bent on causing as much destruction possible. You yap on about social injustice but in truth the reds rebuff all advances for true and meaningful change, they just want destruction. UDD was born to fight PAD and now that PAD is gone they can't stop and started to fight thailand

  5. Well well.

You are sure quick to fire when you don't see the enemy, right?

Now i, for once, was present when the DEM guys came offering 200 Baht for every vote. No hear-say, i was right there, live, seen it with my very own eyes, and my girlfriend's uncle accepted the dosh. Fact.

Regarding PAD vs. Red, sure both are rent-a-mob but at least UDD wasn't violent from day one (They did not even enter Government Housr or capture airports). Also there it wasn't the crowd that turned violent in the later stages but their "poor citizens". Well, after a few shots had been fired against them by the army, what would you expect? Now who exactly launched grenades at the Red's? Army. Correct. Then that's the reason why they are violent.

Red mobs didn't kill anyone, while they had several killed by the PAD. Fact. The one idiot who ran over cops with a pickup was a PAD member, and everyone knew it. Even if he did not wear a yellow shirt!

By the way i am not saying (nor have i ever said) that Mark came to power was dodgy. However pretty much everything that came after it WAS. Dem's program initially was well thought out, but as soon as Mark had the power he did everything to make sure nobody else would ever get a slice of the cake again. Key power positions were given to PAD (Kasit for example), and Newin allies, etc; to further strengthen his power grip and to fill his bank accounts and once all that was in place, the rampant vote-buying started (2,000 Baht to buy 10 million vote each).

Isn't it funny that everything the red did is wrong, and what the yellow did is right.

THAT is why i want this to end quickly, before whole Bangkok goes up in flames (- what's next, take the airports??) The red wouldn't have done this, the reds do.

    Wake up, see the truth.

First of al the PAD was peacefull from day 1, it's only later that there were violent clashes with PAD supporters. Remember PAD formed when Thaksin was still in power back in 2006, they dissolved after the coup and only came back near the end of the samark government.

The UDD was created after the coup and it's primary function at that time was to fight PAD, the violence with PAD supporters started with sporadic fights between UDD and PAD and later escalated to fights with government units.

Could you please provide a link to a news story about the launching of grenades into the red shirts, as i have not read that anywhere.

True that the reds have not killed anyone yet during this round of violence, but neither has the government. They have openly incited their supporters to harm Abhisit and attack the government.

Abhisit came to power through legal means, but he did have to concede key positions to newin's group in order for them to join the dems. This is not any different to what thaksin did during his reign, so you can't really blame abhisit, blame thai politics for allowing it to happen.

Yellow did wrong and red did wrong, personally i think yesterday red on balance did more wrong than PAD ever did. PAD while being thugs in their own right did atleast try too keep it together and did not start all out riots in the streets of bangkok.

The truth is that both sides are wrong and thai politics is strange, i just hope the reds can stop to see that they have gone way beyond what their enemy has ever done and stop their dangerous course of action before the point of no return has been reached

  6. And I must also note the alarming level of blood thirst coming from some members in this forum who have been openly calling since yesterday for the military to mow down the RED protesters with machine guns is disgusting. You know who you are.

I have never been to other ASEAN countries where people who hate the other sides demonstrations wished for them to be gunned down. But hey maybe this is the Thai way and the foreigners also support the Thai way of dealing with dissent. So let's get the Thai way under way then!

Guess you haven't been to vietnam, phillipines, cambodia, burma and laos then. Keep in mind these are not demonstrations, demonstrations are peaceful and mostly contained. The red shirts are insurgents openly fighting the government, while noboday really wants anyone really shot, as a government at a certain point you have to use proportionate force which the thai's have done, they shoot in the air, pop off a few tear gass canisters and generally subdue the insurgents. The police had their chance and they failed to act, that's why the army had to step in.

  7. Honestly, do you have any idea the logistical nightmare it is the change a venue for a high level summit with 12 hours notice? It just can't be done, these things take months to plan and prepare.

just on this point... he did have months to prepare.

any body who knows anything would have known the reds would emulate the yellows tactics.

ASEAN summit was the perfect time and place, reds thought so, why didnt Abhisit anticipate it ?

good leaders are not reactionary, they anticipate and have plan B

this could and should have been anticipated, and prevented. Abhisit didnt have plan B, he had nothing, except his.... 'assurances'

Ok so we can agree that abhisit was foolish to not double the amount of security and order the police to use force to disperse the red mob at the earliest hint of aggression.

If thaksin comes back like the UDD wants isn't it shameful as well that the person behind the attack on the ASEAN is now in power? The next time thaksin sees wen jibao (sp?) does he go like: "hi, i'm the guy that ordered the attack on you while you were in pattaya, how ya doing?" ? i mean how does that look for thailand? Pretty shameful in my eyes

  8. The main thing to concentrate on now going forward is the fact that the PM disgraced the country by saying the ASEAN Summit could go ahead and it was a test of his ability to control............

That is going to haunt him forever.

I for one wont forget his tight lipped smile, and nervous reassurance.

who is going to take him seriously now ?

security was his responsibility not Newins,

newin is an ass kissing incompetent bungling fool

Both you and LH keep saying that it's a shame for thailand and abhisit for what happened in pattaya. Does that mean you both agree that the army should have put down the red protesters before they were able to influence the ASEAN? You can't call invading the ASEAN and victory and a shame, since to avoid the latter you cannot have the former. So which is it ?

I believe it was a shame for thailand, IMHO the reds should have been put down when they threatend to stop the summit.

Abhisit should have changed the location

or conceeded some of the demands of the reds

or prevented in some other way without bloodshed.

he failed and embarrassed the nation.

where was plan B ? where was his foresight ?

Honestly, do you have any idea the logistical nightmare it is the change a venue for a high level summit with 12 hours notice? It just can't be done, these things take months to plan and prepare.

why would he concede to the demands of a bunch of protesters ? Even if he did, you can't very well dissolve the government in the middle of a high level inter-governmental meeting you are hosting.

The reds attacked the ASEAN and the government did nothing, they did this to prevent blood shed.

The reds choose to attack the ASEAN summit, they forced the cancellation, they instigated the violence, this whole sistuation is of the UDD's choosing not of the government. The UDD wanted to shame abhisit which they succeded doing but they shamed them selves in the proccess. After you shamed abhisit, why did the UDD not stop? Was is because the government was tough on your leader by arresting him? isn't that what you wanted? a though acting government?

The UDD commentator talks about selective policing because the UDD leaders where arrested so quick and the PAD did not. PPP was incharge for a whole year 3 months of which government house was occupied, if anything they were soft, blame them for not prosecuting.

Abhisit handled too soft at the ASEAN but he learned quickly and gave into 1 of your demands, tough security measures and there has been no more shame on his government since.

  10. There are approx 60 000 expats living in Thailand, how about we all get together and go topless. We will demonstrating for farang rights, no police extortion, cheaper prices for girls, better exchange rate, and what ever else people can contribute!

    ANYONE WANT TO JOIN? :o

ROFL, i think 60,00 topless expats would constitute some kind of crime against humanity

Opposition party wants urgent House meeting

    By The Nation

The opposition Pheu Thai Party on Monday demanded that the government stop using force to crack down on the red-shirt protesters and instead convene an emergency House session to settle the ongoing political conflicts.

Pheu Thai leaders, including opposition chief whip Withaya Buranasiri and Deputy House Speaker Apiwan Wiriyachai, led party MPs in a press conference. The politicians had met to discuss the situation following clashes between security officials and protesters early in the morning.

The opposition party issued the following five-point demand:

    1. The government must stop using force and violence against people.

    2. A joint Parliament meeting must be convened urgently to find a way out of the country's deepening division.

    3. Should the government ignore the two above demands, the Pheu Thai Party will mobilise more protesters into Bangkok.

    4. The media must present neutral coverage as biased reports are dangerous. The party cannot accept the government's muzzling of information. It demands that the government allow the public to get two sides of the story.

    5. Thais across the country, no matter what political colour they belong, must resort to peaceful solutions.

    3. Should the government ignore the two above demands, the Pheu Thai Party will mobilise more protesters into Bangkok.

Pretty much definite proof that PTP is linked to the reds and now openly supports the insurgent forces in bangkok.

i find it soo funny that the reds shirts keep trying to dig their way out of a hole. In their thirst for power they have become the worst thing to ever happen to thailand in recent history.

    The reds have

    1. Openly said that they will harm the PM

    2. Harmed the PM

    3. Threatend to blow up the democrats HQ

    4. Attacked members of the armed forces

    5. Vandalized public property

6 Threatend to blow up 2 LPG trucks in residential neighbourhoods

    Go reds ! what's next ?

  12. After the tsunami, the average BKK property price drop was 0%. After the removal of Thaksin, the average BKK property price drop was 0%. After the yellow shirt demonstration, the average BKK property price drop was 0%. After the red shirt protest, I predict that the the average BKK property price drop will be twice as much.

Would this possibly only pertain to your condo which you are trying to sell. I.e what ever happens you don't drop the selling price

  13. Who's Embassy will be first to start emergency evacuations?

And would we still be able to buy duty free?

I could do with a free flight

    Dutch 75-1

  14. UN refers to Thai police as the biggest organized criminal gang on the planet.

    Where was this?

    google is your friend :o

My friend seems to be telling me that this fact is actually an inference somebody has drawn on their blog.

Ofcourse it's an inference on some blog, like the UN would ever publish anything with that kind of inflammatory language :D

  15. i think fresh elections will put an immediate end to the chaos. the reds, have pretty much had their say, so have the yellows, I think that is the two main pressure groups of Thailand, now its time for the people to have their say.

Abhisits puppet masters .... are the stubbon ones, who don't give a fukc about this country.

the army will never be able to control the reds, they will mushroom up from all parts of the country and conduct gurillea style civil disobedience.

some of their brothers have been killed, many are injured.

The quicker fresh elections are held.... the better

Maybe elections will put an end to this for now but not for long

There 2 problems though, 1st is the fact that UDD is just a front for thaksin and they will not accept anything else than the complete reinstatement of the 2006 TRT government. 2nd UDD is an insurgent force, giving in to any of their demands set a precedent of the government giving in to terrorist demands.

The reds are to blame for all the current violence so any blood will be on their hands.

  16. Logic response ... ( you cannot argue with common sense )

..... The Red shirts have shown complete disrespect for the law and therefore should be held accountable.

You can have a peacefull protest to get your point accross... but they had no intention of a peacefull protest ....

I was watching Aljazara TV this morning and the head huncho was just making excuse after excuse when asked why the government car was attacked ... why was the government building siezed .... he said the protesters were enraged ... Well if they are so enraged why not go home and tip a cold bucket of water over there heads to cool down....

These guys are breaking the law .. they deserve the punishment...good on the army for taking action against these protesters.

Also, I blame Taksin as part of the problem as he is enticing them to cause mayhem and revolt... he should be extradited and charged accordingly... Thats what happens in a democratic society...

    IMO.. :o

    Well said

  17. I don't think thaksin will agree to those terms

personally i would want thaksin to serve his jail time, he committed a crime and the fled the country while on trial.

Thaksin should always be banned from politics (a felony conviction will do that)

Using thaksins frozen money to pay for the damages is a good idea, i doubt there will be any left for him after all is said and done.

I definately agree with monitored elections, it's sad that it has to come to that but it really is necessary. Question is can the UDD accept the results if thaksin is not chosen and can PAD accept the results when he is (by proxy)?

  18. Waerth, I'll back you up. I have a lot of police friends. They are often on the losing end when it comes to confrontations. However, I disagree that they don't have sympathies. During the yellow protests many police were beaten. No arrests were made... Thai police... like police would elsewhere in the world... do not like to be trounced and the perpetrators let off. Police were openly joining the demonstration last night... it's a wonder they didn't join sooner.

Can they still be called police if they join in with an insurrection? I always thought that treason by a government official was the worst possible crime that can be committed in a country. So if you commit treason you are automatically stripped of your governmental function, it's not like you really want it anyway since you are against the government.

  19. I never said why they had the tanker there, I am just pointing out the law regarding what is considered a weapon, I am not condoning it, I just wish people knew what they are talking about when referring to legal issues, especially when they finish their pot with 'duh' or 'sheesh'.

Yoou are techincally correct redscouse in that the tanker is not a weapon untill the intent is there to use it as such. However in the context of this specific instance, that intent has been made clear.

Protesters seized a cooking gas tank and placed it in front of the Din Daeng flats and threatened to blow it if the troops advance to disperse them.

They also released some gas as warning.

Some residents of the flats have moved out for fear of fire and explosion.

    The Nation

Clearly the red insurgents have shown intent to use the LPG truck as a bomb and thus making truck a weapon.

  20. I just came of the phone with a police friend of mine as I was getting pissed of with the police doing nothing. He is a very nice guy and he speaks perfect English and he is a Colonel.

He explained that it was very simple. Even if a government, any government would order them to go in, they wouldn't do it. Not because they like the protesters. But because of the law.

He said the last few times the police did anything towards any protesters the commanding officers found themselves in front of criminal court and were disgracefully dismissed from service. He said no sane police officer would have themselves disgraced anymore for following orders from any government being red, yellow, blue. As they would always betray them afterwards by letting the police officers take the fall for the failure of the government.

He said he is personally itching to put down the riots. Willing to be wounded in the process. But he isn't willing to be disgraced for doing his duty and following orders. He said that the majority of the police officers is feeling that way.

The problem is with the law according to him. There are laws protecting protesters rights. There are no laws that protect a police officer from acting against protesters even when under orders from the government. The police officers are by law responsible for any wounded from their actions. Even when ordered. and that is why they will not do anything.

    W

Thank you WAERTH, that was a very informative post.

  21. by now with the LPG trucks in any normal country, the army would get the order to shoot at sight to prevent hundreds or thousands of deads, that's a terrorist attack.

Its not a terrorist attack until the REDS blow up a LPG truck. Simply driving or parking an LPG truck no matter how stupid, or dangerous it is does not make it a terrorist act.

Don't get me wrong I think its foolish and they should be stopped, but until they use the trucks as an explosion its not "terrorsit"...

You can not possibly be serious!!! Using your "logic" I guess it's ok to take bombs on aircraft, because it's not a terrorist act until the bombs goes off... DUH! :o

quiet right BigBike. It goes even further than that, according to this acticle in the nation:

Protesters seized a cooking gas tank and placed it in front of the Din Daeng flats and threatened to blow it if the troops advance to disperse them.

They also released some gas as warning.

Some residents of the flats have moved out for fear of fire and explosion.

    The Nation

The insurgents are actually threating to blow it up and have released gas to prove that they are serious. That pretty much shows intent doesn't it?
