Perhaps the airline could provide him some kind of proof of what date he entered the country.

Best idea, UJ. If he has his confirmation code or ticket number it will be easy, for the airline. Even without, just be polite. We're dealing with fellow human beings near every day. Many that haven't had the generations of experience that we guests have had.

Like I've often said, I turn to the tourist police about even small things. Once they get past laughing over my efforts to be polite and speak whatever language comes to me at the time, They then, always help.

I was previously married to a Thai Lady, now in a relationship with a Khmer lady. Both came from poor backgrounds and had no problems with foreign food, other than the odd item. I put that down to them remembering the days when they had little or nothing to eat.

Personally I'm surprised that so many Thais are fussy when it comes to foreign food, but from a purely personal point of view, younger Thais are nothing like their counterparts of 25 years plus ago. One of the reasons why I chose to leave Thailand rather than stay and whinge.

Just don't engage in it. Plain and simple. You never have to answer anything you don't want to and you never have to expose any part of yourself or personal life that you don't wan to. Simple. I agree with you that Thai people seemed really into gossip and invading others privacy..... But that does not mean you have to. Just don't engage. So simple.

Gossip and rumours are collective culture in all cultures, nothing is as unbelievable as facts. Sometimes they get boring, but it only needs one incentive to get them started again. Some recent topics in this forum are a good example.

I've had things notarized there that had nothing to do with retirement income.
