  1. 'Every morning I drive to work and I feel like I am navigating through a circus, honestly'

    I concur!

A study over recent years indicates and confirms the way a society conducts themselves and behaves socially in general thinking is a direct indication on how they behave and act on the roads.

Study further. Or give your source, not that it will be true even if you have one.

  2. last i heard, which was several years ago, on a tourist visa(s) you were allowed only

90 days out of the last 180 days.  this is a "running" 180 days.. ie, from today back

for 180 days. if your next tourist visa will be more than those 90 days of the last

180 days, you will have to leave the kingdom until your eligibility (more than 180

    days) returns.

this means that out of the last 180 days you can only be in the kingdom on a tourist

visa no more than 90 days.  half of the time must be spent outside the kingdom.

perhaps the dreaded red stamp is to alert you and/or the consulate the next time

you apply that your 90 day of 180 days is in question and deserves a closer look.

if this is the case, when you get more days you can return the kingdom again, no

fault... however, you won't be allowed to run over 90 days in a 180 day period.

that is what it used to be. i haven't heard of any change but there might have been.

    bubba

It hasn't changed. I was under the impression it was not strictly enforced. In the USA that I'm from, we hire lawyers.

  3. I relocated to Thailand some 3 years ago, having met my g/f in Australia some 15 years ago,we lived in Aus for the entire 15 years,She mentioned that when i retire why not move to Thailand and live,so we did this,i had read many times about Farang being ripped off by Thai females, however as i had been in this relationship for so long,i felt different?

She had told me many times before we made the move that as it was going to be ALL my monies to purchase a house,Furniture vehicle etc, that if we ever did separate she would not ask for any monies? well we have separated after 3 years, however she does not remember making this statement.

I have all receipts of deposit, and final payments for the house here. Also for furniture.

The house Chanote is in her name, she is asking for a 50/50 share of the house sale

I have been speaking to a few Farang friends here who have advised me that if i have all the receipts for the house etc,if i was to go to a lawyer,i would not be required to give her 50% I mentioned to them about the Chanote, they said no problems? i am not so sure.

Hopefully some kind members can advise me how i stand.

    Many thanks.

Lucky she only wants 50% seems like a reasonably decent lady to me.

Sent from my ST27a using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Yes, more than him, by far. 15 years of who knows. Then second chance for 3 in Thailand.

Pay up and say thank you for everything, especially your youth.

Good luck with your lives, both of you.

  4. This could potentially be a really interesting topic. There have been many similar debates about this in the UK (and probably elsewhere). However, this topic will probably go the way of Thai-bashing and then closure. Let's try and keep it sensible as I'm actually quite interested in this...

Yes. You can't make any general statement about it with such no information. If it were concern of mine. I would go to the Police and ask there. It will be the Police you're having to deal with. If it is over stuff, good luck. If it is clear to authorities it was life or death, you have small chance. The many Thai I know. All of them know, it is wrong to kill. Hurt people or steal.

  5. Girls are girls the world over - it does not really matter what their profession might be.

Some can 'imprint' like a baby duck on a pair of farmers wellies - especially if they've been badly treated in the past and meet a genuine nice guy.

    <snip>

Hmm, sounds to me like she still hasn't met a genuine nice guy.

You are correct. There is not one nice thing shown here about this male of the specious. It is downer for entire male gender.

Move your things out, mister. Then go back to whatever Country your predator behavior is allowed. ex pats like you are flaw on any society you take part in.

  6. it was greed by the farmers who sold out the rice for a premium payment...they chose to join the rice pledge..

they could have sold it at the going rate locally...but greed got the better of them..

i think you had to have over 100 rai to join the pledge...so they are not poor farmers...

poor farmers i class as having only a few rai and making around. 60000 a year not 500000 a year...

In my experience the BAAC agents offered the guaranteed government kg rate to farmers with less than 100 rai

Need, not greed. 100 rai doesn't clear your head out. It you're working the farm or having it worked. This is serious issue of how the world can malfunction.

Then lands on the lives of the little ones. Those with no malice, little sophistication. Please, Buddha consciousness, have mercy. Not superstition, mercy.

  7. Remarkably satisfying. Seeing these <snip> that swallowed every lie from the PTP, and were quite happy to trouser honest people's tax money to sell rice at rip-off prices get their come-uppance. Serves you lot right! Just remember the damage runs far deeper than your problems this year over non-payment as the reputation of Thai rice is shot, and will take at least a generation to recover. You will pay dearly for your greed and ignorance, now suck it up and quit whining.

Change your member sign.We see what you're sucking up. Might make you more creditable with the adult group.

These are intelligent but mostly poor uneducated people. There doesn't seem to be any clear, or rational, leadership. Postured adults that all the people involved can look to for guidance and resolution. Greater minds and hearts than anybody posting here.

  8. If the GF is listening to and taking advice from the 3rd party (cousin in Europe), then it is a really good time to find out about it. If she doesn't love and respect you for who you are, then you are looking at a rough road ahead if you plan to continue.

As for meeting the parents, be yourself! The same advice applies to that above; if the GF takes the advice from the parents over what her heart says, then there is something wrong with the relationship before you start. She is in her late 20's and not in her teens.

I know this will rub some people up the wrong way with the 'This is Thailand, things are done differently here' argument. (Late 20's is deemed to be close to the sell-by' date) Yes, this is true, but it is also the 21st century and attitudes are changing all the time.

And why is she not wed already if a good catch.........whistling.gif Could be million good reasons. First one, she hasn't met the person to hold her interest.

  9. No, a Non-Imm visa is not easy for the sponsor to cancel. If immigration can't contact you first and call you in for an interview, they won't cancel it. Take it easy and ignore her.

Alright that's a bit of a relief, thanks. What do you mean with ''sponsor''? The thai company where I am doing the internship at?

So it is by immigration protocol and law to call me in for an interview before they can do anything? So if they can't contact me, nothing will happen, is that correct?

If so, then I am very relieved. However, my now ex GF might give them my thai number or adress of where I am staying at the moment... WIll they come to my adress to confine/arrest me? and take me to immigration office or am I thinking too much now? Is it even realistic of what I am thinking now or is it not very strict in Thailand with such things?

You're breaking the law? You make your mind up about how serious your situation is. Though threats don't usually have much value.

  10. Here's what I do:

I apply for a multiple entry "Retirement visa" (non O) in Australia. I have to get medical check, police check, bank statement, etc,

but it is all straight forward.

The one problem is that I have to take my papers to a local lawyer and get them certified (this costs about $250).

The big advantage is that I don't have to put money in a Thai bank.

This gives me two years in Thailand, if I exit just once (each time I enter I get another 12 months).

This method is perfect. However, the police check, won't fly for all.

  11. David, it's a cross some of us have to bear unfortunately. thumbsup.gif

Yes, Dad said, you will have to learn to live with it. You will have other challenges. More than two. Gal told me once it took her over year to talk with me. Though her reason was about money. Though, her Father was high roller. People's actions are often unknown and all we get it cover story. Their's or ours.

  12. Firstly, I agree with what some are saying about percentage tipping in Thailand. Tipping 150b to a pizza delivery driver is just... nuts!! Over the years I have watched the delivery charge go from 20b (already pushing it coz it should be free really especially considering how overpriced pizzas are to start with compared with other food in Thailand), to 30b (starting to get silly), and now recently it has increased to 40b which is quite franky ridiculous.

Anyone who compares prices or tipping to the US or any other western culture is missing the point. Thailand is not a tipping culture, and people who over tip are not repsected by Thai people, in fact as others have stated, it just makes us look like mugs. And when people start to *expect tips* without increasing the level of service accordingly, and the tippees start jointly deciding amongst themselves what constitutes and *acceptable or mandatory* tip then we find ourselves in a situation like the USA is in now. A very slippery slope. Mr "Not in Kansas Anymore" please stop it because ultimately you're just urinating in the water supply.

Returning to topic, I order 1112, 1150, 1711 etc WAY less now than before thanks to the ridiculous charges, which helps my wallet and my health no doubt. However when I do, I do always tip the driver but the amount is less now on average due to the new charges. And usually it is whatever coins are left in relation to the bill, and certainly never more than 20!

best of luck with your health and your wallet....................things change. when we do, then we really notice. change is good. one can clearly see those who never had to live and support themselves and families from tips. fact is, we don't have any consistent clue on what management does with any money add on to our charges. if you can't afford it, try doing without. that works without hiding behind any culture story. I've yet to meet one person anywhere on Earth that hasn't turned profit from, doing without. it is a virtue. cultures change, grow and advance, people, places and things. not one thing in your post brushes near anything but what is about you. boring person, with narrow mind. closed to any new thought. are you the water supply? if so, agree, there is already enough urine.

  13. Good luck with the search.

My sister went missing for 1 year and during that time my parents assumed she was dead or abducted.

When she finally re-surfaced my parents didn't know how to react.

So yeah, some people don't want to be found, but for those left behind you assume the worst

People that do that should be shot for pissing off all the innocent people.

innocent people would not take that frame of mind. if they did that is good reason person vanished.

  14. A Will is a public document that anyone can access from the relevant registration office

I am disappointed by the 'Thai wife' and 'kid' comments already expressed that seem to be treating the widow and child as second class citizens whose entitlement should be in some way diminished

Wills can be very complicated documents but,at least in this case, there appears to be a Will

The widow would do well to enquire of all the relevant agencies whether she is entitled to any widow's benefits or pensions as a result of her husband's death. In the UK my Thai wife would be entitled to 50% of my retirement pension and 50% of my occupational pension.

I cannot comment with any authority regarding her legal position in the US but I cannot imagine that the rules are so very different to those that pertain in the UK. A good lawyer should be able to ensure that the widow receives her full entitlement under the law regardless of any objections by other members of his, in all probability, extended family

The marriage lasted for a good length of time and the couple had a child together. I can see no reason why they should not receive the bulk of the deceased's estate. Good luck to them both. Be strong

State law, social security law, veterans law, in USA speaks very clear to all these matters. In any of the 50 states, a will does not negate, state or federal law.

I prepared a packet for my Mrs. to take to, U.S. Embassy or any groups that might represent U.S. ex-pats. in Thailand. -Condolances.
